In retail, you get called an idiot and useless for not knowing where a single, niche item is. You're harassed over prices you didn't decide and you're expected to provide the royal treatment to everyone, at all times. You get no paid vacations and you're expected to work no matter how sick you are... for minimum wage.

As a walmart associate I can state the only time I feel joy at walmart is when the top stock is clean or an item goes on the shelf with no trouble. Even then it's a fleeting moment then sorrow as reality sets in

I work at McDonald's, and despite constantly being yelled at by customers, being spoken to very disrespectful by other managers, and being very short staffed and expected to get the whole store ready by morning while doing our job. We get paid 13/hr and everyone I work with, has issues like kids and age issues. So for me, I'm constantly helping everyone else without getting help for my stuff and fall behind while I have a second job while looking for a 3rd job.
Got off topic point is, McDonald's basically wants their employees and managers to French kiss every customer's asshole just so they don't have a bad review.

I've tried working in fast food and retail and I'm not cut out for it. I get way too mad that people use you as a punching bag if they are having a bad day and when it happens the managers or whatever chastise you instead of standing up for you. No thanks.

As somebody who worked retail in a tiny shop in the middle of the capital city in a country where having a person not buying 6 cans of beer after work a rarity was complete hell.
I ended up needing to spend 3-5 months in and out of hospital to deal with my mental issues and depression.
Long story short if u got lucky and didn't get to work as retail ever be glad cuz Holy shit now I feel bad going to the store and looking at employees knowing full well what they have to go through when most costumers feel entitled to being treated like kings and trash talking/being trashy to cashiers or other employees.
(Oh also in case anybody is wondering I worked as cashier and since that store was under employed often I had to deal with massive lines of people alone with some sometimes even refusing to take their products out of the basket requesting me to do it or some threatening to critically injure me or murder me cuz I "stole" their 2 euros. The amount of insults I had to take in was a nightmare.)

I scrubbed toilets and sweeped the parking lot every night at walmart, absolute hell, they have a currency system for calling out, too many currencies, you get fired, holidays counted as double, or even triple currency if you miss those days (christmas, halloween, thanksgiving, etc.)

Full-time, minimum-wage Walmart employee (going on to be a team lead) of 1.5 years here. I take no offense to these promos, but I can understand how they could tick somebody off. Hell I'm surprised Walmart even allowed for these promos to happen in the first place. In the end, if they do happen to P you off, I'm sure it wasn't done with bad intentions, even IF done in poor taste regardless.
I'll level with you on something though - if you currently work at Walmart and find your job to be stressful, my best advice would be to disconnect from the job at an emotional level. Definitely avoid quiet-quitting, and drama with coworkers, but, unless you're climbing "the ladder", don't get to the point where your job is anything more than arriving at XX:XX and leaving at YY:YY. Also, your team leads and coaches are your friend and are great resources for dealing with stress at work. Absolutely worth a chat with them if shit gets rough. If talking to them about your concerns feels awkward or things aren't getting resolved, then it's HR's turn to hear you out. Again - a great resource.
HR doesn’t care about you from my experience. They’ll listen to you but they don’t resolve much of anything except throwing band-aid and being a yes-man to the big guys

As someone who works retail and got screamed at twice today by confused old people... there are people working in mines for cents per minute... our job isn't that hard and if someone pretending to work at walmart makes you pressed, grow the fuck up

TLDR: Them acting all fake and happy working a "commoner" job is irritating, to say the least. And don't ever work at Walmart, if you are forced to work there then I understand your pain!
As someone who used to work at the horrible place of Walmart, if you ever see a smile from an employee, it is 99.99% forced. Even from me and I always smile 24/7. Most days, I had to force myself to. If you don't mind being literally whistled at like a dog by someone trying to force you to do the work of a completely different section that you don't work in. Or if you don't mind higher-ups trying to force you to do illegal things. Then punishing you financially by giving you less of a raise than everyone else because you refused to do said illegal things, then I wish you luck working there. Also, if you've ever had identity issues, it might be because of Walmart, just saying.
They cross-train you on just about every section of the store so they can work/ pay the bare minimum number of workers. I was trained on everything in their superstore except automotive, and electronics pretty much.
They change your schedule DAILY so you need to take photos of your schedule every day. There were several times they changed days and then tried to punish an employee for "not coming in to work." Meanwhile, they shuffled your day off to a working day that morning or the night before. And don't even bother asking for vacation days because they will constantly "forget" and say you never asked for it off.
Also, they force everyone to be part-time so they don't have to provide as many benefits, and they change schedules frequently so that you are indebted to them. They make it so you can't get another job or get schooling. As soon as you mention other jobs or needing a set schedule for schooling purposes, they make up a lie and fire you. I knew someone who was trying to go to school and he was fired for an issue his coworker caused.
They push the ever-loving heck out of their credit card applications! If someone applies for a credit card, whether it is accepted or not, money is added to the higher-ups holiday bonus's. Also, for those who don't know, on the credit card applications the customer has to write their social security number. Management was forcing employees to fill out false credit card applications and telling them to write random social security numbers on them. They would say just write random ones or take your own social security number and change the last 2 numbers or swap numbers around, etc. And as I mentioned, because I kept refusing to do that, they gave me less of a raise than everyone else. That is why jobs tell you that you can't discuss pay with other employees because they don't want you to find out that they are paying everyone else more. They are utter scumbags, and I wouldn't work there again even if I was homeless and living in a gutter somewhere.
That place is soul-sucking.
