  • Tonight we image Messier 81, an amazing spiral galaxy near the big dipper asterism. I captured this image using an astromodified DSLR camera and the Celestron Nexstar 8se telescope with f/6.3 focal reducer. The mount used is the Celestron CGX.

Result was looking great! Good to find new channels, hopefully I'll get a bigger scope one day to be able to get some galaxies.

Nice capture Kyle, I bet you're loving the CGX over the AVX, that's a pretty big upgrade!

Thanks Joe! The CGX definitely seems to handle the 8se better than the AVX could, and now my 80mm and the 8se both have dedicated EQ mounts. Maybe in the future I'll get an astro dedicated camera too, but I am still enjoying just the DSLR. Clear skies!
