Band Director: We're doing a tribute to the band Rush.
Drum Line: Yesssssss!
And the line absolutely killed a very difficult book. Amazing.
Not YES
RUSH.
Cmon man pay attention
The horns got featured plenty too. I would love to have had to wail on this stuff 38 years ago in high school. I would have played in college if I'd had the chance to play Rush!
@@Heavywall70 LoL! I would love to hear the do YES as well ;0)

The "motorcycle" nod to Neil Peart when they hit Limelight just got me.......amazing performance!
When the marching band plays better music then every NFL halftime show for the past 20 years.
SO VERY TRUE !!!
Touche'! This was amazing! Far more impressed with this than any NFL halftime show. Maybe the NFL should book them. :)
YES!! Superbowl half time shows are complete crud !
Spot on🤘🏻!
Showing your body and mimic singing to a pre-recorded track is easy.
What that band did is NOT,
What makes it fitting is that Neil Peart has the best seat in the house and is looking down beaming with pride. Well done OSU band!
I'm a Neil fan but there is no indication he ever believed
You'll note that it took at least a few dozen drummers to substitute for Neil. Nuff said.
@@fzr1000981 You worry to much about it being literal and don't stop to ponder the sentiment.
@CnyAutofreakRacingVideo concern about life after death is healthy and wise
As a band director and a huge fan a Rush for 40 years, I never thought their music could be brought to the field and do it justice. Boy was I wrong. Congratulations to the members and staff of the OSU Marching Band. What a wonderful tribute to Geddy, Alex, and Neil (RIP). This performance had me smiling from ear to ear.
Perfection. 2 of the greatest bands !
Just shared it with a drummer buddy of mine. Pretty sure he’s going to flip out, lol.
Gave me chills
This is insanely beautiful!!!!!
I'm a Rush fan for 40 years and I would have never thought that I would ever see a marching band doing anything like this. I couldn't stand my band teacher in high school and he would have never done anything similar to Rush. This is fantastic and thanks to everyone involved !!!
Who else had a few tears swell up when they formed Neil? The marching was impeccable and total respect to whoever arranged the music and of course to every one of the musicians. Just shows that great music works in any form. Just a beautiful tribute.
It was amazing. It is nice to see that respect for our beloved band. It really impresses me and renews my faith in people. This is respectful admiration for those incredible performers.
As a Canadian, and lifelong fan,i've watched this on my phone, computer and had to cast it on the big screen..weepy every time..so well done and a beautiful tribute!
Got me when they formed his motorcycle trip. Did they really do that? Pure love and honor.
@@NotTheBot yeah you're right. The magnitude of the tribute and respect with the motorcycle really got me too. To those who know the significance of the relationship between Neil and his motorcycle, that was so poignant.
Yeah, the Neil-on-drums and on his motorcycle really got me, too. Not only is their music amazing, but knowing Neil's life story and the fact that he's no more made me really cry.
They spelled out “Rush” the same way it is on the cover of “Rush”, their debut album! That’s love and respect right there is what that is!
They went all out and did a great tribute to Rush! Nothing half assed
I'm Canadian. This warms my heart to the core. I can't imagine the man hours of practice that took to pull off. Time invested in tribute to a great rock band, seemingly more popular south of the border than I ever thought. Props to the Ohio State University Marching Band
Michigan and Ohio have always supported Rush at a truly scary level ! about 1/2 the rockers of northern Michigan will just scoff at you and walk away if you "dis" Rush at all , the other part will beat your ass ! :) haha With Cleveland being the station that started their American "ride" , Ohio will always be a huge part of it too ! Kinda like Kiss and my home town of Cadillac - Ya, that town , with the Parade and 1975 Homecoming CONCERT ( dance ). This was absolutely fantastic ! Great Job to all !
Umm Rush is world renowned dude. They sold out wherever they went…. 🤔
I'm an old Asian woman and I love Rush and Canadians too, nicest people!!
Absolutely Incredible. Massive Rush fan.Kudos to all involved.
SW Michigan,,, love Rush. ❤👍😎🇺🇲🐸

As a Canadian, I can now comfortably admit that Ohio is officially my favourite of the 50 states after seeing this tribute...BRAVO.
Thank you, CANADA!
See if you can get Ontario to top this!
I am NOT an Ohio State fan (Penn State fan). But this is THEE BEST halftime performance by any college ever!!! Thank you Ohio State!!! Incredible!!!!
Agreed.

Remember they use to televise the bands at halftime? Now its just a bunch of blow hards over analyzing the game to death.
I’m also a Nittany Lion and I agree that this is amazing. They call themselves the “best damn band in the land” and they definitely are that here.
Sorry we saved Sesame Street for a night game, this would have been much better scheduled.
Being a Rush fan for 47 years, this was awesome. I have never watched a marching band more intensely, than this one. How in the hell do these band members remember which way to go? Simply incredible!
As a dedicated Rush fan from Toronto, I can honestly say that was one of the most spectacular videos I've ever watched. Absolutely spectacular!! I was clapping and cheering right here in my own house! (weird eh!) What an incredible tribute by the OSU Marching band, to honour Geddy, Alex, and Neil (RIP) in such profound and beautiful way. Bravo!! Bravo!! Ohio ROCKS!! Cleveland ROCKS!!

Yanuri- well, it was the SECOND most spectacular video I've ever watched. This next one is my favorite: czcams.com/video/_KLuYXT6QMU/video.html (and I was there in person that night to enjoy it.) Cheers! Love live Peart.
@@Schlick Amen brother! The response from the audience at the word "Toronto" said it all! You are a lucky star to have witnessed that moment in person. Long live Peart! Cheers!
Without WMMS in Cleveland as their major push in the Midwest, I'm not sure it would have happened. But push they did and Ohio was Rush's true beginning in the States, about 1975.
As a Canadian. This brings tears to my eyes how far and wide their music was loved. ROCK ON.
Canada, we love you!
As a lifelong RUSH fan this brings me great joy. 🤘
Well, it was in Cleveland where their American career first took off, so an Ohio school honoring them works. Fitting that it’s the best Ohio marching band giving them an honorable tribute.
@@stantheman9072 You are sooo correct!!! My man...La Villa Strangiato

Possibly the greatest halftime show of all time
I'm a double Masters degree holder in Music, education & Performance. Went to a very good school with a very good faculty for Band, orchestra & Etc. My gosh the work these kids have done. Utterly awesome. Heart in my throat. How proud the Professor would have been. This is why RUSH will live forever.

I'm partial to Prince at the Super Bowl 2007. He demanded that it be really f^%king loud. It was.
No fancy lasers, no hanging on a rope flying into the stadium, no sky-high amprows, no drones and super troupers in Coca Cola coulors. There s no hydraulic stage, no woman in very short dresses, no helicopters and no overpaid superstar.
There's no backup and computers taking over if singer's miss the song tune. No safety net
But there's hours of practice. There's real heartfelt respect.
Perfection in honour of Neil Peart. The finest that they could deliver.
And boy, how they delivered. I like the idea, that Mr Peart would have loved it.
Of course not visible for them, if he were there.
He would be in the last lane, hidden from the crowd, with a Basecap, smiling and a cigarette.
From there he might have had smiled.
He wasn't the one who liked so much attention, but he had an understanding of mastery.
That's what we see here. Masters in their own field, lifting their hats in respect
Just stunning and very touching. 👍
Bawled like a child at this tribute. How could you not get emotional as they pay tribute to Neil Peart on his bike and on the drums. Perfectly done.
Imagine being a Rush fan in the crowd and not knowing this was gonna happen
I thought the same thing! What an absolute treat
Or being a member of the band and a Rush fan, when they said they were going to do this.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
And crying like a fool in front of God & everybody.
I was there. Rush has always been my favorite band, so my jaw was on the floor when they announced a tribute to Rush and Neil. I was sobbing like a baby by the end.
That wasn’t just a tribute. That was pure honor! They did justice to the fans, the music, and the band!

Yes, I’m not either. 🖤🎶
I did when I saw the motorcycle

I am a Rush fan AND an OSU alumna! Thrilled to see them continually raise their bar of perfection. Prog rock is no easy genre to emulate with a marching band. I'm still in shock, cried like a baby the day I heard Neil left us.
It's amazing how this evokes true heartfelt emotions that reflects the intelligence of Rush fans! This moved soooo many people because of the authenticity of these musical geniuses. Rip Neil. The fact that a college paid homage to Rush is in itself a honor. I work at a university in the Northeast, definitely not the size of OSU but all you hear is rap or electronic music. The Geddy Lee and Alex Leifson would be touched at such an honor. Neil Peart gave his thumbs up from above. Awesome job.

As a graduate of OSU and a lifelong Buckeyes fan, I have watched this band for over 50 years. Nothing they do surprises me ... but they have impressed me time and time again. This show was no exception. Hey NFL: instead of the schlock you usually present for the Super Bowl halftime show, just have the Pride of the Buckeyes show up and do this. Who's with me?

In 1974, Donna Halper, a music director and DJ at rock station WMMS in Cleveland, Ohio. She added "Working Man" to the station's regular playlist and the song's blue-collar theme resonated with hard rock fans in the predominantly working class city. 🤘
It's one thing to learn an instrument well enough to be in a band like this; it's another thing to learn to march in sync with everyone else and keep accurate time as you do it.

And just like that, I'm an Ohio State fan. Let's go Buckeyes!
Amen
Hell yeah!!!
Right!!
I’m in. Go Buckeyes!
As an IU grad, I am predisposed to dislike all things OSU. This was a stunning, brilliant performance, both musically and choreographically. I am an OSU fan today.
OSU band fan. Don't get carried away. :) Go Blue!
@@mitchellfolbe8729 Ohio State by 30, coming soon ;)
We are ALL OSU fans today. Totally amazing.
IU here too! This made me cry!
If you've ever been in a marching band, you KNOW how difficult everything you just watched is! Including OhiO Impressive!
I’m SEC-born and bred (UGA, you can thank us for Justin Fields). This is an amazing performance by an outstanding band. H/T to the BDBITL!
I'm not crying. You're crying.
Geddy and Alex should see this. It will probably bring a few tears to their eyes, remembering their dear departed friend. Rush has always been my favorite band of all time. I love everything they ever did. I could sit and listen to their music for hours on end, and never get bored. So, if anyone can send this to them, I,think they will appreciate it.
They've already got it posted on their Insta. Was how I was made aware of it.
It would gave been great if Ohio State invite Geddy, Alex and Neil's widow to be at that game.
Their comment was, "we're speechless "
52 year old Rush fan moved to tears. Totally awesome!
Best half-time show EVER!!! I hope all members of Rush see this, especially Neil. Thank you The Ohio State Marching Band!
That was awesome , I'm a Michigan fan , but I Must respect the band....nice job folks you did the trio justice ...
Humility, even in NCAA rivalries, is a gift! Coming from a UCLA Bruin who has respect for a USC marching band that was featured on Fleetwood Mac's Double Album, Tusk!
Wow what a stunning tribute to the boys. We wouldn't have dreamed this to be possible 20 years ago, its crazy how far Rush has come into the mainstream in the last decade alone. Off of the sidelines and into the Limelight🇨🇦🍻
In 1996,I said to myself, the WORLD will know about Rush... After following them since 1975,I ate slept dreamed Rush.
@@kennyplay5982 Been with em since 1990 personally. To me Rush is the standard by which all other music is judged .
Progressive Rock isn't meant to be understood until the composers/performers are long gone. It is today's "classical" music. If you look at pop music today, it's all pretty shallow and meaningless. Rewind to the 70's and indulge in some Yes, ELP, Rush, Genesis, KingC, Pink Floyd.....their works will last forever!!
I have followed them since 1973 high school dances to performances at the “Summer Gardens” in Port Dover Ontario, when they were starting out. I just liked their music. Some “catchy tunes". I liked the way their live concerts sounded like their albums. It was not until later years, as I got older that I really understood it all, and really appreciated their skills. When I was younger I really never thought that they were only a trio because I didn’t know what a trio was supposed to sound like. Just three guys playing good tunes. Ohio State did a fantastic job with this tribute, and the skills they have. A proud 🇨🇦
Without compromising either .
They should make a documentary on how they do this. The music is hard enough, but the choreography is top notch! How the heck do they do it!?
I was a drummer in high school and I will tell you it takes hundreds of hours of practice to play the music and make sure youre in the right place at the right time. This is crazy what they did.. Im sure hundreds of hrs of practice.. Well done Buckeyes !
I had a friend who was a ‘band nerd.’ However, where I grew up, the high school band was untouchable. From televised parades, performing for a sitting President, to the World Series. At every single competition, all of the other bands had hired professionals to help each section. Some of those bands were excellent, because of it.
However, my friend told me that all they had in my school, was one director. He designed the field shows, band/attached units, drill team and tall flags, walked with them during all of the parades, including Hollywood Xmas parade, which is 5-6 miles long. That dude was an animal and put our town on the map.
But this performance? It’s beyond perfection.
Drumline barely scratched the surface. It takes forever to get everyone to do it perfectly
It is not regarding this specific show, but there is a documentary about The Ohio State Marching Band. It's called TBDBITL 141. Highly recommend!
I'm a huge Rush fan and loved this but I've got to say, what they do in the end was truly amazing!
This was absolutely incredible, so my hat's off to whoever arranged the music and to the entire Ohio State University Marching Band. Outstanding!!
Timing, precision and feel just like Rush - wonderful stuff - loved the professor on the motorbike part!
Would love to see Geddy and Alex's reaction to this
The tweeted, “we’re speechless”
The Superbowl halftime show organizers need to watch this and learn what a real half time show is. Simply amazing!
Fortunate to see 68 Rush shows. First in Reno Nov. 1977, last was The Forum Aug 2015........This was beautiful.......Tears of joy!.......Thank you so much.
