  • Here I'm working on a Joker themed boombox showing how I achieved a high gloss using water based polyurethane.
Crystalac is my go to poly because of its low VOC which allows me to use it indoors. I can achieve a high gloss with just 3 coats. More is better in case you need to wet sand to get closer to that mirror like finish.
This is just my experience with the product. Has been nothing but positive and forgiving to the novice woodworker (me). I'm definitely a fan for life.
Used Crystalac Craftnique Stand and Gel Sapphire (3 coats), sanding in between. Used their Sanding Sealer BEFORE the Wood Grain Filler. Top Coat was the Brite Tone Gloss (3 coats). I did not spray any of the coats. Disposable foam brushed worked fine for me.
I waited 2 weeks before I wet sanded with 500 grit (first quick pass). Then wet sanded with 1000 grit using a small rectangular eraser you see in Elementary school. Circular motions. Wiping in between to verify uniform haziness throughout. Finish with 2000 BUT I used my cheap Harbor Freight sander...big mistake. Rule is; if you notice ANY scratches, they will POP after you buff.
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze and drill polishing pad is what I used to buff it out with.

So you go from showing the products to the final result but don't actually show ANY of those steps :-(
