The incredible Haley Reinhart is back in her 8th Postmodern Jukebox video- a stunning orchestral remake of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun." Her voice is truly out of this world.

I wonder if Haley Reinhart ever goes to random unsuspecting karaoke bars for fun and just... fucking murders it, you know?
asking the real questions
Hey if I had that voice, I would do that Lol
yep she does..
That would be cool, but she would have to were a disguise to ugly herself up! I'd notice her a mile away!
well everyone knows her from idols...don't think it will come as a suprise
Not to take anything away from Haley, but the backing musicians are outstanding and you gotta give it up to the arrangers and producers too... but damn, Haley just freakin' nails it EVERY time...
not gonna like your comment because of the perfect number it's at, but count this comment as a like lol
I agree. Scott is an amazing arranger.
lovely arrangement and performance pulling it off
propah team work mate :)
Yes!! I love the intro in the beginning the best!!!
That rasp in her voice is so unique and that jazz growl she uses is always so well utilized!
ripped it hard at the end of the song. had to pick my jaw up off the floor the first time i heard this.... just recently this time too. to hell with american idol. a cancer of our culture that is.... her ,on the other hand, should be a national treasure
And she presumably got it without years of being marinated in whiskey and nicotine.
Bonnie Tyler and Leonard Cohen have the (throat nodules / not really cancer) and (post-whiskey/nicotine) rasp, respectively that you crave. after short circuit 2 - pump up the volume, they both were added to my personal permanent rotation. they are almost dead from old age. give the albums 'secret dreams and forbidden fire' and 'the future', respectively, a listen.
I was trying to explain to my girl why she is my favorite female vocalist and it was exactly this..that rasp is intoxicating
I love it. So very jazz and damned sexy AF. Wish I had that. Damn!
I’m a simple man, I need a 2 hour long personal concert of Haley Reinhardt singing jazz standards to me and me alone. My wife has approved this so it’s not cheating
If a woman wouldn’t approve that, that ain’t a woman that you should be spending the rest of your life with.
Aaaaaaahahahahaha 👍I need a wife like that 🙋🏼♂️
my wife is actually starting to be jealous of her since I watch her videos so often :D
@@sprinke1 we all do. ^^
Damnation, she's so Damned good. Has CDs I hope.
When she hits high notes, i love that she doesn't extend them more than needed. They come to a hard stop. Brilliant.
She's all about perfect control, and it's wildly appreciated. Every note is so calculated and only as showy as the mood requires. Very impressive vocalist.
Like Sinatra....solid notes
So so true! Beautiful!
@@madtiboysen5397
It's all so ingrained in her that "instinctive" is a more appropriate term than "calculated". Whatever. I'm only nit-picking, because I agree with what you're saying overall.
Control
I want Haley to do a Bond movie theme.
MonsterofTheAsylum1 She'd be perfect for that!
oh my lord yes
she or KArise Eden
Look up the video "Haley Reinhart's "Liar" should be a bond song"
I think Skyfall would be a good one. :D I wanna hear her cover that. Haley has such a lovely voice!
She got third in American idol because... well you can’t auto tune something that doesn’t need it. Type of singing that’s dying out, and so sad that it is because there’s so much heart and soul... please keep going!
Singing, music, is not about competition, despite the many competitive shows. If there are two or three outstanding musicians, there are two or three outstanding musicians, why do people have to say who wins, who is best! It isn’t a running race. So you like one more than another. Who should win a painting competition, Rembrandt or Monet? Obviously, it is nonsense. 🇦🇺
@@katehobbs2008 true, but if you can sing, why use auto tune? It’s just sad that the looks computer gains the capital. She has the looks and the talent. That was my point. However, you’re not wrong. Everyone’s gonna hate something “great” and love something “bad”. Opinions are nearly non negotiable. To be ornery in a playful way... Monet. Rembrandt was only good at the Friends theme song... 🤣. Seriously, good point though
Ok. Another American idol should have been #1. Another 3rd was Joshua Ledet 2003
Blame the rise of Autotune and Melodyne on MTV. All MTV turned into was a fashion show and an outlet for people who thought they were talented, but in reality weren’t. Don’t believe me? Watch the best thing MTV ever did and hear for yourself. The Unplugged show was truly awesome and would give viewers the chance to learn which bands had chops and who were nothing more than over promoted mediocre to pure crap. Pearl Jam was one of the good ones. Better yet were Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Aerosmith. One of the worst of the top MTV a bands was Ratt. They could barely play and the singer flat out sucked. The only stand out was Warren DeMartini who was an excellent guitarist. Since I’m old now and had to play covers of those mostly simple structured 1990s era songs. I remind all the young ones who may read this that bands like The Beatles ALL played at the same time, in the same room, and did 20-40 takes per song and the producer chose the best one prior to the invention of multi track recording. One of the best albums ever recorded was done in 1967 on two tape decks synced together with tons of overdubbing, track bouncing, track cutting and splicing. All under the watchful eye of the great Sir George Martin from the BBC. He didn’t even want the job as he was already head of the classical department there back in 1962. Although Paul McCartney wrote for the Bind movie theme. It was Paul who contacted Mr. Martin to work with him back in 1976 on this composition. Martin even share writing credits on this song as he was the one who wrote and arranged all the orchestra parts as well. By this time 24-track recording machines existed and they tied two of those together to have enough tracks. Same thing Queen did around the same time to capture their amazing layers of vocals as well as instruments. I can only hope with all the computerization of music today, bands like the one here will still continue to exist to demonstrate what truly skilled performers, arrangers, recordist, and video editors can do when given the chance.
@@ra3016 lol. even this is pitch-corrected with auto-tune. The robotic auto-tune you hear a lot isn't because those singers can't sing. Even rebecca black could actually sing. Music elitism is so funny in how ironically uneducated it often is.
How is she not a huge star ... looks, style, and a perfect voice
@@theblackdog2399 more like she refuses to be chained down. record labels will want a certain "style" from you. when you and I say style we mean more of how she sings. labels seem more interested in what is being sung, ie they lick you into one genre.
Similar to Australia's Kate Miller Heidke; beyond amazing, and not as famous as she really ought to be.
She doesn't sound like everyone else, so she doesn't get air play.
Because she hasn't 'sold her soul' to a record label.
The masses wouldn't know true talent if it hit them on the head. Just put on the radio. 95% is garbage that all sounds the same. Country is even moreso.
She is a siren in disguise I am entirely enchanted everytime
Oh man, aren't we all. Also, I like your hair. Thought I'd put that out there. It's weird but your style is hella chill
Your Dry Blazer wtf
If she's a siren in disguise, that's a pretty lousy disguise. But, well, I'm a fool; she sure could lure me to my death with that voice and her presence.
her and Morgan James.
Jessica Rabbit. Especially on 7 nation army!
she's like a trumpet, flute, clarinet, saxophone all combined
and a tuba.
don't forget the French horn
L Stern don't forget the triangle!
I want to push all of those buttons and make it sing out!... err uhm on the trumfulclariphone thing or whatever you call it. That's probably weird enough. I'm going to edit the trombone slide part out.
So many modern day female pop, hip-hop, and R&B singers try and fail to achieve a pure jazz singer style of vocal but she truly has mastered it. Forget the fakes, this one is the real deal.
she has more control over her voice than me on my life decisions
Underrated comment.
🤣
That dress is SICK. Everything. Just everything.
I find it rather amusing how she cheerfully sings these apocalyptic dark lyrics.
Chris Cornell has on occasion referred to the duality of the song. "I liken it to Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, where there's a happy veneer over something dark. It's not something I can do on purpose but occasionally it will happen by accident."
That's why I especially like this cover! Her voice is perfect for this song, with it's dark sweetness on some of those low notes.
I think this is what Grunge meant to show. Throwing it at the happy mainstream cheeriness, and giving a "voice" to the darker but oh so real sides off life, embrace it and not be afraid to accept these feelings in oneself.
;)
Vinicius Ferreira da Silva that's how you would sneak in some real shit back in the day.
This video was posted 7 years ago. Is it OK that I’m still listening and making comments? I have loved this lady since American Idol and was so disappointed she didn’t win. She’s much better off because PMJ is the perfect vehicle for her skills. ❤ to all the musicians!
yes sir
@@lougraziano6356 It is more than OK to positively comment on this lady and the band. Wonderful experience. :)
Haley's voice makes me feel like a kid with a crush who smiled at me
id love to hear her do man who sold the world. this is fucking legit.
I'm not crazy about the arrangement but Haley does do a jazz cover of that song. Search: Haley Reinhart, Irvin Mayfield jr & NOJO "The Man Who Sold the World"
Noodle Swage just checked it out. i agree it could use some work but she did not dissapoint. i guess i was hoping it would be a bit more dark like how she did this tune.
heck yes! that would be Amazing! 😊
Me too
Musicians and singers take notes. This is how you do a cover. Don't just imitate. Take the original and make it yours.
EXACTLY, none of this copying and pasting of a classic to dickride to fame
Heh... "notes".
Yeah bro way too many people freak out when you play a song “wrong”
I mean seriously what’s the point of making something that sounds *exactly* like the original. It’s so dead end.
This version of the song still lives rent-free in my head and I am VERY okay with that.
I get that
she just stuns me...and I grew up with Grace, Janis, Etta, Aretha, Gayle...she does it all and makes me shiver...
"No one sings like you anymore." Indeed.
I always wonder if he knew that would essentially become his obituary.
@@theholyduck5520 I was pretty over this song for a long time, but that lyric stings every time I hear it now.
@@imapishard yep.
Here from the future, and it has been given as the title of his last full solo work, of covers in a fairly ironic twist.
Pure class
It's like she is drawing a picture with her voice. So stunning!
Indeed.
17M views and Haley came in 3rd? I'd absolutely line up to see her in concert. The entire thing is just beautiful
Her voice cured all my warts and made me thirty years younger.
Dermatologists hate her...
She turned me into a newt! But her singing is so great that I'm OK with it.
I actually am healing an infected finger by listening to Haley. haha. Hang nail. thanks
hahahhahaha
I’m actually happy Haley didn’t win American Idol. She has tons more freedom to create content for us without the cigar chomping exec getting in her way. Super talented, super creative, and super beautiful is a wonderful winning formula.
Well, there's also the odd fact that a lot of times, the people who come in 2nd or 3rd do better than the winners, which has been going on since Star Search.
I knew I recognized her! Most AI "losers" do ten times better without AI. The only winners that are still doing good is Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia
"By the way, which one's pink?" - Pink Floyd
@@pfoster1666 That is 100% a thing. The winners pump out a ready-made album and fade into obscurity. Second or third places in those trashy 'contests' inevitably get snapped up by, like, real record labels, looking for talent.
She'd be the one smoking the cigar!
This is her eighth recording with PMJ. Just a couple more and Scott will be able to release A Best of Haley Reinhart With PMJ album. Indeed, I'm looking forward to it.
What a great idea!
Agree 1000%
Please make it happen.
+
they could go even bigger and release a few style categorized albums as well:D
She is far, far too talented for any "talent show." I could watch her sing all day long!!!
Hailey is simply the most outstanding singer I have ever come across in the last two decades!❤
Hayley is AMAZING! She's by far my favourite singer from PMJ. I've just discovered PMJ and really enjoying all the tracks.

Haley's voice is made for these kinds of songs. I was sad when she was voted off American Idol... BUT I am pleased to see she is still singing. :)
it seems to me that not always the best singer wins.
How is Hailey not star. She's obviously beautiful with an incredible voice...she's definetely better than some of those we have on the radio now.
Ron Mckee because she is original and the Power Players cant corrupt her..............
She tours.
Bc she hasn’t sold out
Because she does every song the same way.
Pretty sure she's a star whenever she wants to be. ;)
7 years ago.... She is like a good wine 🍷🎩
Her vocal expressions are simply unbelievable ! I have No words that could do her justice
I'm here because of Haley
Why this girl isn't at the top of the charts is a mystery to me. Her voice and talent are supreme!
+Zulkhairee Sulaiman but she has all of that..
+Zulkhairee Sulaiman she's gorgeous and is an insane vocalist who can sing many genres. That's more than 80% of today's artist. Plus she has an awesome personality. but you're right I think luck plays a big role.
+Zulkhairee Sulaiman the only thing with her though is that her music on her albums don't reflect her genuine nature for music. They seem too produced and edited, but the thing is she doesn't need the editing because she's already amazing.
Why would you even attempt to rank something this beautiful with the average, disposable aural clutter at the "top of the charts"? Those songs exist, cosmically speaking, in the hopes that one day Haley Reinhart will cover them.
Her song Free from a few years ago is really good. Remember, she was on Idol back in 2011 (with Casey Abrams who will also appear on here occasionally).
There is a entire production team yes, and they all contribute to the end product. Just face it, Haley and her intuition just lifts each note to a different level. I will never get enough of Haley's voice and her approach to music.❤😊
Whenever I'm down this has been my go to song for a pick me up; put some headphones in, close my eyes, and let the siren's song take me away. Thanks for the past 5+ years of relief, you all truly deserve much more recognition.
I hope Haley gets to sing the theme song to a James Bond movie some day. She'd be perfect.
Cristina sang it with Love me harder, but Haley could sings a "reboxed" of that song! ;)
I think he meant like actually for a movie.
+Tensen01 Yes, like Sky Fall, a good idea! ^_^
+Tensen01 Yes, I meant a new song for a new movie.
+Rick Okaaaaaaay! I didn't understand!
Haley is my favorite!!! I listen to Creep cover and Seven Nation Army cover all the time! ❤️❤️❤️
And i am a fan of your channel! Your how to eyeliner for your shape video changed my liner game and i am so grateful for it! Lol
same! and I always watch her gum commercial 💖
Her Creep is my favorite! I did a lyric video of it to Maleficent scenes a while back. Haley is pretty much the queen of PMJ!
Haley has her own music too that is so amazing. You should check out her new album Better. And she is on tour right now. Hearing that voice live is seriously an experience I think everyone needs to have.
+Sarah Filipe Yeah, I already have her music as well :)
Listening to this is a magical experience that everyone should experience.
She's a goddess!
Her vocals on "seven nation army" should be required listening at institutions of higher learning all across the globe.
I bet nobody can make a grunge classic sound like an emotional jazz song.
Haley: hold my beer!
Try Paul Anka's version - pretty good too!
More like hold my Gin and Tonic.
also stella starlight trio's version
Plus Scott Bradlee's arrangements!

A good suggestion. I'd forgotten he existed, and when I was aware of him in th e60's I loathed Diana so much that I never listened to him any more. However, he's a very much changed singer since that age ago, and his version is very good, the next best cover to Haley's for me.
I love the way she belts out "Black Hole Sun, Black Hole Sun, Black Hole Sun" toward the end of the song...she nails it, and she seems to nail it almost effortlessly...just a stroll in the park. Amazing voice, and hats off to the accompaniment...top notch.
I'm a simple man all I want is her and PMJ together to create an album then get it put on vinyl record so I can sit in my house pour a glass of bourbon sit down an listen to the needle drag across the record until the music starts.
ah, so you're a man of culture as well
PMJ actually sells vinyls of their albums! I don’t think there’s one with exclusively Haley though, and they’re hella expensive anyway… 😅 but just to let you know!
@@elytris655 all vinyls are expensive these days. Looked at some of their prices and they're about the same as what you'd pay at retail stores.

the arrangement is insane. so good
All the arrangements they make are mostly perfect! I am in love
Totaly agree !
thank you!
you are so correct....outstanding arrangement...can not wait to see them live in Houston
The drums add such a bombastic dimension.
I'm a 90s teen and I approve of this cover!!! Unbelievable!!!
Haley is a truely truely amazing singer. Not only raw talent, but she always knows where to place the specific inflexions and techniques to accentuate the emotion in the melody the best way possible. Congratulations miss, you have achieved something really beautiful and special
Stay vintage. So much potential. Expose young people to all kinds of music.
What’s old is new again ! Genius !!!
Beverly Hayshouston 👍🏻Because the music kids are listening to today is just totally a disgrace, it’s all untalented, electronic, sampling bullshit.
For real, all music can be appreciated and respected, though I definitely agree the old styles should be appreciated and listened too still. Just because new music exists doesn't mean the old should fade, and just because you like old music doesn't mean new music is trash.
With the 20's coming back around in a month, how about we bring back jazz for this century too!!!
@@BobbyGeee what the kids today listen to on the radio is just noise not music. And the sad part of it is they don't even know it
@@beefonweckeastside3323 Just because You don't like today's music doesn't mean it's bad. People are likely more drawn to music made in their era because it has more relatability with things they experience, or maybe they just like it. People have different tastes and yours is not the only one, so please stop! :)
Again. Minute silence for the drummer that was not seen but heard. RIP
ahhahaha but you can see him in the beginning of the video!

I like her but there is no one but Screaming Jay Hawkins for that song. He deserves that honor. She's good and should stick to other songs, leave the classic to a classic act.
Sublime. The first few seconds in and I’m like wow, that voice and that arrangement. This song has been done justice and more.
She breaks my heart every time...

Not EXACTLY 90s, but classic. Thanks for the tip!
i love Haley Reinhart
I can't even imagine the energy in the room during recording. Outstanding!!!!
Beautiful cover now a beautiful tribute in my mind.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell
I can't hear this song enough. She puts more range in one song than many singers in their career.
Am I the only one who wishes that the original artist (in this case Soundgarden) see these PMJ videos? How could they not love them?!
They did, or at least Chris Cornell did. They did this cover before Chris Cornell died and he did remark that he thought it was phenomenal.
So many years later, still watching, and trying not to fall in love. She deserves her own stage
Absolutely brilliant. Haley's voice never ceases to amaze me. The scat singing, her incredible range and composition. Scott Bradlee, you have always been such an inspiration to me. You've absolutely done it again. Brilliant work to all. Really loving the orchestral vibes in this vintage interpretation. Top hats off to all.
I had the chance to see PMJ perform live at Sunfest music festival in West Palm this year. Scott, you told me that it's never too late to get back into music. I've thought about your words every day since then! Continue kicking ass! Sincerely, one of the (if not THE) biggest PMJ fans in the world, alive or dead.
Scott is an incredible arranger.
I think she looks amazing, totally femme fatal, sultry 50's movie star
And such a wonderful voice
As much as I love the original, this is a spectacular version. Haley's voice is stunning.
Obviously a Chris Cornell fan, I like how she subtlety brought sadness to a song that already has dire straits. And that band complements her voice.

I was an incredibly massive Chris Cornell fan and with that, a Soundgarden fan since 1988. I learned guitar and started singing with Chris as an inspiration. His vocal range and sound was a rare gift. It means so much to me to hear this respectable and fresh cover of Chris's work. You did a phenomenal job everyone 😊 I Love this cover. 'no one sings like you anymore...'
indeed
I read this when she was singing it 😂
This is still just a... masterpiece.
This chick's voice melts my cold dead heart like none other 🥰😍
This just makes me wanna her do more alt rock and grunge. I would love to hear Muse (Supermassive Black Hole, Plug in Baby or Hysteria), Nirvana (I'd kill to hear Lithium or Heart Shaped Box), STP (Plush or Interstate Love Song), Pearl Jam (Jeremy, Black or maybe Alive), more Strokes (Reptilia or Last Nite), Arctic Monkeys (Crying Lightning or Arabella, maybe R U Mine or Do I Wanna Know), Gorillaz (Feel Good Inc or maybe Clint Eastwood or Rhinestone Eyes) or Blur (THE UNIVERSAL PLEEEEASE or Girls and Boys or Coffee and TV), and maybe some Panic! at the Disco (I Write Sins not Tragedies, This is Gospel, and Death of a Bachelor) or Paramore (literally anything off Riot)
Personally, i'd love to hear Starlight, or Stockholm Syndrome by Muse covered by PMJ. But the others are fantastic choices as well. Now that I think of it, i'd like to hear all of those covered by them too.
Xadaj127 Starlight would be great. I don't know if they'd do Stockholm Syndrome because while it's big amongst Muse fans, it's really not that popular in the mainstream. If they do any Muse, it will probably be Starlight, Hysteria, Madness or maybe Dead Inside or Mercy.
ScrewyGrapes Hysteria ins't bad either. It'd be nice to see what they chose to do. They've left me surprised at their choices before.
Honestly, if she ever did anything off of Riot or maybe Misguided Ghosts then I would freak the fuck out
They need to do No Doubt.
Post modern is the bomb. This girl is the number one singer in the world. Am I alone ?
With that thought? Yea, probably...
She's a rare talent, that's for sure...an Amy Winehouse type talent!
not alone bruh
Morgan James is her sister to it
Two words, Freddie Mercury.
Everyone is talking about the vocals (fairly because Haley is amazing), but I didn't see anyone talking about the incredible instrumental
She devours melodic sound and shares the best bits with us- purely beatific
I love the simple blocking of this-put one camera on a tripod and push record. Let the performance speak for itself.
Indeed.
befingered - I didn’t notice for a long time that virtually every PMJ video is like this. 1 continuous take from a single camera. It makes Haley’s performance even more amazing. Betty Boop down to hands and eyes for the first 3 minutes and then she goes for more. I love it!
Except why hide the drummer?
How does anyone give this a thumbs down? Her voice is absolutely perfect. She sounds like an angel. Makes my hairs stand on end. Love it!
I know... Sadly, there are people out there with no appreciation of real talent.
Cherry Lynn I guess some people couldn't handle real talent...🤔
I'm not one of these people but a lot of people can't get over the bubbly interpretation of an otherwise darker song. Even if that's true, she just does it so well, who cares?
DozyProductions I cannot find this bubbly at all
Maybe people who don't care for the warbling ostentatious style of singing. I didn't downvote, but I can understand those who might based on the actually quality disparity between this sweet song bird vs. the subdued yet powerful original. A stripped-down, bluesy version would fit the lyrics better. This simply reeks of *novelty*. Not a serious interpretation.
In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
And the sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat
Summer stench
Neath the black, the sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I'll hear you scream again
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come
Won't you come
Stuttering
Cold and damp
Steal the warm wind, tired friend
Times are gone
For honest men
Sometimes, far too long for snakes
In my shoes
Walking sleep
In my youth, I pray to keep
Heaven send
Hell away
No one sings like you anymore
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come
Got chills listening to her rendition...gurl can sing I think there's room for this kind of genre in my portfolio...big ups !
This is like Mae West meets Marilyn Monroe(happy birthday Mr. President)all wrapped like Jessica Rabbit, I can't believe this beauty doesn't control the world yet... Haley WOW!!!
I really want to hear her sing 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?' It would be amazing.
Hope May hell yeah
She could sing The Federal Register and I would come.
We need to make this happen.
Haley Queen of hearts
When there's a need her voice fills the void and literally stops time....
Haley never disappoints! I'd love to see her do Deftones - Change.
Or NIN Piggy
Definitely Change, or Minerva.
Yes and yes.
Haley disappoints in every single song. In THIS song, it happens at 4:52.
Do you not like her or did I not get the joke? lol!
I came in skeptical, left a believer.
Absolutely incredible
Amen to that! Music has a power over us like no other.
Food, faith, nature, music.
Things that can connect all of us together by our very souls.
Everything about this is incredible. Haley's vocals are awesome. I can't say enough about how great Scott Bradlee is here on piano (and on all of these Postmodern Jukebox sessions). What an excellent musician!
Chris sat up a little bit just to hear you better. Your balls at the end were perfect and so unexpected. Piano guy is a genius. Thank you for the best cover I have heard of this song.
Dear Lord I do love me some Haley.
And please search for "Haley Reinhart Better". It's a killer song that deserves to be heard.
check please is my favourite from the album
Thanks for the heads up. Love it.
thank you for the publicity it was fucking amazing!!!
HOLY COW! I just looked the song up, it's fantastic!
Thanks for putting it out there...I would never have heard of that song if I had not seen this comment
PMJB and Haley is always the best!
Thanks! Have you had the chance to check us out live yet? postmodernjukebox.com/events/
Wow just looked up your events and your next show in my Lincolnville Maine. I am from Maine and wasn't expecting you to come here. Kudos!
BRAVO~ ENCORE~ AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!❌❌❌💯💋❤️🔥
Absolutely astounding. This cover holds equal stature to the original. The composition is superb, and the musicians are genius. As for Ms. Reinhart's vocals, they are the stuff by which men measure their worth.
