    There is an Enhanced Risk for severe weather today and tomorrow, from the Great Plains into parts of the Midwest. Damaging winds (potentially 75 mph or greater), large hail (potentially 2" diameter or greater), and tornadoes will be possible both days. Make sure to have multiple ways to receive severe weather watches and warnings over the next couple of days!

    Two power outages in three days for me in central Louisiana. No sunshine during either but it wasn`t very hot so I was able to run my small air conditioner from my emergency solar battery storage and stay cool without using the gas generator but I was getting worried yesterday because the power was out for a long time. For some reason my line was the last one without service (AGAIN!) and they had to send a truck late yesterday evening to figure it out whatever it was. Oddly enough the truck arrived as soon as I got off the phone even though I`m way out in the boondocks.

      I remember we had a derecho last June.. We seen the lowering of a cloud and it looked like a UFO! We hightailed it out of the area. Luckily no tornado was ever spotted!

    Day 2 outlook updated. It is still an Enhanced Risk, but it has shrunk down, now only including parts of southwest Kansas and northwest Oklahoma. Still driven by hail. The Slight Risk was expanded though, especially down in west Texas.

    Is this year's hail an unusual threat?

    • @WeatherOnTheGoForecasts
      @WeatherOnTheGoForecasts  Před 17 dny +2

      The large hail has been more common this year across the Great Plains due to the significant drought ongoing in New Mexico and West Texas. The drought gives the lower atmosphere a lot more dry air than normal, which leads to a better environment for hail growth.

    • @WeatherOnTheGoForecasts
      @WeatherOnTheGoForecasts  Před 17 dny +2

      Derechos are difficult to forecast. The pattern into early May would favor the potential for derechos more across the Upper Midwest into Ohio Valley.
