Not like I want to see anyone cry, but I gotta give major props to the vulnerability. That's what music is supposed to do, man! If there's one thing I could tell the boys/men of the world, it's that we need to feel our feelings. I've been through a lot of shit in my life, some of it I've caused, and most of it boils down to, I was trying to lock my feelings behind a steel door, and that only worked until I myself got locked behind a steel door. There is nothing more harmful in this world than cutting off one's own feelings. If the music makes you want to get up and dance, dance. If it makes you want to cry, cry. If it makes you angry, let it out peacefully. The world needs more people showing vulnerability, especially in public forums like CZcams. If I'd learned from a younger age that showing emotion was OK, I'd probably be a Hell of a lot better off. Also doesn't help that my mom tells me whenever I cry, "It's okay, you just need to be medicated," or "You'll find the help you need eventually." Those don't help. Talking about my issues, that helps.
Sorry for the tangent, I just wanted to share. Be proud that you can be vulnerable on camera and still have the guts to put it out for people to see. More people need to be like that! I applaud you, Silas.
Wisdom from a millennial! Truth spoken.
Two thumbs up on your comment. I am so sick of the majority of commenters crying about their favorite bands being "underrated" instead of talking about how the actual song or band effected their lives.
MAJOR PROPS❤❤❤
You are a treasure Silas and The Rock'nRoll! Keep feeling the music and your emotions, never shut them off. You give me hope for the younger generation, you astonish me I can tell you really feel the music.🙏🙏
Exactly! Because emotions are PHYSICAL. To deny your emotion is to deny that you EXIST. You cannot change you emotions with your mind.. you have to become *one* with your emotion. You can change a *feeling* with your mind.. you can trick yourself, it's a *flight or fight* response characteristic.. that's why we can go through trauma, and come out the other end. But it's not a real thing, it's superficial.. temporary. You CAN change how you feel, emotionally, though, when you are *one* with your emotion. One being, mind/body/soul alignment.. to be a whole human.
If you''re angry.. let it out the way it's supposed to. You can trust yourself, and trust your anger, why you're angry. Anger is NOT the *path to the dark side*. Anger has to STOP being a black listed emotion. Anger does NOT commit violence, naturally. Anger IS NATURAL.
Do you know where your *emotions* come from. I'' tell you. Emotion is the base of your lifetime, and it was developed during your childhood. Your emotional base, is what you learned and were fed, from your birth on up to adulthood. That's your base. So whatever they made you swallow, growing up, is what you have for an emotional base, your entire life. A childhood of abuse, pain, discrimination, poverty, systemic violence, unreasonable expectation, economic slavery... contributes towards a base of ANGER.. for many many people, but they've been CONDITIONED by educators, media, medical establishment and society itself that if you're ANGRY.. you must be mentally ill... particularly is you're violent... they tell us this while they got armed thugs just gunning people down in the streets... but be calm. Don't get angry. Mel Gibson talked about this... *the social contract*. Can't get angry.. because it isn't personal, eh?!
There's a very good reason why violence rules the planet.. because nobody is grown up with compassion, to live a life; and, everybody is enslaved to the 9nth degree, from the cradle to the grave.
WHY do we continue to tell people to be peaceful about this. At least get angry! Don't be such LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER.
As an old head it's weird to see someone who hasn't heard this album. Awesome that you're trying it out.
The longing, the melancholy, the pain and emotion of U2
U2 are one of the hugest bands in the world. Songs:
"Sunday Bloody Sunday"
"New Years Day"
"(Pride)In The Name Of Love"
"One"
"Where The Streets Have No Name"
That’s my fav playlist by U2!
Joshua Tree is a perfect album. The original was one album with about 10 songs.
11 songs
@@RR64434 Hence the word "about."
@@cshubs Yes. I just was supplying the correct answer.
Good but overrated imo. Unforgettable Fire and Achtung better
@@sillysausage4549 I think UF and Achtung had some good songs but not nearly every song, like with JT, but to each his own.
The single greatest band of the last 40 years.
This is why I watch reaction videos. I pick some of my favourite songs, add 'reaction' to the search term, and listen to it through the ears of someone else, vicariously listening to it for the first time again, through you. Oh, and I LOVE how you engaged with it and paid attention, you gave up your emotions to it and that's what music is about. I'm 47, I bought this album when it first came out, this was one of the stand out songs, and I listened to it for the first time again through you, Silas, so thank you, I felt like a proud father.! Ha ha.
Nice man. U2 during the late 80's thru early 90's was one of the biggest bands in the world no lie. Early in their career they helped popularize alternative music with songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Years Day". Worthy rabbit hole. They can go hard too. Try "Bullet The Blue Sky" from this album.
I remember this song going off like a bomb when it came out. Still gives me chills.
I remember being 13, on school summer break, my friend from another city had arrived to spend the Summer at her grandmas (my neighbour) and she brought this new cassette The Joshua Tree.
One of the best bands of all time. Whether you do it on the channel or not, you owe it to yourself to dive deeper into them, you’ll never regret it.
One by U2 is emotional Silas 👍
Such a perfect song. Just beautiful.
Gosh! If that's your first U2 song, you have so much more to listen to. Enjoy the plunge! 😎😎❤❤👍👍
I understand your emotions! I had to break up with a bf of yesteryear lol, we laid on the floor and listened to this album, when this song came on, we clutched each other & cried. It will always hit me hard, but the memories are well worth it!❤ I know you will enjoy so many tunes by U2, they slayed the 80's BIG TIME!😊
I just watched a dude hear U2 for the first time. Very cool. So many great songs from them.
The moment I heard "New Years Day" and saw the video, I was a fan... decades later... ❤
So nice to someone discovering this band. So awesome.
The Joshua Tree album is 🔥🔥🔥
U2 were always ahead of their time musically. They were forging the way and the rest of the world was running to catch up. Music they made in the late 70's sounded very late 80's. Music in the 90's could still be released and be hits today. A lot of groups have gotten their inspiration from this band. I've never met a U2 song I didn't like over the course of their 40+ years of making music. But that's just me. not everyone is a fan of ALL of their work, but a lot of us are. i often think when reading comments that people are drawn most of the album that was released when they were young and call it their "definitive album" and which album is the definitive one depends entirely on the person. This song is from their fifth studio album. if you decide to keep on down this rabbit hole (and please do) and you decide to check out live versions of songs, start with a version that is closest to the era in which it was released. don't get me wrong, i LOVE the later versions too when the songs themselves evolve, but it might help you to hear it as we all did originally then check out what it became in later years. :)
Edit: the reason that album you are looking at is so huge is because it was released later as a deluxe edition years after the original release of Joshua Tree. The original album had 11 songs. U2 is VERY prolific when writing for their albums and dozens of songs get written and tried and they pick through to see which will make it onto an album. So when they release a later edition of an album as an anniversary or whatnot, it often includes many of those unreleased songs that were written at the time of the recording of the original album.
I'm not a huge u2 fan but I agree, I was forced to listen to them by an aunt of mine who is obsessed with them.
U2 have been playing together since high school. They've been together over 40 yrs and are still all original members. 1 of the very very few bands that can say that. Bono even married his high school girlfriend and they're still together.
Brilliant, I discovered this song when I was 18 in 1999. It strikes me to see that future generations experience exactly the same thing. That’s what timeless music is about, standing through the test of time. Keep on discovering Silas!
"Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Stuck in the Moment" , and "Beautiful Day" along with this song are my favorite U2 songs.
Good to see you get Emotional!!! Great Legendary band!!! Great song!!! Great album!!! React to all the album!!! You will be drench in tears!!!!
The bass on this is fantastic.
Whenever my neighbours used to disturb me with fights, I used to play this full power. It soon shut them up! lol
For the record....I was just turning 21 when this album came out in 1987.... living in Vegas..... just so happened months prior they filmed "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" downtown at the Freemont near Union Plaza and Glitter Gulch... which is now known as The Freemont Experience.
I'm with you. A powerful and epic of a song. I never get tired of hearing it.
I'm glad that teenagers like you like this song.
That's how you felt, I felt the first time I heard this song around the year 1987, I was a fan of U2 but with this they ended up buying me. Sometimes I think that the first time I fell in love was not with a person, but with this song.
From that day to date, this song was always present in my life, giving me strength when I wasn't well and accompanying me when I was.
The forerunners of U2 were the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. They were a classic hard rock band and had one of rock's few black frontmen. I saw them live when I was your age and they blew me away!!! 🙃
One of the few songs that still makes me cry
U2 are amazing live . You should watch live at Red Rocks , the whole concert is mesmerising. Gloria is my favourite song by them. You looked like you really enjoyed them ,a great reaction again from you!
Imagine an entire generation growing up on songs like this. This is generation X!!
If you check out the first song from this (The Joshua Tree) album, “Where the Streets Have No Name”, make sure to watch the full-length video of it, U2 shut down a whole neighborhood in Los Angeles to film it, pretty epic!
Check out their album Achtung Baby, too. It's a ferocious, different beast. The Fly especially. The live version of that song from Zoo TV Sydney, or the Boston 2001 version, are insanely great. x
One of the biggest bands, top 5, over the last 40years.
People are moved, sometimes to tears, by great Art, Silas. Nothing wrong with allowing others to see, (I'm not suggesting that you're embarrassed or anything like that), yes, powerful indeed. Enjoy U2 dude.
Man, I envy you, all those songs of them to hear & feel for the first time
As mentioned by others -- The Joshua Tree is an amazing album. Every song on this album, in my opinion, is amazing -- from the bombastic 'Bullet the Blue Sky' to the dark and unsettling mood of 'Exit', it simply does not get much better than this.
Thank you for your sharing your deeply heartfelt and emotional response to this 80's classic. Music is supposed to make you feel something deep down inside, and this song resonated with you. I hope you enjoy more classics.
Aww so sweet, telling us what we all know in your young voice, nice to see the next generation finding out about what went before them ❤🎶👍
Yes indeed, Gen z didn't get all the good music us older folks grew up with
This is one of the best rock albums ever made. Top 5. Too great.
One thing about The Edge; He gets a lot of shit for his playing style, but he always has another gear to shift into. Just like that final super-simple riff. He knows how to take you places.
Early U2 is very different from later U2. The Joshua Tree was their huge breakout album and "With or Without You" was probably their biggest song. The album only had 11 songs, though. You should check out early U2 albums like "Boy" and "October," which were released in 1980 and 1981 as the punk era was becoming commercialized into "New Wave." The early albums were much more sparsely produced had limited commercial success. Notable tracks from these albums include "I Will Follow," "Gloria" and "I Fall Down." Their first big album was "War" which featured the hits "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day." It's a good rabbit hole to go down.
Agreed! 👍
Your reaction is just what my insides do every time I hear this track.
I always remember my 26;yr old son was 7 and singing help by the Beatles and this old man came up to me saying he loved that. It didn't mean much to me then but today I'm that old man loving the fact you love my band's song. I was 14; when this song came out and changed my life. There's many more great tunes to check out. Classic singles like One or hidden gems like Bad in Live Aid or Until the End of the world live Zoo TV. Enjoy my friend!
Silas I don't know how old you are but when I discovered U2 I was 16 years old. Got the cassette as a present of Under a blood red sky and was sold. That's 37 years ago 😊 I enjoy you enjoying this band. Brings me back to 1986.
Great to see how music effects us Silas. U2 is one of my favorite bands. Watch their 9/11 tribute at their Superbowl appearance. Very emotional
U2 provides such a deep rabbit hole take a dive into. Legend, and still going strong. Great reaction.
"In the Name of Love" would be a great song to react to.
Welcome to the U2 rabbit hole. 🎶
Seeing them live at Giants Stadium in 1987 was a religious experience. Ive never been to a concert where the entire stadium from floor to rafters was on their feet the entire show. Profoundly moving as a 19 year old.

imagine being a teenager when this song came out. GenX never recovered.
First big concert I went to was Joshua Tree Tour.... hard to top that.
Which ever song or album you listen to make sure it's the live version as that's what they were born to do .
Now you know what it’s like for a song to play you, yourself like an instrument! This song and arrangement are that good! Thx for the reaction video, you took me back to when I first heard it when it came out, to rediscover its power and passion.
Bono could sing an Excel spread sheet and still make us feel something.
Exquisite rabbit hole to travel down!! I envy you this journey!!! Enjoy!!🎵🎼🎶🎸🎤🎧🎙🎹🥁🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
What a reaction that was 👏👏👏. Rabbit hole time 👍👏👏
Anything from Joshua Tree, might as well do the whole thing. Bullet the Blue Sky is dark and dope.
U2 live is like a religious experience!!! check out some live material from them!!!
U2's other songs worth checking out besides this particular song:
1) One
2) Numb
3) Where the Streets have no Name
I"ve had many empty nights contemplating empty nights lol.. with this song playing and feeling my mood. It's excellent company.. this song. xo
This was one of the albums of that time that one would test out a new stereo system with...crystal clear sound quality. 😊
That's how I felt first time.. Bloody Sunday is just as powerul..
You are human. Feel it! Express it!
would recommend, bad live aid, bullet the blue sky live zoo tv, Exit live rattle and hum, until the end of the world zoo tv, Every Breaking Wave, live from the MTV EMA's 2014
great song, great reaction!!
Awesomely satisfying Gen-Z reactions!
I rememebr the first time I heard this song. I was also blown away.
watch this live please.. listen to them live they NEVER disappoint
There's a very popular trend to knock U2 mainly because Bono's outspoken views on many subjects and his seemingly "holier than thou" arrogance. There used to be a joke: What's the difference between Bono and God? God doesn't wander around Dublin thinking he's Bono.
However, there is no denying the musical talent of U2 and, anyone who's seen them perform live will tell you how amazing they are. I am not a massive U2 fan, but Under A Blood Red Sky has to be one of the best live albums ever produced. Listen to Sunday Bloody Sunday from that album or 40
Where the streets have no names, do that be you won't be disappointed !!!
Bâh-nō.
Bono brings a power emotion and yearning in his vocals that is in a class all its own.
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" off the same album. Another classic!
You GOT it! It's so beautiful to watch people FEEL the real deal when it (rarely) comes along. And U2 is the real deal. Emotion played in layers of music that carries you places. There's a DEPTH to their work that just isn't seen much anywhere else. I love that you got it.
New Years Day , Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride in the Name of Love, great songs!
A brilliant early live mini album of 8 tracks 'Live Under A Blood Red Sky' is a great place to start. Reminds me of watching 'Live Aid' in 1986.
The build up is amazing.
Great reaction, Silas! The Joshua Tree is U2's crowning achievement, and an iconic 80s album. I remember buying the cassette of this album right when it was released at my local record shop and popping it into my Walkman and walking home listening to it and having my eighteen-year-old mind utterly blown!
Due, I've seen them live, twice, in the past 20 years and as great as they are in the studio... they are even better live. Recommendation: When reacting to U2 songs.... always check to see if there is a version from their "Live at Slane Castle" concert because I feel that concert will give you a better sense of their abilities and soul.
In 87' they basically climbed onto a roof in the Financial District in San Francisco and started playing for anyone passing by to stop and enjoy. A crowd of 20,000 clogged the streets with only 2 hours notice. It's was called the Save The Yuppies Concert and it was fantastic. Peace/JT
Yeah, great band...lots of incredible music to checkout...the song "One" is so powerful with it's lyrics and message
U2 is another awesome band with their own style with Bono’s lyrics and voice and many great songs and albums. Red hill town and Bullet the blue sky off this album are awesome.
Need to check out their earlier songs for that post-punk sound.
These are the reactions I live for: genuine, sincere, emotional. Really enjoyed the video, and I appreciate your willingness to share it w/ an ocean of strangers
I"ll suggest *ONE* by U2, if you haven't seen it. But do both! There's their first original hit One. It's a fantabulous song. But then watch it when he does it with Mary J Blige. The song gets blown up... her addition to the song changed the ENTIRE THING. New meanings, everything. And.. Mysterious Ways.
If and when you have the time, check out some of their other great albums like "Rattle and Hum", "Achtung, Baby", "Zooropa" and "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb". They really do have some of the best lyrics ever written. Oops, the suggestion for this video just came through my feed now; didn't realise it was almost a year ago...
Yes you picked the best song to begin this journey with, and YES you must continue the journey! Their songs move you on a deep level that sometimes words can't describe. Continue on with I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for, Where the Streets Have No Name, Mysterious Ways, and One.
Silver and Gold live in Denver is a great song to check out! They made a movie called Rattle and Hum and it's worth a watch as well, lots of great live performances 👍
That's lyrical and vocal power: pure, vulnerable, blissful and just damn good music. Blessed to grow up with this in its era
If you're going to do one of their albums, make it Joshua Tree (11 songs). Every song is gold and the whole album flows from the 1st to last song. It is their best album in my honest opinion. Saw this tour in '87 at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Awesome show!
Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggg rabbithole you've fallen into. Enjoy.....
Your heartfelt reaction gladdens this old heart ❤️!
This is my favorite u2 song I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Cool reaction mate, U2 are in the top 10 most successful bands ever. Had the pleasure of seeing them during zoo TV tour in the 90s. The Joshua Tree album this track is on is regarded as one of the best albums ever written. Certainly recommend reacting to that album or Achtung Baby. I would avoid the super deluxe version though as the original album only has 10 or 11 tracks. Peace
Silas what you had pulled up on your screen was The Joshua Tree Super Deluxe Edition which has 5 discs. The original album only has 11 songs. You should do the whole album i think you'll love it. With U2 i like everything before this album (including this album!)
U2 is such an original band with an unique sound. Harmonies, melodic lines, original guitar solos, the fantastic singing. Congrats on your reaction. Good to see how great songs create an impact on people.
U2 was chosen to do halftime of the 1st Super Bowl post 9/11 for a reason. Go react to the U2 halftime show post 9/11. The have the names of everyone who died on a screen behind them as they perform.
What an awesome reaction. Made me emotional to see.
I loved your reaction.
that's the deluxe versoin. The one release in 1987 had like 12 songs.
We had real music back than... The music back than moved you.
If you want more where that came from, go for either I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking for, One, or Where the Streets Have No Name. If you want another wide to them, try The Fly
🎸💯 Great choice for a reaction, Silas‼🔥
🤯 "With or Without You" is a great cut‼☮ ❤ 🎶
