If you have a car that smokes from the exhaust blue smoke, white smoke or black smoke, in this video we will explain what causes that and how to eventually fix it. Your car may smoke different color of smoke out of the exhaust if there is something wrong with the engine or the exhaust system. We explain what causes white smoke out of the exhaust, black smoke out of the exhaust, and blue smoke out of the exhaust on a gasoline car but most of the information will relate to diesel engine as well. Hi. Thanks for the heads up on the 3 things would you say the majority of the time are the stem valves are usually the first things to go and then the pistons etc usually when you open the engine how can you be double sure do you check all 3 things etc .once the engine is open

What would be the difference between these symptoms then? For instance, I understand that when it’s valve seals, the smoke comes intermittently say for instance when you go down an incline. What happens when it’s a ring, do you get a constant smoke from the exhaust?
Hi i have a 2008 bmw 535xi and i replaced the valve cover gasket and the oil filter housing gasket but when i do a pull on 2nd gear the car smoke from exhaust blue smoke this happened after changed the valve cover help
Yet no mentioned of a blocked/failed PCV "recirculation valve" found on most/all modern engines, if one's found to be blocked or failed it increased crank case pressure which forces oil passed the valve stem seals into the chambers..

then you better watch your head gasket. if it starts to leak because the pressure, it will blow the gasket if you hot rod it any.
@@arkie74 erm!! your more likely to see elvis then a head gasket leaking (unless you've massively increased boost pressure & others to create such higher pressures for that to occur!!
ie between piston rings, oil seals, crank case seals even a sump pan gasket etc & a head gasket the head would be the last to go unless the cars been abused & left to over-heat many times/run empty of block coolant...
ps side with a head gasket failure your more likely to see white smoke due to the coolant galleries being closer to the combustion chambers as opposed to oil etc

they had a common failure of burned valves. yeah rite before it blew, it was spitting oil and water out of the gasket. about 2 miles later, boom. it also had a badly burned valve, that went from one piston to another. yeah when it blew it blowed the f8ck up!!! lol so erm, yeah ...
@@arkie74 I've never experienced such issue nor heard/seen anyone who has suffered from such issue on a standard engine from any manufacturer... on a poor rebuild "yes" on a poorly tuned/modified "yes"
however, we're also going away from the main topic hear.. as such issue isnt related to pressure as such.. mainly combustion ie poor mix, engine over heating, poor tuning etc OR very poor engine internals (maintenance)...
as such usually if someone encounters such issues & its not fixed the cylinder head gasket usually goes due to the excessive heat (aka where by there's no or little coolant) as such, the engine would usually go well before then... more so fumes aka oil burning due to such issue falls down to a poorly maintained engine/poorly tuned etc its not really a common fault via a standard engine "kinda self made issue"
a simple example, I rebuilt my cylinder head etc early this year & I've no issues aka (replacing all valves, valve seats etc head gasket & so-on timing gear etc etc) engine ports I've also polished etc & a tad bit of custom head work & I've experienced ZERO issues "only positives"
overall, from what you've noted.. I'd simply say, if you were aware your car had issues why didn't you pull over, then not use the car until it was fixed etc.. as for me I'd point my finger at the owner/driver being the main issues aka "negligence via poorly maintaining the vehicle" of your issues stated above.

you see such issues show symptoms, still using the car & expecting it all to be fine is simply asking for trouble. So you see its not a common issue, nor is it a common manufacturing issue.. however it is common via ppl neglecting there vehicles, who then blame anyone but themselves.
I hve a 2007 camry and when i turn it on....a littlebit of blue smoke comes out of the exhaust ( only in the mornings) just a littlebit then it stops what could it be

I just got a b7 rs4 and on a cold start there is blue from 15 secs to 30 secs then it stops, after then nothing. 85k miles, good service history, should I worry?

so if I keep an eye on the oil, just add as needed? if you dont have the money to have someone to tear down the engine to replace the seal? I have had experiance in this, and as long as I kept the oil full, It ran fine. till somthing REALLY goes wrong. but it ran the better part of another 60, 70,000 miles. thats when the whole engine needed overhaul.
Would those cause oil to accumulate in the intake manifold? This is a 2003 Saturn ion 2.2 ecotec engine. It usually only puffs blue smoke for a few seconds after extended ideling at a traffic light. Thanks

Those engines had a manufactured defect my nephew had gotten a new engine from Toyota dealership because of it they did an engine consumption test on it and he got a new engine
My car engine was overhauled recently. But it smokes only when the engine is hot and when I accelerate. Blue smoke. I was present when the block was put together and sleeves were honed, but I the head was sent to an ingeneer to do valvestem seals. Any ideas?

I have a dakota 2001 4.7 and it has a Poweraid air system added. I have been asking mechanics to tell me why I have SOME smoke out the tailpipe on occasion, but they all seem to want to diagnose it for $$$. I know about compression testing and Leak testing for Valves and Piston issues and the possibility, but this truck only smokes a very little and only when I'm doing short work (yard work) or when I put it in reverse. All videos talking about smoke don't specify that it has to be a LOT of smoke or a Little smoke to be valves of pistons. I am not wanting to put that kind of money if my problem isn't a problem. Does a Poweraid Air Boost create the potential for pockets of fuel to create white smoke? It doesn't smoke when idle, or on the highway or at stop signs...but it does when I sit for more than a couple minutes in park/stopped.
I'm looking for the truth about this so I can be at peace. Grateful!!!

Nah you'll start misfiring soon after limp mode will occur
No because if it keeps burning oil, eventually the piston rings get stuck and damage the cilinder walls. It doesn’t mean it will die in less than 1 km but it will eventually damage itself. If its a pcv than oil drops on top of the piston, which is less bad but I don’t think it’s good for the health of the engine though.

The only way to find out is by checking the spark plug if is wet then you have a problem simple as that

@@raylyd i have a mercedes and used blue devil stop smoke, i think because i had a v8 it took two oil changes, but my car does not smoke anymore..hope this helps
