  • The Slate Drake AKA Isonychia nymph is a large Mayfly species. This pattern is one that a Lively Legz customer tied and they shared on their social media pages. I was asked to tie this for a custom order after one of my customers saw this on the Lively Legz page. Although this fly is very similar to a Scott's Big Nymph, for my style of fishing this is my preferred pattern for an Isonychia. It's a great looking fly and the antron yarn is a lot easier to work with than the turkey feathers. Also I add more weight to this fly compared to Scott's Big Nymph which helps with my sink rate and makes up for the drag that the Lively Legz would make when sinking
I'm starting to post some of my flies from my videos for sale on our website www.holsingersflyshop.com and you can also contact my for custom orders or if any of the flies on the website are out of stock and you would like some. If you would to place an order for my hand tied flies you can do that by contacting my at holsingersflyshop@gmail.com.
Like always, I am putting the material list below with links to the products if you need to order any of the materials. Thanks for watching. -Shawn

Great looking fly, Shawn. You keep tying these lively legs patterns and you'll eventually break my stubbornness! I just haven't been able to give in to using them yet.

James Vatter I will be honest with you I very rarely fish Lively Legz flies. I am a euro nympher and feel the legs aren’t really necessary and slow down the descent of the fly. That being said these flies catch a lot of fish. I have a lot of customers who request them and report back with great catches on them. I guess I just need to be a little more versatile and tie one on. Lol
