Probably the only way this would be possible is with a design like the Sony watchman where the crt is mounted up and reflected by a mirror. Even still, the power draw would probably wipe the batteries insanely quick
@enzolumare5680 I believe the latency is slightly higher due to the analog to digital conversion. It might not be an issue. Just depends on your preference.
@@user-in1gv1uh2v HDCRTs using analog to digital converters will have some latency, but since CRT Monitors use VGA which is analog, there really isn’t an analog to digital conversion
"...but the screen is so smushed!" this is because the nintendo switch, or any modern console, outputs everything at a 16:9 ratio, except for the old CRT monitors, which is made for 4:3. basically, you had to find a way to make the output not stretched, so there are those black lines on the top and bottom.
@@bdubsenjoyer where is the 4:3 option on the switch? cause I somewhat doubt the switch would have it, I understood why the Wii U had it (it still had analog video output options), but I don't see why the switch would.
I have a CRT exactly like that one, it was made in 2006. It’s still great, I use it to watch VHS tapes and play my Wii and ps1. The model is a Toshiba model MW24F12.
Note: it’s called a CRT tv. Or a Cathode Ray Tube. The reasons why it doesn’t have HDMI are as follows. 1. It wasn’t invented yet 2. The tv works by taking the binary signals from the three cables. White is video, red and yellow are L and R sound respectively. The binary signal from the video is taken into the computer where it literally just sends it to the lasers that form the image one line at a time. The sound is handled the same way, only with speakers. A CRT tv also has an advantage over a flatscreen TV. The CRT has zero input delay. So it is used for speedrunning regularly. You basically need a CRT and original SNES console to speedrun Super Punch Out!! Because of the last fight in the game. Hence why the CRT is used.
For those who don't know it's also possible to stream VHS tapes on flat screens as well as record modern content on vhs tapes and disc with the help of $10 Walmart converters
Couple that with the latency added in by converting a digital HD signal to an SD An along signal, this isn't the best solution, but it gets the job done in a pinch.
I would reccomend, instead of trying to play MK8 on a Switch for this experiment, you use a Wii U. The Wii U has native 4:8 screen size support, meaning everything wont be stretched and a AV port, meaning you dont need an adapter
Hey dude! all good ? I'm Brazilian and I wanted to know which sword support you're using for the Nintendo Switch! I would be grateful if you could respond
The sucky part about these HDMI to AV down converters is the Latency introduced by the conversion process. I use one to connect my Nvidia Shield to my CRT for watching old media, and SOME emulation. Anything that doesn't require precise timing works REALLY well, but as soon as you try to play a platformer or anything that requires you to be quick on the inputs it gets a little difficult. I really need to get about replacing the Bluetooth in my Wii so I can get a better retro emulation set up going.
Now try connecting an old Nintendo console like the N64 or the SNES to that TV, and you will be blown away. I think that games for those consoles can look even better on old school CRT TVs than they do when played via Switch Online.
Crt is amazing I use a 4 inch screen black and white one for retro gaming and sometimes as a second monitor for words They did make 1080 resolution CRTs But those are MASSIVE The lower resolution screen helps let the pc or console or what ever to rest and not try to put so much power into it…also no tv ads
if you get an HDMI switcher you can convert it to HDMI with two adapters HDMI switches will just add more HDMI ports to that adapter and make a CRT more modern with HDMI ports
I've actually hooked up a xbox one to a 70s box tv using the ant cable, a vcr and that same converter. Needless to it was insanely confusing playing minecraft in black and white
You need to config it. I have an old arcade cabinet and it has a crt but his motherboard was broken so i used an adapter and connected my switch, then i bought a fight stick for the switch and i soldered the original buttons to the fight stick.
I was on a trip with a few buddies and packed in an old flat tv and an adapter+my switch because the place had no tv. We ended up playing smash and it worked surprisingly well
Well... not only Mario Kart 8 but also Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You can also play the old classic NES, SNES, and others if you have the membership or the Expansion pack to play N64 and Gameboy? Those work on an old TV.
if you look for some of the last CRT tvs made like later sony Trinitrons or wide screen CRTs they might have an hdmi port and they have a giant thicc glass bulb in them so they can be large as a barbie jeep and weigh as much as a large fish tank with water in it

Yes and snes too
There needs to be some sort of hand held that has a CRT screen for the display, either for a bit or as a legitimate feature. I would 100% buy it
That's really hard to achieve because the kinescope is is deep by design. Not to mention that it's very power hungry
Probably the only way this would be possible is with a design like the Sony watchman where the crt is mounted up and reflected by a mirror. Even still, the power draw would probably wipe the batteries insanely quick
why
Not worth it due too the amount of electricity and radiation they have/need also crts are very thicc
Did you even grow up with crts? Do you have any clue how big they are by design?
Some HDCRTs have HDMI, and if you have a PC CRT Monitor you can use HDMI to VGA
Not gonna lie. If HDCRTs have the same latency as regular ones, I wanna buy one
@enzolumare5680 I believe the latency is slightly higher due to the analog to digital conversion. It might not be an issue. Just depends on your preference.

Many TVs from that era have another set of composite/RCA ports on the back, the front ones often have wild input lag

it's because those games were made with CRTs in mind, so they used various quirks of CRTs to their advantage
