    I ended up ordering the ultra anyway, because I want the wifi option that's not in the base 3. (That said, I haven't received my ultra yet.)
    It'll be my first resin printer. : ) I'm kinda happy to see that even in a negative review, the stuff that's negative about it doesn't seem that bad to me, in all honesty.

    I genuinely think youtube needs more people like Mr Vogman. I watch your reviews because they're unbiased and honest. For people like me who need to upgrade their tech for business purposes, watching other youtubers get paid to only say positive things has absolutely no benefit to me and could potentially lead me down the wrong path. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have half the business I now have. So I thank you for your honest reviews.
    I also think elegoo is doing themselves more damage not sending you stuff, seems like they definitely have something to hide.

      A big problem is a lot of content creators have their livelihood dependant on Sponsors. Especially as things like Patreon and Ad revenue are becoming less and less profitable. If you anger a sponsor by not doing what they want your livelihood is affected by that. So the incentive is only there for positive reviews and I'm surprised more people aren't aware of how untrustworthy that makes these content creators.

    I appreciate your honest and detailed review. In particular I like your in depth, zoomed in, comparison between prints of different printers. This is in stark contrast with a lot of youtubers where they just print the same easy 5 prints and show an out of focus image of the print saying "seems pretty good" without elaborating or comparing to other printers, rendering the review practically useless. Please continue to make videos like these.

      Thanks buddy, and congrats on being the face of this giveaway.
      I am worried by this Elegoo tactic though. I fully appreciate that you didn't have the opportunity to review these models before the event, but many people will be buying because of your persona.
      I can't help but feel the prices have been elevated specifically for the event, causing folks to jump in for a "bargain" that in truth, doesn’t exist. Had the market had chance to test the products, it may have resulted in prices being $150 lower or more in certain cases.
      In this situation, for instance, features alone can't justify the S3U being the same price as the M5S, and yet it's been presold for MORE!!! At least, that's how I feel about it.
      None of this is your fault UJ, but this style of fast paced sales on unreviewed products doesn't sit well with me. It has the potential to mislead and overcharge consumers, and even hurt your reputation, which NO ONE wants to see.

      In regards to the sped claims, from what we’ve seen those are based on 1) special high speed (ie: extra thin) resin 2) next gen FEP material 3) increased speed in the slicer 4) very high 0.1 mm layer heights. . As you say no-ones tested these much with the Saturn 3 (though they have been tested with the M5s and do seem to deliver what they promise). More importantly, no-one has replaced the FEP, the resin and adjusted the slicing profile on an older printer and tested if that works. I’m 75-80% sure that the exact same process adjustments would offer similar speeds if done on a Saturn 2, Mars 3 or potentially even a Mars 1 or 2. Nothing in the speed requirements seems based on the printer itself and this seems likely to be marketing guff to push a new printer with minimal actual improvements.

      @Xancross Před rokem

      @@Starganderfish I'm hoping to see these tests too as I've had the exact same thoughts, nothing I've seen or heard seems to indicate the printer itself is responsible for quicker speeds, it's all external factors. Which is disappointing considering how often I've heard the faster lift speeds been pushed as being amazing. :(

I went with the M5s on pre-order...my only concern here is that scratching on the vertical faces of the Amerilabs Town, that's weird...also, I have to wonder if the semi-transparent FEP's on this and the M5s would have a slightly negative effect on print quality, like a cloudy FEP on ealier machines can...the combination of a screen protector and semi-transparent FEP woudl slightly decrease print quality, I would have thought...maybe not...

Having said that, with the Mars 9K having Wifi I think that's the one to wait for, but it feels like you glossed over it very quickly then ignored it for the rest of the review, which surprises me given how most consumer aimed / budget end printers still lack Wifi.

    When you talk about anti-aliasing how relevant is that to the printer itself? I thought it was a feature implimented by the slicer so the actual printer used for "anti-aliased" files shouldnt matter as its not really anything to do with the screen.
    Compare to a PC game the GPU(slicer) generates the "anti-aliasing" effect on is render and the monitor (printer) just displays it.
    Is this understanding wrong? Do some printers have an "anti-aliasing" funtion built in that they apply to an already sliced file?

Elegoo and another website selling printers looked identical, to the point that I had to check the URL to make sure I was on the right site. I was going back and forth comparing features, though one thing I've never been a fan of is Elegoo's stinkin' center mount ball thing for the build plate. Seeing as how that's another shared component for a lot of printers, I see they brought that over also. Basically the only difference in the 12k printers between these two companies was the external shell. I'll bet both boards and user UI panels are identical also. So as you rightly mentioned, is the exterior 'aesthetics' worth an extra $100?

    The difference between the Saturn 3 and Saturn 3 ultra is the ultra has metal build and is therefore easier to clean and it has wifi. Also in my experience with the creality halot plus which has the same cover shape as the photon it is a pain in the butt to get back on it takes four tries because you never know which way is forward once the lettering has been removed by the alcohol you will inevitably need to clean it. And the shape of the ultra lid will make it easier to tell which way goes forward without having to try all directions to see which way fits. VogMan how do you deal with the left over waste wash water of the Resin printing when you use Water Washable Resin?
    Because I am thinking of selling my Elegoo Saturn 2 Resin 8K printer and Mercury XS wash & Cure System due t me not able to sort out the waste water filled with water washable resin left overs.
    I have 14 liters stored in containers now as being in the good old UK,
    Means I can't just sit the open top container in our non hot sun here since it is as we know nothing compared to the USA heat wise even at the best like last years summer!
    The water washable resin in the old wash water is still a toxic non-throw away liquid and I seen that getting a big UV lamp is far too pricey ( a few hundred online )
    So please how do I deal with the wash water loaded up with the resin?

      Why don't you cure it in your was & cure station in a glass jar then filter it with a coffee filter or paper towel? Then spread the putty on paper towel, cure it one more time for a few minutes and it can go into the thrash. The water can be resused as washing fluid.

      @colincampbell3679 Před rokem

      @@peterkiss1204 Hi, I thought of that to? But the weight of the water in even a small glass jar worried me as that cure station has a very weak turntable which from what I seen is not that strong since any resin model it has to deal with is little to no weight unlike a jar fill up with heavy wash water. 14 liters is allot to cure in a tiny amount at a time.
      Even if I could not damage the turntable with the very heavy jar of waste water, it would take many days to do that amount little amount at a time. That would solve that problem but make another problem the Printer would be unable to be used for many days while the waste water was slowly set of the waste resin. And of course since it takes 7 liters at a time to fill up the washer container I would have another huge amount of waste water to set slowly again in little jar fills.
      Plus really I still would worry about damaging the turntable long term no matter how careful I was doing the settings?

However even if I have one in my Borough and it does not charge money to do the service, I have a problem as I don't own a car and I am sure there is a problem health and safety wise and law wise taking some very toxic waste waster on public transport to a possible long journey
      to such a place as you can't just hope that the container/s don't leak on the way there and I am sure there be a very big fine for me if it leaked on a bus?
      So I really don't wish to break laws, also get a ban from using public transport as that be a big pain!

    • @vogman
      @vogman  Před rokem

      Hi Colin. I can tell you what I do, but that doesn't mean it's ideal.
      Firstly, some local dumps do take hazardous waste, though if yours is anything like mine, you can't take in any trash that is dirty, broken, or incapable of being placed on eBay 10minutes after you've dropped it off (the arguments I've had...).
      So, I do what Peter Kiss has suggested. However, I use small plastic (clear) bottles, seal them, and stand them indoors on a windowsill. No direct sunlight is needed. Alternatively you can place them outdoors somewhere that’s safe and that light can get to. Leave it a few days then sieve.
      I separate the water and pour this outside on concrete, etc, where it will evaporate, regardless of sunshine. I'm in the UK too, of course. So think about it... after a wet day, how long does the ground stay wet? It dries surprisingly fast as evaporation isn't just about heat. Personally I don't pour the water down the drain or even on the garden. But as long as there's no animals to lick it up, I figure nature will do the rest.
      Then I again do as Peter does, but usually inside on a windowsill and finally, sorry to admit it, in the trash. I hope by that point I've removed as much of the UV curable stuff as I can...
      Not perfect, but that's my way. If anyone has anything better, I'd like to hear about it 😁

      When I saw the GK two, I imagined all the other companies would copy. But no. It's a real shame. The features that printer contained were excellent.

    In other words, for someone new like me who just wanted to either get any cubic or the other but decided to go for S3 as Elegoo offers free shipping to Canada for only $50, and I wanted something..."sexier" loll and made out of metal instead of plastic.
    Considering I don't really care about the auto levelling , but just want a printer large enough to print vehicles and terrain but also provide me a great resolution when I want to print smaller miniatures for my 40K army.
    This printer is perfect for me.
    I know the $100 difference in pre order but... the metal parts for me was enough to convince me to pay the $100 more.
    Besides.... free shipping and no VAT/tax as well so at the end it maybe saved $20-30 by not buying the M5S

      Using metal in the structurally not critical parts is just increasing the price and weight without any real life practical benefit. And this printer is more comparable to the M5 than the M5s making the price difference even bigger. The only advantage it has over the M5 is the slightly taller build area.

      Same I am also In Canada and the extra 6cm is not to be laughed at when print terrain and Titan...

    Another interesting review thanks. I know like me you interested in engineering with you metal casting series. Any chance in the future you could do a video more on the engineering uses of resin printers. Every video I have seen so far just shows people printing small figures. I want to know more about building larger or complex housing and enclosures and front panel name plates. I would also be interested in how to use the higher resolution for printing screw threads. Have to say my 3D printer you recommended is still sat in its box for the last 3 months and I’m still a bit scared to open it. I have been waiting to make room for it in the garage which is currently stuffed with new CNC. Best regards Chris

      Hi Chris. You're not the first to ask this and I genuinely would like to help. The problem is I have no ideas. If you can suggest a few engineering prints or small projects, I'd be glad to give it a go 😁
      And don't be scared. Open the box. This series should help you set up czcams.com/video/87Xk9CF7bhY/video.html

      @@vogman thanks for the reply and the link. I will check that out and think about some topics. I guess I’m interested in printing larger flat surfaces and electrical enclosures for projects and the dimensional accuracy of prints regards fits rather than resolution. On my channel I restore a lot of valve radios and a common problem is replicating lost knobs. I will probably look into getting a laser scanner so I can copy these from a pattern and paint to look like bakerlite. My Filament printer gets a lot of use in replicating lost parts I also sometimes make jigs or drilling templates. a resin printed drill gauge or similar tool would be interesting as it has to be relatively accurate. I also plan to print name plates for equipment or perhaps painting stencils.Regards Chris
