Hrabalka pocestní je velký druh samotářské vosy náležící do řádu blanokřídlých.
Popis
Délka těla: 10 - 14 mm
Hlava a hruď jsou černé. Propodeum je spojeno s hrudí a jsou na něm vztyčené černé chlupy. První tři články zadečku jsou červené s černými zadními okraji a zbytek je černý.
Výskyt
Většina Evropy.
Žije na teplých slunných místech, například na písčitých lesních cestách, pasekách, opuštěných lesních pískovnách apod.
Vyskytuje se na hlinitopísčitých půdách, v nichž se samička vyhrabává chodbičky.
Brzy zjara se objevuje na kvetoucích jívách.
Život
Přezimuje jako dospělec v hlubokém doupěti. To umožňuje, aby se objevila a stala se aktivní dříve v roce než jiné příbuzné druhy.
Dospělý jedinec se živí nektarem z květů. Vosy tohoto druhu převážně loví pavouky z čeledi Lycosidae, Gnaphosidae, Agelenidae, Thomisidae a Salticidae.
V písku si vyhrabává hrabalka díry s komůrkou, do které poté nanosí pavouky. I velké pavouky omráčí žihadlem a nehybnou oběť dopraví do hnízda. Na kořist položí vajíčko a vylíhlá larva se živí těly omráčených pavouků, kteří žijí ještě měsíc, ale nemají schopnost se pohnout.
Z vajíček se líhnou beznohé larvy, které se po určité době zakuklí, a z kukly se zanedlouho líhne dospělec.

Anoplius viaticus, commonly known as the black-banded spider wasp, is a large species of spider-hunting wasp.
Description
Length: 10 - 14 mm (0.55 in)
The head and thorax are black and the propodeum is fused to the thorax and bears erect black hairs.
The first three terga of the abdomen are red with black rear margins and the remainder of the abdomen is black.
Distribution
This species is found in sandy heathland across most of Europe.
It lives in warm sunny places, such as sandy forest paths, clearings, abandoned forest sand pits, etc.
In early spring it appears on flowering jiva.
Life
Anoplius viaticus is unusual in that it overwinters as an adult, hibernating in a deep burrow. This enables it to emerge and become active earlier in the year than other related species. In southern England, it is on the wing from March onwards.
Adult A. viaticus feed on nectar from flowers. Wasps in this species predominantly prey on spiders from the wolf spider family Lycosidae, but they also take ground spiders (Gnaphosidae), grass spiders (Agelenidae), crab spiders (Thomisidae) and jumping spiders (Salticidae).
These wasps are known as spider wasps because the females capture spiders to provide their offspring with food. The paralysed spider is cached in a burrow, the wasp lays an egg on it, and when this hatches, the developing wasp larva consumes the spider.
The female A. viaticus searches for a suitable spider with which to provision its nest. The spider is injected with venom to paralyse it and is dragged back to the chosen nesting location. The wasp puts the spider down and digs a shallow burrow. The spider is then dragged into the burrow, the wasp lays an egg on its still-living body and plugs the burrow with soil. Further similar single cell nests are excavated and provisioned, usually in close proximity to the first.
