- How to cut front bangs on curly wavy hair or wavy hair at home. Explaining my professional hair cutting tips on how to cut curly hair recreate this simple, soft, and subtle front bang fringe.
For those of you who don't know this already I am a licensed hair stylist, and so I think you may find a lot of the tips explained in this video especially helpful. However, it is true that I do not condone cutting and reshaping your own hair at home. But I created this video to help educate you on how you can trim any dead ends or create a quick and straightforward curly bang hairstyle at home. Mari V great question!! Your hair should be styled as it is usually worn. This was on day one hair, but sometimes the hair can get curlier and experience more shrinkage as the days go by, at least mine do! Which is why I keep them longer at first. The day of hair doesn't matter as long as the hair isn't manipulated! And remember before you get too scissor happy restyle your hair and re-evaluate 😜 thanks for watching!! Xoxo

One of my worst childhood hair catastrophes (and I've had a few) was when my mom "trimmed" by bangs. They were way too short and looked like a bushy caterpillar at the very top of my forehead. Haven't had bangs since 🙈
We didn't have CZcams or the internet back then, so my mom did her best with what she knew. Even hair dressers had no clue how to cut or style my hair. Some very rough hair years followed that "incident". And I am so happy that I started really embracing my beautiful curls a few years back & looking forward to trying out the tips you share in your awesome videos!

My hair is in my face till my lips and my curls are as long as yours but a little shorter till my lower neck than shoulders. I’m tired of wearing a headband. I may try this. I first wana get my split ends done and front hair by a professional and there after try your method. I also trim my beard and used to get haircuts, I’m not a barber but I know Damon well how cutting and stuff works. She knows exactly what the hell she’s talking about and makes absolute sense! Sharp shears! Very important indeed. I used to have bangs but grew them out with the rest of my hair as I hated that ackward phase when they always seemed too long and in my eyes. My hubby has been trimming my hair for me since we first started dating and he has the good hair shears like you were using. They come apart and he actually sharpens them himself using a flat hone sharpening wheel. The convex scissor blades require a special technique different than regular shears. He finishes up polishing the edges with a leather disk. It keeps them razor sharp. I don’t know if you sharpen your own shears, but I know one friend who had her license said she had back up shears as she would send hers out to be sharpened, it would take a week or so and the guy charged her $30 to sharpen them each time.

Yes I understand the importance of only using sharp hair shears on my hair. I hatd going to the salon where they would use thinning shears or a razor on my hair when I specifically told them do not use either on my hair as I know they cause splitting. They never listened and I even had one rude rude stylist scream at me that I don’t tell him how to cut hair. If my guy had reached into a drawer in his kitchen and got out poultry shears, he would have never touched my hair. He keeps his good shears sharp, in a leather case in a tool bag with his other hair tools and supplies, they don’t get used for cutting paper, wire or other kitchen chores.

The most frustrating things about cutting dry curly hair is that the next time you wash your hair then the hair curls dont combine like before. So you end up with curls consists of hair with different lengths 😢😢

Thanks for this video! What suggestions do you have to communicate to a stylist how I’d like my curly hair cut? I have thin hair and would like something like your style, but reaching just under my shoulders. I ask for layers but never know how much I should ask for. Ugh I love the bang look on my hair but I’m in the process of growing it out again after a big chop from may of 2018. Its currently at my lower neck ( collar bone if wet and stretched) but it’s so un even and I don’t want to even it out until it’s a little longer. The top half of my hair is way shorter than the bottom(bc of the way i had it styled when all cut off) and its starting to look silly. I can get my hair in a slick back bun except the bangs curl up and out just like yours in the front😭😫

Those are some crazy curls. I'd have to spend an hour with a diffuser to get mine to that level. Mine have 'moods' and some moods are curlier than others.
So I have curly hair (a lot like you’re) but the pieces in the front of my face and the pieces in the back are super wavy/straight (my hair doesn’t curl up to the root). Would this be a bad idea for me to do? Because short pieces on my hair are coily unlike the rest of my hair

The reason I’m asking is I use a 30 to be platinum but I don’t use toner because purple shampoo works for me to take the yellow out because my natural shade is a level 6/7 so that’s why I could pull it off but I really like your level so what volume developer do you use please?
Hi Aurora! Don't ever apologize when it comes to asking me questions! That's what I'm here for 😊And to answer your question, I NEVER EVER use 30 volume. The lift is not in the developer, but the bleach. 30 vol gives more power to lighten faster but does way more damage. 20 volume will give the same lightening results and leave you with shinier hair. Slow and steady wins the race! Hope this helps

Hi, first THANK YOU! I'm 45, been dealing with my curls (very much like yours especially in front) my whole life. I had a hairdresser for a long time BUT she is no longer an option. So I tried on my own (huge mistake) which brings me to now. I went to a deva curl salon (mistake) that gave me a Dora the explora cut.. so now it is a curly triangle. Covid has me home and I am going stir crazy looking at my hair.. I'm trying to get my hair like yours over time as it grows.. for now I just nee to change the shape from triangle to oval.. please help
Hello! A while late sorry, but I just very recently cut layers into my own short curly hair, and I found the tips from Mell’s recent video showing her sister how to cut layers into her hair to be helpful even for me (using the unicorn method of cutting but I used it in the back section only) then going back in on dry hair to perfect the whole new shape! Going from triangle to oval is pretty difficult but I encourage you to try layers little by little! Hope this helps!

I have a question, cause i really want to cut bangs with my curly hair, but i often need to put my hair in a ponytail for work, but isnt it diffucult with bangs? And is it hard to style the bangs in the morning?
my curls are very similar to this person’s, it falls a bit differently though. for me it doesnt get in the way. sometimes i have to bobby pin the parts by my side down but its really not much of an inconvenience.

You are so beautiful I have a question for you I have been brushing my bangs straight to the side and even a part in the middle and the rest of my hair curly but when I tried my bags curly they go all wavy straight and not curly like the rest of my hair why is that I also have bleached platinum hair
Hey Aurora!! Great question. The reason for this is most likely because you have trained your bangs to be straight/wavy instead of it's natural hair texture by constantly brushing them straight and off to the side. This is possible and is most likely the reason why your not seeing the same curl pattern as the rest of your head (not to mention the platinum colour could be also having a damaging effect on your curls). So to fix this I recommend 1) that you use a regular protein mask or treatment in your hair to help give your curls more strength after bleaching and 2) finger coil!!! Train your bangs to be curly again by styling them with finger coiling! You can train them to be curly just like you did train them to be straight! Hey Aurora! 90% of the time the curl enhancer is moisturizing enough not to use a leave-in before it. Assuming you're using the right amount. However, before curl enhancer, I do like to apply for the daily hair repair leave in protein treatment for my blonde. Then I like confixor gel after for extra hold! Hope this helps 😊

yes, that's who bangs tend to look the best on. and its a nice way to conceal the size of the forehead
My issue is that I have a lot of clients that have curly hair and when i tell them I'd prefer to cut their hair dry some look at me like i am crazy and the other half are usually okay with it..but how should I explain to them the reasoning for cutting it dry like I'll try to explain it the best I can but they still don't seem to understand
Ramaya Stowell i mean it’s pretty self explanatory since curls are not genuine in their shape/length when damp and shrink when dry so it wouldn’t be an accurate representation of what the end result would look like

I remember when I was 14 and still straightening my hair, I had my bangs cut like Fefe Dobson’s... It didn’t look as good on me and it’s probably because I also really sucked at straightening my hair.
