E-bike Motor spinning - wheel not turning

  • After replacing a faulty controller it turned out I could hear the motoring spinning inside the hub but the wheel would not move. So I went online to look for a solution. I couldn't find anything on YT that addressed my specific problem so I searched forums. I was able to find one with the perfect solution.
    Note: My math is a little rusty. There's actually 9 combinations of wire connections.

    Thanks guy! I had the same problem and first thought it was something major. Found your video, then after some trial-and-error, I was able to connect the motor wires correctly to get the wheel turning. You likely saved me many hours and a lot of frustration. I owe you a beer!

    I know this post is old but helped me figure out my issue. The color combination you have in this video helped me out. It was fine till I took my motor off to change the clutch and then , I hear it run but the wheel did not spin. So thanks I don't know if you will see but, I appreciate it. 😊

    Saved my bacon in 2022.
    I'm quite a seasoned ebiker (built my own battery etc) but my mate asked me to to fix his battery and update his controller.
    Job sorted but none of the wires were plug and play.
    Anyway.. It all worked fine and dandy but couldn't get the lights / horn working.
    So instead of "bodge twisting" the wires together after I sussed part of the lights issue (got the rear & brake light working) I decided to take the controller off and solder it on my workbench.
    You know what's coming next don't you !!
    Yup, after connecting it all up it made a heck of a growl and then just span as per your description.
    The blue & green are pretty faded so I might have mixed them up and the controller lost memory.
    Watched you vid and tried it. It worked as single speed but noisy so I reconnected again the correct way and put it into learning mode.
    Success
    Was beginning to think I was going to have to buy him an new ebike !! (Trail - G)
    Anyway.. Thanks.
    Anyone got any tips on how to make the poxy horn & front light work ?

    Many thanks. This was indeed helpful, as I had exactly the same problem after buying a new controller. (In my case, yellow to yellow was correct, but the blue and green needed to be swapped over.) This tip certainly saved me a load of time, as I was just about to strip down the motor in search of some kind of centrifugal clutch! 😅

    Well thx for the video it helped a lot after a full day of trying out all the other potential issues. You combination did not work for me , but another one did.
    My yellow,blue ,green was mirrored in the opposing direction, green blue yellow.
    The comment of the motor running but the wheel not turning had me perplexed.
    My issue was the wheel was not turning but was locked solid ,vibrating loudly and could not be turned by hand , the coils must have been triggered out of sequence and were fighting one another. I had something similar happen to a washing machine once when a positional sensor went bad. Its like it was having a seizure.

    Some people got confused, this video is for installing new controller, if the phases wires doesent work properly (motor spining but the wheel not) when match the same colors, then swap them till you find the right combination, but if your bike just suddenly the wheel stop turning and the motor spining, then you meed new controller, or in my case new motor because the inside the motor got damaged when i drove the bike throught the curve and the rear wheel got slamed from the top of the curve to the botom, when i was riding it, i didnt know that cauld damage rhe motor assambly.

      @rlachermeier  Před 3 lety

    • @vanceman99

      It is likely because it is a geared motor and is prevented from turning the bike wheel in reverse while running. Watch this guy's very detailed video on bike controller installation:

  • @EQINOX187
    @EQINOX187 Před 3 lety +2

    Changing the phase wires works i guess but it is the incorrect solution to the problem, those brain power controllers need to be trained to work correctly and to do that you connect that single green wire together and then power up the bike this will make the controller enter training mode where it attempts to spin the motor in so doing learn the motor so that it runs optimally, sometimes however they come set for direct drive hubs which spin the oposit way to the motor in a geared hub and so the motor spins the wrong way and does not spin the wheel, the correct way to fix this is to pull the throttle during the training phase and this tells the controller to switch the direction
