It is always amazing how much time can get ate up by things that aren't directly the work, but necessary for the work.
Exactly
Thanks for watching
💥 I helped a friend remove some bushes because she heard I had a backhoe. After an hour of set up I pulled them by hand because they were so small. Since then I ask for pictures or video. 🤪
*Keep on tractoring!* 👍
Thanks for watching
Interesting video. Gives us an idea of the 'hidden' time requirements. Thanks Brock!
Thanks
That's why experience is so valuable..We gain knowledge with experience..& experience is THE best teacher , your doing great Brock showing ALL the hidden costs we forget to add in our quotes.
Good video !

Yes sir
Thanks for watching
I hate loading up and unloading. Love the seat time but lots of times load and unload is the hottest dirtiest part of a job. Always gotta remember to charge for that time too. Thanks for the vid.
Yes sir. Swapping trailers, putting the ramps out and then up, securing the machine multiple times...
Not nearly as fun as running the machine
When i'm prepping for a job the next dayI always load the equipment the night before. It just means you can wake up,have coffee, machinery already loaded and you tend to forget less because less things on your mind while hurrying to load in the morning. As your quoting gets more accurate, you will find these flat rate jobs{I hope you flat rated it}pay more than hourly,by far.No job is ever to small when a customer is willing to pay.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I do think that is the best way to do it
I’m always a day late and a dollar short because I try to do too many other things
Some good truths to hear and think about in this video. Nice job Brock!! Hope your kid got the win in the baseball game!! --J.Andre.
Thanks
We had a good night at the ballpark
Thank you very helpful

Nice video Brock. I think this one will help homeowners looking to get these kinds of jobs done as much as it will the people thinking about taking on jobs like this with a small tractor. Since people are talking numbers in the comments, the FYI for what I would have charged would have been $150 for the bush removal (my minimum) and $150 for removing organic material (my standard charge for jobs within 30 minutes drive) for a total of $300. Every area is different, but people are always curious about what others would charge.
Yeah, I’ll tell them my pricing on the majority of jobs I do.
I forgot to mention it in this one. I charged $250
Thanks for watching
Just a question, should you have called to see where the utilities are? Here in Illinois, they will mark it out for free where anything underground is like power or gas. That would be a bad day if they had to come out and fix something like a broken gas line. Just a thought for the future, thank you for the great videos.
Yes
Thanks for watching
Very good job. I wood do the same thank
Thanks for watching
Great Video. Job's start when you start prepping or at least that is what I have always held to and they dont end till your at home and unloaded! So technically you did not finish until you unloaded the tractor!! :P ...I felt a little cheated at not seeing the end result after clean up!! Solution for the baseball time crunch...get the kid into video games and the kid wont want to play baseball anymore and you wont be late for anything!! :P Looking forward to the next one!
Yeah, I was about 99% done when my camera shut off and I didn’t restart it. I basically just hit it with a hand rake a little bit
Thanks for watching
I need some bushes like those to go on my property line. Add a little privacy and help with the dust from the rock road.
Yeah, they were the perfect kind of bushes that everybody wants but this woman didn’t like them
I love your videos and I learn so much from them. Yes you seem to have a hard time to handle the heat. I have about the same shape as you. Loosing weight would help a lot. However this is easier said than done as I am in the same boat as you.
But for having sporting a full beard like yours for many years, when I shaved it, this was like day and night. It was way cooler. Just my two cents
Thanks for watching and commenting
Hey Brock just a idea. I have the same exact truck trailer tractor setup and I installed a wireless remote setup so not only can I spread what’s in the trailer but use it for loading tractor in trailer with raising it as I drive on then lower it without climbing in and out a hundred times. Just a thought works well for me. Great videos!
Thanks for sharing
Getting a wireless remote is on my to do list but I just haven’t got it done
thanks for sharing the video, do you think a 4-in-1 bucket would have worked in removing these shrubs?
It’s amazing how something that looks like it would be done fast and then takes hours.
Facts bro, every time I learn a new home project I double the time.
When I work on my car I make sure I don't have work the next day and start in the morning so I can overnight parts if I screw up bad.
Do you ever think about selling your tractor, and becoming dependent on the skid steer?
I gave up on my quick hitch. It became just another thing to install, or remove.
I do a 3 hr min. And I don’t do the cleanup but tractor setup and travel I don’t charge for unless they live far away then i charge according
Thanks for sharing
I would get some rams about a foot longer that way you would not hit the backhoe on the drive, or if you can fine a place were the ground is a little more leavel with trailer floor you can put the rams to it ,and back off without hitting .
I've heard if your exhaust faces forward you should block it off with a glove or something because the air coming in can spin your turbo and since it has no oil pumping it could cause damage. Thoughts?
When you figure a job do you add in extra time when your helper is around. My chocolate lab always helps and somehow the job takes a little longer. Enjoy the time with that little guy
Yes sir
He has so many questions
That’s now you Indian name………. “Brock Two Hammers”. 😂😂😂. Epic!!
I like it
Did I miss how much did the job pay? You were putting the backhoe bucket Sooo close to the house sidings, what would it cost you to repair the sidings or broken side walk? Great video as usual 👌.
I charged $250
I felt confident that I would not hit the building.
Of course over confidence is the best way to get yourself in trouble
would you have been able to use the front grapple or an actual root grapple bucket for this job?
This video showed a CON to the piranha bar, SKA " the shin splitter". Those sharp teeth are no joke to human skin.
Yeah, it could get you
Thanks for watching
That first move with the backhoe made me cringe. It came pretty close to the siding on the house. From there on, however, it was controlled and stress free. It's amazing how the average guy seems to always underestimate the time it will take to do a job. Every time I think I have time to do a job before another commitment, I'm wrong. Thank goodness that I'm retired and don't do work for other people! I'd be a miserable failure. But then again, I don't judge success by time. I judge it by seat time and the personal satisfaction I get from a good day's work. And, with forty acres, I don't think I'll be running out of projects any time soon. Great video! It made me miss my backhoe!
Yeah, maintaining your own property can be a full-time
Thanks for watching
Hey compadre. I am looking to get a weigh safe hitch through your link. I have a tractor w/weight similar to yours and a bumper pull 18’ car hauler that I use. What hitch do you recommend and do you know an approximate cost for it? I will be getting an add a grapple soon too. Can’t make up my mind to forks or bucket. I bought one of the first pre production artillian fork set from Chris when he was getting Artillian started. He’s passed now and his wife sold to Curtis. Thanks.
As far as the WeighSafe page I think you’re just choosing between the amount of drop and the 2 inch or the 2 1/2 inch.
I don’t think there’s very much price difference between them so if your truck has a 2 1/2 inch that is what I would get because it’s rated for more weight.
I also got the maximum amount of drop just because you never know what you might need
I was thinking of getting the addgrapple for my forks but the owner told me most people seem to prefer it on the bucket so I went with that
Cool that you were in on Artillian so early. I did not know Chris but I’ve heard a story and I believe his wife is actually working with Artillian again now
I appreciate that they’ve kept most of the original designs intact
Too much equipment for the job. Pull them bushes with the pickup and a log chain…. Atleast that’s what WhistlinDiesel would do 😅😅😅
I didn’t want to pull them because I didn’t want to track up the yard, but I’m no whistlindiesel
People don’t realize all the preparations that go into a job.
I would have charged $650 because of the dump fees at landfill and distance to get to it. 4 hours of work plus dump fees yeah it seems high for some but I don’t dump on my own property. If they find someone cheaper and I don’t get the job I don’t worry about it I just move on.
yeah, even though I have done it on the past 2 jobs, dumping on my own property is not a long-term solution.
I only charged $250 for this
Thanks for watching
Sir, how much horsepower is your machine?? Thank you
All the extra load up and travel time is not a thought to most folks wanting a job done. Most of the guys around here would have ripped out the bushes, loaded them up and left, leaving the homeowner with the cleanup.
It always adds up to more than you think. Thanks for watching
So what did u charge? Did u make or loose monies?
$250 for 4 hours of work
So why not do all the pre trip the night before? Why not start earlier to beat the heat and have more time to do personal things? I get the gist of it but it just seems counterproductive.
I've done jobs like this , by hand and by the old recovery strap choke and pull. The tractor seemed to be overkill but to each there own👍👍
Yeah, the best strategy is probably to prep the night before and start early.
I guess my time management isn’t that great. The day before I was working on that trench until about 9 PM and got my video edited at 2 in the morning
It is also the difference between doing this full-time and part-time with this work
I usually start my day doing customer service for our other business and then I print all of our shipping labels and make sure that everyone has what they need
It would definitely be a nice feeling to get out and have this job finished before 10 in the morning because I was prepped ahead of time. As a full-time guy I would probably need to do 2 or 3 jobs like this per day
No matter when you do the prep though it still took four hours for everything
Why I like my pat's but I don't have a backhoe so not sure if I could leave them on or not
I have wondered that myself and thought about trying pat’s quick Hitch
Did you talk to John at Artillian?
I wasn’t sure if you saw my previous message about it
@@RockhillfarmYT In my honest opinion pat's is the only way to go. Pat's doesn't restrict you to the attachments that you can use with them. I even have a pat's on my TopLink. But in your case with the backhoe, I'm not sure if they would work for the do lengthening your arms around 3 inc.
I didn't see your other post about John from Artilian. Was it in regards to the powder coat issues? I will look for it now.
The guy that I work with from Artillian Saw your comment about the issue you had and wanted to talk to you about it.
His name is John Davis and he would like you to email him at this address.
JDavis@curtiscab.com
John is a great guy. If you contact him you might mention the comment on my video along with your issue
@@RockhillfarmYT I will shoot him an email later this evening when I get home I even have the original emails between me and the guy at artillian that I was talking to.
It's 2024 now. Minimum $75 - $100 per hour total time involved. $350 - $450
How long is your trailer?
16’. Here is a walk around on it
New Dump Trailer - Gooseneck or Bumper Pull? Is Bigger Really Better?

What was the profit from this job?
I charged $250 for 4 hours.
What would you charge on a job like that takes drugs out
What would you charge for taking shirts out you do it by the job or by the hour
If it takes all day it's not a small job
Which is the point I was illustrating with this video
So what did you charge them? I can see if you charge $400 then the customer might think you are charging $400 for an hour job. Like this video points out, doing the actual work is just part of the time involved.
I don’t remember. I’m thinking $250 but it’s been a while ago.
@@RockhillfarmYT thank you! I might have binged a bunch of your videos last night haha
@@thebonestead awesome
You do not need a tractor to do this job lol a chainsaw and cut at the base would have do the job and the same result. This is very the American way to do a job.
