Record companies don’t always get it right and in the case of Haley Reinhart, that was definitely the case.
Haley competed on season 10 of American Idol finishing at a respectable third place and receiving a record deal with Interscope. She released her debut album under the label and it received critical acclaim.
The label ended up dropping her shortly after due to management changes but Haley didn’t let that stop her. She continued to make her own music and in 2015 she rose to prominence with her collaboration with Postmodern Jukebox for her jazz cover of “Creep”.
The song made it to the Billboard Jazz Digital Songs chart and remained there for 58 consecutive weeks. She followed that up with a cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” which reached number 16 on the Adult Contemporary chart and went on to be certified platinum.
Haley has continued to release multiple Billboard charting singles and toured in support of her albums. She also is soon to make her acting debut on a Netflix film called We Can Be Heroes.
Today I’ll be reacting to my first look at her infamous “Creep” cover which has garnered over 70 million views. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. Make sure to tell me what you thought!

#PostModernJukebox #Creep #VocalCoachReaction #KenTamplin - Hudba
Interestingly, according to Scott Bradlee, she was coming there from another gig and running late. She didn't even warm up, did this in one take!
Wow!
@@kentamplin This was recorded during Postmodern Jukebox's first European tour at a studio in Zurich on a day off. They also recorded a group version of "All About That Bass" that features Haley, Casey Abrams, Morgan James, and Ariana Savalas.
PMJ had recorded both of those songs previously with different artists. It was a good call to rerecord them (probably to keep to the release schedule) because they are now the top 2 videos on their channel in terms of views.
PMJ performed "Creep" on the short-lived Josh Wolf show. Haley was running late to it because she got caught in LA traffic. Josh later told Haley in a podcast that she and Jewell were the only singers who didn't lip synch on his show. "Creep" on JWS: czcams.com/video/JssetZXWLJs/video.html
@@kentamplin Yeah, not true. Haley just joined PMJ in Berlin on their European Tour (her first time touring post Idol), she wasn't performing w/ anyone else. They recorded Creep, All About That Bass and one other song on their day off in Zurich, Switzerland, she was under the weather, this performance was purportedly a one take. Scott tells the story when he guests w/ Haley that Haley wanted to do another take, but Scott said that was the one.
Scott had the idea to re-record "Creep" with Haley based on her performance of it for the first time in Lyon, France. At the time she had only recorded one song w/ PMJ ("Habits") but wanted to do another song for the show, she requested to sing their arrangement of Creep.... Here's the video that convinced Scott...(*Note* this was before the 70 million view video, notice how silent the audience is throughout, bursting into applause at the end. This was Haley's first time performing it: czcams.com/video/4J7AGfLN67g/video.html
Haley meeting with PMJ rocketed both of them into the stratosphere w/ "Creep". Another fun fact, this was the first time Scott Bradlee, PMJ's founder (piano player), re-recorded an arrangement he'd already recorded w/ another singer.
I have live Haley performances since 2012 on my channel if you want to hear her live.
Here's my video from Haley's first appearance at the Troubadour in 2015, where Scott Bradlee tells the "Creep" story... czcams.com/video/aD-yP_WmzaQ/video.html
One take? That's amazing....
Business Outside The Lines - w/Chuck Peavey
Really. My god! One take?
She is fantastic.
This song reminds of memories that I don't even have
Hahaha!
I know exactly what you mean
GREAT comment!!!
6:21 I almost lost it when you paused in the middle of that AWESOME note she was about to hold for several bars, then arpeggiate flourishes over THREE separate chords without a single break!
😊
Yeah I broke my remote when he did that. Tv is ok.
Same here.
Same.
She's one of the most *underrated gems* in the business. She deserves huge success and a huge audience. _But hey, maybe we're all "very special" that can hear (and see) that.... xD_ And PMJ have made some EPIC covers in their own unique way, with absolutely *brilliant* solists!
😊
@@kentamplin And I don't need to mention your great voice and academy project xD Like!
She is underrated only because until now, she has refused to sign a record deal. Hence, she is criminally underexposed, but I have my fingers crossed that hopefully, she will eventually take the plunge.
12,3 million of those views are me. I can't get enough of her voice.
It's very cool, TheDryparn!
I think 400 of those views are from me, and I just discovered this 3 days ago.
I first heard this at my brother-in-law's wedding reception. There was a whole playlist of PMJ that played softly in the background while everyone ate, before the DJ kicked the dancing off. It gave the whole affair the feel of an upscale cocktail party, and I recognized the lyrics to All About That Bass and was like 'WTF?!" So this was the second song, and I made my husband go up and ask the DJ what this was. After that, we were fans! Love this!
PMJ does various artists doing various songs in the style of the 20's, 30's and 40's They are AMAZING!
Her voice literally brings tears to my eyes. I just love he voice!
She sang this beautifully, Mark!
She probably was not willing to sell her soul !! She took another path !!! God Bless her !
Rock on! 🎤💗
I've seen Creep covered by so many artists. Not an easy song to sing, involves alot of emotion. She did very well with this jazz version. Can't go wrong with 70M views!
She sure did!
Haley is a gem!!! The founder and genius behind PMJ is Scott Bradlee (Composer/Arranger/Pianist) They have 4.45 million subs on CZcams/over a BILLION views of their material
They tour the WORLD yearly with an ever changing cast of performers
PLEASE react to PMJ Morgan James "MAPS| (Maroon 5)
Awesome! Thanks for the info, Eddie Trunk!!!
@@kentamplin Morgan James for sure
@@kentamplin I second Morgan James' Maps
Wicked jazz action !!
I'm glad you gave Halley a good rap. Otherwise I would have had to give you bad one! I only just discovered her through PMJB and died when I heard her sing CREEP. It sent shivers up my spine when she that..... she moved me that much.
Done in ONE take! Unreal! Black hole Sun and no doubts don't speak
She's really good, I love her duet with Puddles Pity Party and Post Modern Jukebox, "Mad World" It's sooooo good!
She's terrific!
It’s the perfect song for what is happening to the world right now. It is perfection.
I’ve been listening to her since Idol. I too don’t understand why she’s not on the charts more
She is ridiculously talented and not afraid to try everything and does it so well. She’s in control of her instrument.
Haley is fantastic!
I love that jazz ❤❤❤❤ Haley it is really cool 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎤🎶🎵🎼 and thank you Haley 💕💕💕💕
I watch it years ago when it first came out, I knew then she was special!! I wish all the luck in the world to her.
Nice! Thanks, Brian!
Wow... Hadn't heard this young lady, and this piece... Love this transformation into a truly soulful jazz cover. I'm a fan.
😀
I've known about Haley and PMJ for years now but this is the first time I'm watching this reaction video. She's mesmerising. One of the best singers I've ever heard. You're right when you mentioned how unbelievable it is that her record label dropped her and she has a cover song worth 70+mil views.
She could blow away most of the major pop stars out there right now and is probably more deserving.
Haley is great!
If they were trying to make it sound like all the decades you spoke about, they'd have did it, She song this song as if she was trapped in time, that moment! Right ON HALEY!!!!
I cannot carry a tune in a bucket but I know good music and singers when I hear it. I have followed Haley for years and now I will be following you, too. I'm a sucker for a great smile and an upbeat personality...
Haley is great!
I love how they turned this depressing self-loathing anthem into a reverse psychological seduction. It's like...yes yes you are a creep. You poor thing, come here let me take care of you. LOL
😊
😅🤣🤭🥴
😂😂😂right the lyric is depressive but it sounds Secy
2 things: PMJ needs there own SiriusXM station and Haley Reinhart should be singing the theme to a James Bond film
She sure does!
I have watched her cover for like a hundred several times already but I am still getting chills and shivers when I hear her. Am so pissed that she's not getting the credit and attention she deserves. I also really love her cover of Can't help falling in love
She's very talented and interesting.
Ken always has a way of showcasing artist from across the spectrum
😊
Haley is pure talent... Love that you can see that in her. She is extremely underrated.
Rock on!
Absolutely Agree
My mum and I love this cover, she even has it saved to her Spotify playlist. Great video as always, man.
Very cool rendition!
Haley is phenomenal. She's my biggest inspiration as a singer. Gotta love her.
😀
36.3% of that 70M is me listening to it at work.
PMJ comprise most of my playlist.
😀
Ken brutha, you have layers upon layers of guidance to offer. So much more than just vocal coaching. You are also a great "Listening Coach" I hear so much more now, having watched your videos. Thanks man, your channel is a drop of purity in a sea of fog. For real!!
Thanks for the kind words, mlnem2k!
I love Haley and I love PMJ. I think her biggest problem is that she, herself, doesn't know what she wants to sing. Her 3 albums are all over the place. I have loved her since Idol, but it's hard to develop a new, bigger fan base when you can't be categorized. I kinda like not knowing what you're gonna get next, but not many feel that way.
Why be pigeonholed? I like variety.
Fleewood MAC was categorized as jazz!
@@kentamplin I think that record company put her in a pop hole and that hid her real talent. I saw the same thing with Janet Devlin who sounded very uncomfortable and lost on her records after the X-factor, her style couldn't shine through the mainstream pop.
Haley knew she might only get one chance to produce an album and exerted herself. The NYT called her debut album "convincing and fresh." The LA Times described it as "a gamble" and noted "carefully crafted pop hits are traded in for depth... There are no disposable pop beats... Instead piano lines, horns and bright Motown-inspired dance-pop move the disc."
The good thing is she had co-writing credit on 13 of the 14 songs. They didn't get radio play, but they did generate royalties from being used in commercials, a movie, and as piped music. That was enough for her music publisher to back the production of her second album.
Her third album was released through Concord Music Group. It was mostly covers from the mid-to-late 1960s recorded using vintage instruments and tape. It's something of an homage to the repertoire of her parents' band and she included them in the making of it.
Her 4th album came out last year and was a completely independent production. Yes, it exhibits a lot of variety within its 13 songs. "Honey there's the door" is the song that would likely become a pop hit if it had exposure.
One of the best reactions I've seen yet. Extremely knowledgeable, and personable, too.
Appreciate that, David!
Your commentary on the "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" approach to today's artists is my response in a nutshell when people have asked me why I'm "not famous" yet...and why so many of these incredible artists like Haley rarely get more than a cult following...so glad she and some others are finally getting their chance now but sad it took so long I've loved her for years...thanks for covering and for the insight ❤️
When she was singing the “She’s about to run” part a couple of times, it kind of reminded me of Jeff Buckley’s fast vibrato in some of his songs.
metalmilitia890 👍
Haley is so under rated. Phenomenal!! She does some great tunes with Casey Abrams (he was also a contestant on one of the signing shows.
😊😊😊
Casey was the same year as she. She was third behind Lauren Alaina and winner Scotty McCreery. THAT was a good year to watch. Seeing the recap of it, seemed pretty clear that one and maybe two of the judges (Randy Jackson and J-Lo) had it in for her. Only Steve Tyler was blown away every time.
Awesome Reaction Ken! I would have never thought that Creep could be done in that style! I just totally love covering this song ! in every live show i do here on the internet! I really rock it out .. but really loved this version of the song! Totally cool man :)
It's a very cool rendition.
Have always Loved Haley on Idol & have watched this clip about 50 times!!!!!
👍
Really beautiful voice!! She's an amazing singer, cool video Ken, thumbs up!! 👍👍👏👏🙏
Awesome, Omar.
I love Postmodern Jukebox - they're so creative! Glad you're covering some. :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Carrie!
She’s so creative and that range 😮
😀
So happy you finally reacted to this :)
😊
perfect voice perfect movements. and band is bang on. her seven nation army is just as good.
Yes indeed! Love Haley!
Post modern jukebox has some insane vocalists, their renditions of zombie, mmmbop, and ed sheerans perfect are mind blowing.
They really so!
I LOVED this video since my first viewing. I actually watch video at least five times a week. But of course, the most amazing part, this was the FIRST and ONLY take to create video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, chazboy61able!
Haley could sing the damn phone book and it would sound amazing. If you've seen her Idol run, she showed she could sing _anything_ and have it sound great. And good God almighty is her voice sexy!
Thank you!
@@kentamplin I'd particularly recommend her rendition of 'House of the Rising Sun'. The live version sounds even better than the studio cut.
She also does a great version of Black Hole Sun with PMJ and there is a great video of her singing with Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra that's just winderful.
😄
She sounds awesome ! Thank you Ken 💚💯
I'm glad you liked it, Loretta!
PMJ proves jazz can be popular on YT. Good to see.
They're so good.
Haley and PPP singing Mad World for Post Modern Jukebox is amazing.
Indeed!
Love Singing this Song in different Versions 💃🏼🎧🤘

Great Ken! I'm so happy that I found you! I absolutely love Haley. There isn't a sexier, smarter, or talented singer out there!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Robert!
This song, and her singing Seven Nation Army with PMJ, shows me she has an old soul. Something you don't really hear nowadays. I love it.
👍
Hi Mr. Ken, the best cover from them, by my opinion, is definitely Dream On! Waiting on video... 😎🤘Cheers
😊
Awesome and informative reaction video. Love Haley!
Glad you enjoyed!
Post Modern Jukebox is cool they have great jazz and Blues singer Haley is great

I truly enjoy watching your Videos MrTamplin . It is great to watch someone get excited about there craft ( talking about adding the horns during this video) and just truly seeing your passion about music, keep it up !!!

Thank you so much 😀
@@kentamplin you welcome 😀
Haley deserves so much more attention. Thanks for reacting to her.
My pleasure. 😊
It was different.
But I must say I loved it. Loved her GRRRRRRRRS 😉 AWESOME
It was!
*Haley's performance is even more impressive when you realize she did this on her day off and basically in one take*
*and here cover of Seven Nation Army is requires at least a pack of cigarettes to finish...and i don't even smoke*

Awesome Reaction Ken!!!!! Nice Yoy the BEST!!!!!
😊
Post Modern Jukebox is favorite things on youtube.
😀
Love her. She is phenomenal. Go Hailey!
Vanessa Wall 👍
React to Haley singing "Oops I did it again" or "Lovefool". IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!
Thank you!
I love Post Modern Jukebox. Good stuff!!!
My neice who's trained in opera singing, has performed with Puddles Pity Party, the clown that has done some Postmodern Jukebox.
Cool!
Mmm. That was one killer performance! All through the song I was catching myself imagine a nightclub scene in the late 20s where she sign in a sleek dress and Louis Armstrong plays the trumpet right beside her. She absolutely nailed this. Ken, you are absolutely right about the label. It is wrong in so many levels of how the new upcoming artists are treated these days. It's all about sales, they care about only one thing: How to milk out every cent then dispose of whats left.
Andrea B 👍
From Washington Missouri
i really like how your style of reaction. you are actually reacting and commenting throughout
😀
Scott Bradlee (the piano player in this vid) is the creative force behind PMJ, his arrangements are excellent!
Thank you!
@@kentamplin Always fun and informative, thanks Ken!
UAU !!! Awesome!
WilA ** 👍
Rally good, I didn't know her...Thank you Ken!
You're welcome, Marco!
Ken, I LOVED your reaction...you show super musical knowledge and I'm truly impressed !!
There's another group (Pentatonix) that won an Acapella competition on a TV Show called Sing Off (2011), and got a $200K contract with Sony and then was drop after one week !! A big back story to them, but they regrouped and today their CZcams channel has well over 18 MILLION subscribers and more than 7.5 BILLION views of their 400+ videos. They've won 3 Grammys, several platinum albums, 4 sold-out world tours. Have you ever done any reactions to their music because I would love to hear your views.
GREAT JOB !!
BTW...you remind me so much (looks and voice) of Steven Tyler (lol) !!
Thank you, Nick.
A bar/restaurant just down the road from my house plays this, apparently it’s on Pandora or something of that nature. Very cool covers such as this and Welcome To The Jungle and loads more. Sitting there sipping a beer or a single malt scotch and listening to this is kind of like going back in time.
It's nice to hear different renditions.
For sure! Now just gimme some Metallica, preferably off the first four albums 👍
Awesome reaction!
Glad you enjoyed😄
They did this in one take . Wow!
Cool, Charlie!
Hi Ken, really enjoyed your review of this video. I've been a long time follower of Haley's since her Idol season and I'd like to address your thoughts about the music business. To me, every artist has their own path to follow. The 'dream', the template to any outsider is to 'sign a major deal', most people not understanding that the advance artists get was for all intents and purposes a loan to kick start their career w/ the label. That's where Haley was wounded for quite a while after Insterscope until she met up w/ PMJ. They had given her an advance to put together a band, readied to tour and she was suddenly dropped, no opportunity to build her brand, promote her debut album, let alone to pay back their advance. She "disappeared" for a couple years until PMJ.
Having witnessed Haley's 'Journey' since Idol, I couldn't help but see it in the context of Campbell's "Hero's Journey". Although it was a terrible thing at the time, being unceremoniously released w/ a debt and having to realize if she was going to 'make it' it'd have to be by her own doing. I think the Interscope situation HAD to happen in her tale, it was the 'inciting' moment, the 'call to arms' in Haley's Hero's Journey, How badly do you really want this?
Yes, Interscope treated her poorly, but to be honest, the Music Industry template is broken and really helps the business more than the artist. She'd be just feeding into the industry and not going out and learning who she really is as an artist. In 2012, it was the worst thing to happen to her, in hindsight, it was actually the best thing that could've happened to her. It forced her to find her own voice, find her confidence and forced her to take control of her career.
We in the fan base had a nick name for Haley, in reference to Buffy, we called her "The Slayer", over coming the odds against her. She continues that tale with every accomplishment, a true "Hero's Journey"
Thanks for the great revew and reaction, this still gives me goosebumps even five years later, Cheers!
Thanks for sharing that with us, Haley's Tusk!
@Haleystusk, With all due disrespect, Mr. Tusk, your sob story is simply not true at all. Haley never had to repay back any advances or anything else back to Interscope, for that matter. As Interscope failed to keep their end of the bargain.
In fact, because Interscope was unable to fulfill their end of the bargain, they also gave Haley all the rights to her music at the same time. Indeed, Interscope tried to let Haley go as gently as they possibly could. You obviously have been watching too many 70s soap operas.
Furthermore, when Haley was released by Interscope it was part of a belt tightening move by the company, as Haley was one of 65 music artists all trimmed simultaneously from Interscope’s roster of music artists at the same time. As Haley wasn’t released cause her album wasn’t viable or cause she was failing. She was released cause when Jimmy Iovine left Interscope for Apple Music, Interscope didn’t have any cash remaining to operate their business. Thus, Interscope had to make the tough decision to trim their roster of music artists.
Now had Haley had any guidance subsequent to Interscope, she could have easily gotten re-signed to another record label almost immediately, but at that time, Haley was still more or less a kid. As she didn’t have the first clue about the music industry. Nonetheless, after Interscope she did a lot of overseas gigs.
Then she began booking some of her own gigs over here in the USA. However, she soon found out the hard way that she still had to give up a share of the proceeds back to her management company anyway. Once she found that out, she started auditioning for various acting roles and did far fewer singing gigs until her management deal finally ended in mid 2014. As her former management company was the same management company that Phillip Phillips sued. Once her contract ended with them, she then started focusing on her singing career again and started booking her own gigs again until she hooked up with PMJ and made PMJ a viral sensation and Scott Bradlee a millionaire.
Again, Haley was released by Interscope, but she wasn’t released with any debt as you ignorantly are assuming. If she had owed Interscope a debt, she never would have been able to afford to lay low until her management deal with her former management company ended in mid 2014. Give me a break. Not to mention that it was Interscope that was unable to fulfill their end of the bargain, not Haley Reinhart.
Meanwhile, getting cut by a record label isn’t the end of the world as you always try to portray it as being. As most music artists have been cut by record labels on numerous occasions. That’s just the nature of the business.
The thing about the music business is exposure, exposure, exposure. Cause without exposure, you are on the fast track to nowhere. Indeed, because of the fear of failure, Haley has been on the fast track to nowhere forever.
Then someday in the not too distant future, she will inevitably start losing her looks and when that inevitability begins to happen, suddenly the gigs are going to progressively get harder and harder to get, until eventually she has to get a real job like everyone else to make ends meet. That’s when she is going to look back on her life and reflect on the stupid decisions she made in her youth.
Music artists are like professional athletes in that they only have a short window of opportunity in which to achieve financial security and financial independence. Cause once it’s over, it’s over.
The Black Dog you obviously didn’t watch this video and what he had to say about the music industry. You’ve been posting and deleting this for years, attacking those who disagree with you I finally had to ban you from my channel for your attacks. I have literally talked to her folks, have you? Give it a rest already...
I agree Ken, as usual you were spot on as the industry goes. Music is being about originality and pure emotion, but the label wants sales and no personality, adaptability to the latest trend that will be gone in a week.
Thanks, Tomas!
Awesome reaction Ken :-)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this song xx
So do I!
I'd like to hear your Jazz cover of this song, because the things you mentioned seems interesting to me. As a Jazz fan, I'm so excited..
Thanks for the suggestion, Curious Questions!
Glad to see you reacted to Haley. She is a special talent.
😊 Thanks for listening!
I have seen these guys live. I am mostly a metal/hard rock guy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the PMJ show!
😊
There's more to the story of why Haley didn't become a house hold name. But you got it right. They signed her, then the label restructured later. But when they 1st signed her they tried to change her style of what made her so popular in the 1st place. She sang rock, blues, jazz and pop songs on Idol that were all up her alley. But I think the bigger problem was her own music she was either writing along with someone or that someone else wrote for her on that 1st album were not what fans and new listeners who heard of about her expected from her. For me I still think she could choose or write songs that reflects what she does so well with her talented voice. I think she doesn't let loose with her own writing or maybe her writing isn't up to speed with her talented voice. I loved most all her performances and song choices on Idol and PMJ but not so much on her own.
Haley wanted a hand in writing her own music, and she has cowriting credit on 13/14 songs on her album (deluxe version). I do wish though her initial songwriting experience had been less industrial.
LARRY LONDON: “How did you come up with the songs on your debut album, because that’s a big decision? 'This is my first album out there, songwriters write 100’s of songs, I got to pick 13', how did you choose those?"
HALEY REINHART: “I was speed dating with these producers writing daily. We would write a song, walk in to the studio, and record it…done. We did 30 of those in not even three months and everybody liked the material. It was quite easy to pick which ones.
It was like, for the last song, ‘I only have room for one more’. That is kind of the tossing and turning golden problem, so I am really lucky that is the way it worked out”.
LARRY LONDON: “You had sung jazz most of your life and there you are on a pop TV show and you are being judged week after week in front of millions of people [weekly average TV Audience 30 million]. I cannot imagine the pressure”.
HALEY REINHART: “There is a lot of pressure. Thankfully, for me, live performing has always been a huge part of my life, my parents being in a band together. I grew up on classic rock, and soul, and jazz so I came into the show, and got to put a mesh of those three things into the songs I chose. So at least I was doing what I wanted to do."
LARRY LONDON: "...Besides all that great stuff what else has happened that is different about you and your outlook on music than it was before the show?”
HALEY REINHART: "As much as I knew who I was before, the show really made me bring that out, and know who I am. Even though I love all these different genres that I have grown up with it, it was a matter of taking all these things and making them all have a complete marriage between them. And now I feel like I have my own sound. I cannot put a stamp or a name on it, but it is definitely a retro yet modern sound."
The New York Times called Haley's debut album "convincing and fresh" and described it as "a taut album full of meaty, thickly arranged pop-soul" with "songs (that) hark back to the 1960s and ’70s, when Motown girl groups were ceding ground to soul-driven rock. It’s singers’ territory that shows off both the smooth power of Ms. Reinhart’s voice and its engine-revving churn."
Haley recently conveyed in a podcast interview that before she was dropped the label wanted to release an Adele-like song as the second single and she wanted to release an Amy Winehouse-like song that was more her. We can assume the songs in question are "Undone" and "Oh My."
Both were called out on a sticker on the CD. Haley's never embraced performing "Undone," a song about a person crushed by heartbreak. Which brings up something that affects her songwriting. Limits it in a way. She has stated she wants to put positive messages out into the world. To offer an escape. She wants to make people feel good and lift them up.
So she's not likely to write songs that convey pain, suffering, anger, outrage. That's just not her. But those are powerful emotions and when combined with her voice could be the foundation of memorable songs.
She did some voice acting too (plays a boy even) in F is for Family from 2015 to 2020. She went independent and released an amazing album called LoFi Soul. I don't think the label knows how to market her, as it's not very common for someone like Haley to come around and even less common to make it big. I think Haley has what it takes though, people just don't know who she is.
Talented lady!
I love Haley and PMJ and this is by far my favourite PMJ song with her in it, followed by Mad World.
She's awesome, Brutus!
Have you ever reacted to elvis presley?
The reason I ask is because elvis's voice was chameleon. It literally changed 5 times in his very very brief career.
50's elvis was a raw punk rocker. The fusion of white country and bluegrass with black blues. Then, in 1960, he's otherworldly on the studio recording of "it's now or never"
The velvet tone of "can't help falling in love".
The falsetto of elvis is so effortless and natural. Then in the late 60"s he covers Bob Dylan's "tomorrow is a long time" and turns it into a six minute folk masterpiece!
Then the soul of "if I can dream" live in 1968.
Then the gritty raw soul of the 69 Memphis sessions.
In 1970, live on stage, he takes :"bridge over troubled water" to heights paul simon never even thought about!
Then in 71 and 72, his voice gets mellow on "always on my mind"
In 1975, his studio recording of "green green grass of home" is a masterpiece.
There's much more to dissect here.
Like 1966's studio recording of "you'll never walk alone"
A towering achievement!
I'd love to hear you react to the changing and otherworldly voice of elvis presley.
I don't recall anyone changing as much in so little time.
Do you?
I have.
You have to check out more of her. She has am awesome cover of seven nation army and black hole sun. Also her live performances are ALWAYS better then anything she has done studio wise!
😊
Beautifull
😊
He said should have changed the horn section and gone more roarin' 20's. I think the point of this version was that they wanted a more Lounge Jazz feel to it. This is my first video from this channel but I kinda dig this guy. Seems like some of my friends lol. Good video. I'll be watching a few more. He's also one of the very few that is a "Vocal coach reacts" channels that has a vocal coach that can actually sing and sound good.
Glad you're here, Destry!
Awesome info Ken! Thank you. Enjoying your videos. Didn't know you like Jazz. Could you please do isolated vocal videos of some female jazz singers. Love to your analysis.
Thanks for the suggesiton, cheryl!
I've seen a few PMJ's. this was pretty cool. I like her voice. thanks Ken. Al
Cursi 👍
Got a chance to see her with the American Idol tour. I think it was the top 10 or 12 from the show that year, but WOW she and one other female (can't recall the name) in my opinion were the highlights of the concert! Amazing!
😊
OH MY God she is awesome the record labels blew it big time.
She IS awesome!
Some one who knows not to let someone else's agenda take her confidence down. Ingenuous.
Good for Haley!
Barbie Girls as 50's doo-wop rock just works. They've done Sweet Child o' Mine as a New Orleans dirge. Yo Diggity and Ganstas Paradise as jazzy songs you'd expect from period pieces that take place in smoke filled night clubs. There's a TON of cross genre mixing of music on their channel, and so much of it is amazing. Not all of it is to *my* taste, but it's still well done.
Indeed!
That was one take.
She walked up to the mic, blew the roof off the set and left.
That's why musicians were a little laid back, they thought they were warming up.
Awesome, Glenn!
You've probably learned that it's not just jazz reimagining. 80's, swing, do woo, everything you can imagine. The lady gaga and Hanson stuff is wild.
Thank you, Jim.
That was different, she has a nice voice, she's a very creative artist. I was just watching this video from Bad Wolves feat Diamante Hear me now, worth checking out.
Thank you, Lori.
