  • It’s the battle of the SUVs in this latest Head2head video review, and we put three contrasting 4X4s against one another. The Jaguar F-Pace combines a sporty ride complete with modern engines and stylish looks, but an expensive price tag. The Land Rover Discovery Sport offers class leading off road capabilities and seven seats, but a less than inspiring infotainment system. Finally, the Ford Edge offers space galore as well as an extremely comfortable ride. So, which one do I think is best? Which SUV is the best value for money? Find out in this brand new Head2Head video review in 4k!

    • @EwacoolThereviewer
      @EwacoolThereviewer Před 7 lety +4

I think the problem Jag is having is that they have to keep their costs down to keep up with the rivalry with BMW, Audi and Mercedes. This means they have to cut back somewhere, and that somewhere, as with BMW, Audi and Mercedes, is the interior quality. Lots of cheap nasty plastics. I will however give Jag credit for trying to hide the cheap plastic, rather than just showing it like in the other cars.

We work at craft markets and the Jaguar isn't as capacious or practical in the back as the Ford or the Land Rover. The Ford wins there as its a true flat floor and much longer - the same size as the Mondeo estate. Audi Q5 and BMW X3 are really poor in this department.
Try an Ikea flat pack furniture test in future videos?? Or a how many labradors can you happily fit in the boot?

First thank you for doing this it showed me a lot and put thing in its place. BUT When I had a Jag XF I looked at a F pace in the show room I wasn't impressed do a shop by the time you get all the add on extras to so called win this it would be close to £60,000 not £30,000 I know, I went and priced it up just for laughs . Now I am not in the market for the New price bracket but for the second hand. I am just changing a BMW X3 for a Ford Edge Titanium with extras . don't get me wrong I like the X3 it drives fast and grips the road but they don't have a front eclectic heated screen :) . and the sound system in the X3 was crap sorry to say . not looking at Range rover and everyone tells me they have loads of electrical problems . this may have changed but can not take a chance and they are going for a lot more cash. I am glad you thought the Ford Edge could compete in this line up.

If you are comparing the PCP lease cost of the Edge against the Jag and Landrover there is simply no comparison.
By the time that you have added all of the extras that the Ford Edge Vignale has as standard the cost for the Jag and Landrover is double.
I have ordered one (Oct 17) and the monthly cost for me is £250 as against nearly £500 for the other two.

Taking a Ford edge on test tomorrow, currently have a Kuga ST-Line. Already driven the Discovery Sport HSE Black (very impressed). Possibly taking a Jaguar F Pace out on Friday. Depreciation on the kuga is horrific, as are most cars, however the Land Rover Discovery seems to hold better value. We don't pay list prices so have generally good deals through the privilege scheme. Just a shame Jaguar only offer 10% at the moment..

Everything about it seems pretty excellent.... but I'm put off by question marks over reliability. Should I be? Is second-hand asking for trouble, or would a 3 year-old car have had the teething problems sorted out, but not yet be getting old enough for the problems of old age?

These are, I suppose, variants of 'premium' mid size SUVs.... and there are so many of them. The Edge is such a big car not to be offering 7 seats (like the Toureg but much cheaper)...... Rather than any of these, WITH OPTIONS, most of the full size SUVs like The XC90, the new Discovery, Q7 etc WITHOUT OPTIONS seem much better at moving folk and towing. The XC90 holds its value and does everything well, without shouting about it.

The Ford Edge is the winner in my book. Beside being gorgeous, people who will choose this product instead of the Jaguar or Land Rover won't be stuck at the dealership every 4 weeks to fix an electronic problem or a mechanical one. The reliability of the Edge is far superior compared to the Land Rover and the Jaguar.
Also, in America, you can get the Edge with a 2.7l twin-turbo V6 clocking at 315hp and 350 lb-ft of torque for less than £38000...
The Discovery Sport is the prettiest of the 3 according to my taste. If you want a sport car, buy a sport car, not a SUV. When you are in the market for an SUV is because you want to have room for the family, little bit of off-road capabilities, space, comfort and reliability. The Edge is the clear winner in the match if you consider the price and the previous criteria.

What's super weird is I've experienced the LR touchscreen and it's not even close to being as useful and intuitive as the Sync 3. I noticed the way he was pointing at the screen. Mine won't do anything either as it seems to think I'm not making a deliberate choice. But after the Explorer Sync 2 and now Sync 3 I don't even notice it not responding. Do the others work with tech like Apple Carplay or Android Auto? Not sure, the comparo didn't express stuff like that. Rewatch the part where the digital systems are compared and it's not clear what in the world is going on as he quickly dismissed it without actually reviewing. Weird!
The Edge is larger in rear storage and overall seating space. I have been in the LR Disco Sport, it's kinda small for trips (Edge barely does for my full family) but I have no real idea of the F-Pace since I still haven't seen one where I live or rented on business trips.
Strange too, here in the states, the Brit cars are way more expensive. Do you find these things in base trim in the UK cause that's like a unicorn (or maybe a Porsche)?. For that money, I could get the Edge Sport which is a far better value. Ford is also about to get rid of that 6 speed which makes the engine seem weak. It's only a poor performer due to the gearing. I believe 9-speed is coming this year to give it some wings.
Something that seemed out of place was the front wheels spinning on the Edge and no rears turning. I looked again and it's just a FWD model in this video (any number of conditions such as tires are the culprit). I live in the world of snow and ice during Winter months and wouldn't buy an SUV or truck without AWD/4WD locking capability. I've not seen Fords perform worse than LR's when given generally equal powertrains. The reason I even got the Ford is that I had a very good experience with their reliability of the past two I've had in the last 6 years.
Really, it's a bit small but I think the E-Pace is the cool car to have if it's just for me.

It's the same in Europe, too. Would've been nice to see "price as tested", since the Ford already comes good equipped as standard, while the F-Pace does not (heck, it isn't even AWD as standard!).
I just configured the Edge Vignale. 62.800€, fully loaded. A similar equipped F-Pace (with 180hp instead of Fords 210hp) got me to 80.700€. To be honest: I really doubt that the Jag is worth that much more money. I mean, it costs one third more than the Ford!

What engine was in this specific Ford edge was it the 2.0 eco, 2.7 eco or the 3.5 I would hope at least the 2.7 or 3.5. I really do believe that Ford edge sport should of been in here especially price point wise. It would be as much or less the the other 2 vehicles and give the a run for their money as well.

Does the F Pace S come with "plastic"? I believe all the finishing of the interior is leather/wood/aluminum. Unless you want to buy the cheapest basic model which I think is a shame (I'd rather get a Cadillac XT5 instead if I'm going to get the cheapest model) I think if you're going with the F Pace you better fork enough to get all the good features/interiors.

I don't know that it's "obvious," this review says 2017 and you didn't say which version of Sync it has. Supposedly Sync 3 is a major improvement. Thanks, though. This is almost the perfect comparison video for me. I like Fords, although my next car is almost certain to be the F-Pace. The only hitch is that I can get a ridiculous deal on a Discovery Sport from a family member that sells Jags/Rovers but the F-Pace is too red hot to get such a large discount. Luckily the Discovery Sport has a LOT to love, so it'll be hard to go wrong.

Cmon Matt! You know what Sync 3 is though right? One look at Ford website or talk with Ford would have told you that Sync 3 is on Mustang, Edge from late 2016. Fine to say Sync 2 is crap but at least comment that Sync 3 is here particularly as you mention poor infotainment as a big minus. From your Edge reviews most people wouldn't have a clue and think they'd be stuck with Sync 2 until model refresh / facelift which is simply not true!

These are all great in their own ways. However, the Ford should not really be here (in this comparison). I know this is a UK review, but here in The States, the LR and Jag start at about 10k or higher than the Ford and are built to be premium SUVs, and the Ford is more of a mainstream affair. So the Ford will obviously be less refined and such since it is cheaper in actuality because its origins are not premium. However, I guess the Edge is a bit more expensive across the pond. If it were my money in the UK though, I would also vote F Pace.
