Did The Controlled Burn Get Out Of Control?
Doing a controlled burn is a great way to maintain areas of the farm and property. Not only does it clean it up and remove some pesky bugs like ticks and wasps.. at least temporality, but it also turns nutrients back to the soil.
This was our first burn on the new farm in Mississippi but there will be many more. Prescribed fire is an important part of habitat management for deer and wildlife as well.
We also got some metal gate fabricated by a neighbor for the predator proof chicken coop and made some venison summer sausage. So much to do around here all the time!

It’s nice to see a daughter so eager to help her pa. Few younguns today would be that willing?
For sure the prettiest little “ firebug lady” I’ve ever seen. Queen of the flame. 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very valuable when neighbors have skills like that, in case of Tough times everyone brings a little to the table
So true !
I love how you are allowing your daughter to be a part of building your home. Her loading the gates was great. Hearing her say I did it was priceless. God bless you.
Awesome job teaching your daughter about respect and responsibility and also had work. 👍🏻🇺🇸🤠🇺🇸
Thank you 🙏
I am always so impressed with all that Frankie does around the farm. Wow!
She is a hard worker
I use a 25 gallon Pro sprayer on the back of my Mule for fire control when I am doing controlled burns. You can use a small hand held sprayer for smaller areas with smaller fire. The Pro sprayer from Tractor Supply will shoot a stream about 20 feet which is great!
Frankie is and amazing young lady.Great worker. Also may God bless your family
Syd I think you look so much better in this natural setting than in Cally! You're in your element. But the best thing I find so awesome with your guys new channel is Frankie being totally involved! So proud of her but also Mike! Love how is he is such a great teacher and give her the ball to run with it but always giving some questions like is the load supported... You're the driver!
I got my start the same way from my dad at her age. It such a shame that most kids her age are not learning the valuable stuff you and Mike are teaching her! Frankie is getting a free college education probably doesn't even know it! But so proud of you two Syd and Mike for being such great parents!!! 😉👍👍🫶🫶
Awe thank you 🙏
I've been watching y'all since you started the channel, I just can't get over Frankie growing up in an amazing young lady. Frankie has to be thinnest Ranch hand ever.... I love y'all 💞💞💞
Looking good. I burn my place every spring. Makes a big difference in keeping weeds down. I always carry my 2gallom pump up sprayer with water it helps tremendously I directly the burn.SEMPER FI
A little pyro, huh. Haha! Think I might have had a squirt bottle of water but, hey what do I know. I like to see the relationship you have with Frankie. It shows happiness and love, and she is adorable. Thanks!
Y’all can be mighty proud of Frankie! What an awesome young lady! Those pines love to be burned! We’ve got a control burn in the National Forest,up on the mountain, right now. They burn portions every year. I think this burn is about 15,000 acres. I’ll be Turkey hunting in it by the first of April. They love those burns and that new growth generated by the fire!
Sure makes everything green up when it comes in!
Frankie did a great job. Yard will love the burn. I told my wife I need to do that she said he'll know your not we live in a log home. I said yes dear. Coop look good
Frankie his amazing young lady she just helps out her mum and dad xx
Now that you guys are in Mississippi you need to get yourselves a drip torch. It will make quick work of it. 3 parts diesel & 2 parts gas.
You need a rake for back of tractor. Youll love it for doing cleanups. And a rockbucket.
Good afternoon Mike and Syd
Syd, you missed the opportunity to "use" a few seconds of the Def Leppard clip, "Pyromania". It's been 40 years since they introduced the song. Time flies when having fun.
Had California learned to manage fire, and burn off the fuel laying on the ground, there would be one less issue for the state, besides confusion.
Agreed ! Fire “season” is ridiculous there
Glad everyone is safe I did a "controlled" burn at my dads down in Georgia a few years back just trying to help him out it got crazy out of control was really scary for about felt like an hour but it was only like 10 mins but MAAAANNN!!! Thanks for sharing Yall
Just found your channel and liking it. North of you in eastern West TN.
If the ponds are natural and not clay lined, think about doing a partial dredge to deepen and remove some of the organic matter. Bonus points, when the sludge dries out, it is good to add to your garden.
Thank you 🙏 that is just what our neighbor said earlier today 😉
Beautiful Frankie Always saves the day ❤❤
Fort Flocks is going to Rock!
Frankie 💪
Great job 👏
Good job everyone. Love the gates
Good morning😁 fire music: violins playing as mike walks out of a cloud of smoke😁👍 nice! Great job, frankie👍 sausage looks yummy👍syd, you little pyro😁 great video, thank you😁🍺
She starts the fire, Frankie killing it with Kenny.
😂 and yes she is !
A neighbor of our wants to do a control burn of 300 acres, he's going to have multiple volunteer fire departments help with it because most of his property borders woods.
GREAT jobs guys!
Being from California you probably don’t know this but you could gather those Pineneedles up and put around your house for mulch or put around the trees that look real nice for you Pile them up round the base of the trees they’re very decorative
Mike is from Tennessee… but this area needed burned out … way too many .
Good job on the control burn. It looks really good! Cool video. 👍❤️
Thank you 🙏
You have an awesome family. Your daughter reminds me of mine. Always wants to help. And yeah take over! Lol, aweeome videos. ❤
Ha ha thank you 🙏
Yall should make a short with your daughter getting after it on the tractor. Get it girl!
Funny thing about burning pines that the seeds will take off n start having saplings growing
Mike was having so much fun out there burning. It is funny what entertains men folk.🤣😂🤣
😂 so true !
Welcome to Mississippi, just remember those pine needles are lighter in themselves.
It looks so good keep up the good work
Pond looks good
Wow! That was interesting, never thought of the need for a controlled burn… too bad I can’t do that! I have two huge pine trees in my backyard. I rake up the pine needles constantly! After a heavy wind, they are in my water features! Not fun!
Oh yikes ! They can be the worst to clean up after 😞
Some people use those pine needles to put around plants that like acidic soil. Makes me wonder if you could find someone that wants some 🤔
They are so abundant out here that no one would want them 😂
@@OurOkieHomestead Pine needles don't actually add any acid to the soil, it's just a myth, but the needles are a good mulch.
Also if you start your fire on the downwind side and let it burn on a back fire it will burn cleaner and the flame will be lower.
Nice to see you guys back how you guy’s liking the new pad
We love it here but we need er took a break from CZcams … we have been here 😂
Now I know why Mike was so late to the live.... Burning stuff is fun 😃👊💥
😂 as Tim says he’s a diva 😂
Good morning Syd and Mike
Love the Mississippi content
Thank you 🙏
Garden or backpack sprayer of water for the trees, just a suggestion, is what I do.
I think you guys should build a killer tree fort!!!!😊
Great Video!!!!!! If i was by yall i totally would have helped there I love me some fire !
Another GREAT VIDEO I love watching your videos ❤️
Thank you 🙏
Sydney your hair and eyes are so pretty. I miss watching you guys I got to get back into it. You look great 👍
Fire will help keep down snakes too! You guys did a great job!
Yep and thank you 🙏
snakes r needed for rodent control
Some snakes you keep around and some you don’t …
Another great vid! Good thing an air tanker wasn't called in !! Have fun
😂 we did let the fire chief know before we started just in case 😂
Nice video guys ❤️🙋♂️👍
Thank you 🙏
"Controlled" is the key word! Oh yeah!
Burning off the pine needles and with the rains going to have erosion issues hopefully not but could
Thanks for sharing the journey of your new place .
The answer to your titled question is I don't know, but if Mike broke the Tractor, he might have managed to burn something up beyond recognition!!! 🤣🤣
oh me Mike I used the zero turn to help with the burn;;;lol;;;;had a pump up two gal sprayer with water and blower like yours to control where and what to burn also hac garden hoses split for two areas in case out of control a bit;;;ususally when I started the burn the wind always started getting stronger ;;;;lol;;;;shame shame poor Frankie having to unload and stack the gates all by herself;;;;you did good Frankie;;;;don't care what pop said;;;;lol;;;;opinion;;;I think burning the creek might add more nutrients to make vegetation grow stronger and faster;;;lol;;;field burn good;;;;everything will be greeneer where burned;;;;they make different gallon size sprayers with electric pumps to spray crops etc;;makes a great burn control help;;;;sorry just can't keep from writing books;;;lol;;;I shut up now;;;good one again;;;;thumbs up and keep em comin;;;;;
Just saw this channel. What up.
... The Ring Of Fire ...!
Fish probably wanting some of those charbroiled crickets is what they’re thinking😁
Yum !
Add a landscape rake to your Kobata attachment collection, one that can be used to push as well as pull. Is that a P-365 XL?
I like to see a video of where the main Garden is being killed up at, the clock is ticking it's almost time to put the whole Garden in all at once LOL got that tiller on the back of the tractor I feel like she would have done had a spot picked out and it been filled up about two or three times because when it starts raining and getting wet it's not going to stop, the main Garden area needs to be prepared
Yep , they have been working on that too ! Video to come 😀
Check your local rural king they sell flame thrower for doing things like this
Old tractor would be gorgeous in the front yard.
I think so too
I just got Beavis and Butthead running thru my head... BURN BURN BURN..
😂
When I do a burn I take the ash and till it into the soil for the garden.
Nice 👍
Do need to refrigerate the summer sausage? If not what is an aprox. shelf life?
Put it in the fridge
Yep 👍 I’m the fridge or freeze it
🤙🏻
Too bad for copyrights because "Smoke on the Water" would've been a good song!!
Ha ha true
CHECK THE TRANSMISSION ON TRACTOR SOUNDS FUNNY
Yeah, it's one of those new Hydrostatic automatics... Sounds a bit whiny 😂
Did you guys have any trees go down during the storm? We had some flash flooding and a bunch of trees down near Fulton, Ms. I bought a flame thrower to use btw 😆 🤣
Just some big limbs but no flooding.
The 3MS bottle openers/? would also make good ringers for wind chimes. Have a great day 😊.
Sure will help keep the snakes back, and more visible! Okay who else was singing Johnny Cash, I fell in to a burning ring of fire…..
Definitely! He actually did a short singing that the other day !
Have you guys run into any water moccasins or copperheads yet on the property?
No we haven’t…. Previous owner said he only saw a handful in 30 years but I’m sure they are around
❤🐈
Frankie is a hard working girl
I’m all for controlling weeds and other things with a burn but was there a specific reason to burn around the pond? Maybe you state it in the video (haven’t watched it all yet) or I missed it.
We do , lots of pine needles and brush
A bucket of water probably wouldn't be a bad idea. ;-)
Instead of Three Mississippi you should name the channel Pyro Twins. Is this the beginning of a Long Hot Summer in MS? ;-)
Mornin folks 👋😎👍🔥
I bet your Cal friends asking a hole bunch of questions
😂 it’s illegal to think about fire in California 😂
Um, Mike is burning the pine needles by the pond because, A, he wants weeds to grow B, he's board or C, because Sid couldn't say no again? Sid you're a comedian girl. You make me laugh at least once every video you make. Hope y'all have an awesome week. 😁PS tell Mike air + fire = more fire. 🔥
Ha ha thank you 🙏
Why would anybody deliberately burn up their humid and soil life
Burning areas can be really beneficial for the soil.
🤔
Looks like Syd is practicing for when she attends a “mostly peaceful protest “ 🤪😝
😂
👍❤️🇺🇸
thats pine rawsin you ain 't going to put it out with a blower
Man, y’all must be building a gorilla cage!
😂
Surprised your neighbors dont complain and are you required to have a burning permit even on your land
No permit and our neighbors and the fire chief all knew.
🇳🇴👍👍
Snakes can go through those fences. They eat the eggs. What's the reason you are burning the grass around the pond? Frankie got caught texting someone by her reaction. I hate pine trees. Too many pinecones and needles everywhere.
Burning pine needles… not much grass right there
Such a beautiful area. Don't burn it down. 🤣 JK
😂
give it a couple of weeks, all that black will be bright green and much healthier
No wonder California caught on fire forever
No water, plus no land management = fire season
@@3MISSISSIPPI Plus no controlled burns.
Have Frankie wear a seat belt on tractor she has a roll bar and will be a lot safer
Mike is part pyromaniac . Who'd a guessed
😂
DO YOU REALY NEED A HAND GUN WHILE YOU BURN? WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF ?
Yes. There are lots of venomous snakes and other critters that you need to be able to keep from getting after you .
@@3MISSISSIPPI B S
You guys should cut off all those smaller branches towards the bottom of the trees and the dead branches around the pond and the tree where the old 🚜 was.
