  • Hey guys. We are really getting low on firewood and it is only early March. The wood that the neighbor and I got a few weeks ago is basically gone. Up here in Canada, there is still plenty of winter around right in to April or later and a good wood supply is always needed.

We hope that the weather will be milder and that the sun will warm up a little. It´s hard work to burn wood. Hugs. Britt o Gunnar.

Keep warm, Dennis. House looks so lovely in that environment. Belated Happy Birthday to Kassie. Cannot believe it's been 9 years.

Mother Nature can be mean and pull a fast one.
After this year now you know to have too much wood and not enough.
Maybe when the snow is all gone, every couple of weeks cut wood and get it prepared for Winter so you don’t have to scramble for wood.

From what I have learned in life, country or rural living is not for the faint of heart. Unexpected developments come when least expected such as: hawk, snakes, predators killing your chickens, car problems in cold weather, shortages in the pantry, even supplies of wood for woodburning stoves. Leaking roofs are another thing to watch for. Wells occasionally go bad too! Pumps can get clogged, or varmints somehow get into the well water. Always something to deal with and learn from. It makes you very strong in so many ways.

There were many challenges in the city, too. You are right about car troubles and shortages but you cannot put a price on the rest of how life is up here. I once had an argument with our first neighbor about our dog and was so close to fist fighting. The other neighbor poisoned our raspberry bushes because one branch was sticking through the fence. Then eventually we ignored them and they ignored us. Wouldn't ever go back unless in a box.

I understand that! Was so happy for you when you found your land and new home. How rewarding it will be in so many ways. For your beloved pets as well!

Oh Dear, I did not know that you had so horrible bad Neighburs, poison your Berries its dangerous. You should complain against them at the police. Now I understand why you wanted to leave the City.

Rural life isn’t easy. Rule of thumb….8-10 cords per year bare minimum. Chopping wood for a living is a young man’s game and back lol

We would never need 8 to 10 cords but 5 maybe. Never can have enough, though.

Would be nice if a woodchuck would chuck wood! 😊 Best greetings from Bavaria. I hope we‘ll have springtime weather in a week or two!

It is getting critical indeed. Hopefully the weather will get a bit warmer as well for you. Here we had relative warm temperatures for the time of the year, and a little sunshine too, which always helps a lot to reduce the energy costs. And the garden is coming to life very early this year. 👍

The weather will turn for the better for the next week but up here, we can still get very cold on and off till May.

Hoping things warm up for you. It has been really weird as we have had a late winter - snowed here in Vancouver just a few days ago (Tuesday).
At least you now will have a good “worst case” estimate for your firewood needs for next year. They are already calling for a bad winter 25/26 😮

Yeah you have long sometimes brutal winters in the Great White North ! Hopefully you wont have to do all that back breaking work to get more wood. 😊

I went and seen the firewood guy that I bought from last year and he has lots. I don't really want to take all the time it would and lifting everything out of the forest, so will get a cord from him next week.
