Everyone needs to remember that in the Winter War, Finland had no allies (GB and France promised aid but did nothing). Now, NATO, the Nordic countries, and Poland are there to back them up.
Actually, GB and France did offer a tremendous amount of MORAL support to Finland! 🤣🤣🤣

We 🇫🇮 also have defence deal directly with UK and USA and our army is basically fully compatible with the Swedish army; our defence forces actually complement each other well. Should there be any conventional (non-nuclear) problems in the area, just the Finnish-Swedish co-operation alone would be very hard to beat.
There were many Swedish volunteers who lined up on Finland's side in the winter war against the Russians, my grandfather there and fought among many other Swedes, Norwegian volunteers were also in Finland and fought. should the Russians come again, I am sure that the Scandinavian countries will back Finland again!
Their was a Brittish planned operation with men at the ready to go to Finland, but they could not get them to Finland because Norway and Sweden did not give permission to let them pass to Finland through thie country fearing for their neutrality. Sweden managed to remain "neutral" Norway still got invaded by the Nazi's
Sweden did send a large amount of aid to Finland and Swedish volunteers fought and flew Swedish aircraft against the Soviets in aid of the Finsm this is why the Fins allied with the Nazi's, they had little choice.

Agree with you, what western politicians have forgotten is their big geopolitical blunder in the 90s occupation wars in ex-Yugoslavia that gave the presidency on borders with war can be changed in our modern times and probably became inspiration for Putin. Milosevic changed the constitution of Yugoslavia and his Serbia took over Vojvodina and Kosovo, this led to the fall of Yugoslavia and wars 1991-1999. Afterwards, Milosevic started wars in neighboring republics, as Putin is doing now. Serbia is hugely expanded with Vojvodina alone, Vojvodina has historically never been part of Serbia, in addition Serbs control 48% of Bosnia. If Putin is to succeed as well as Milosevic then Ukraine is not enough...just mentioning

the whole military of the nordic countries has started cooperating, not just the air force. sweden is already having rehersals with their neighbours, even they are not nato yet. there is a defense agreement: an attack on a nordic country, nato or not, is an attack on all nordic countries. this came very short after turkey started acting up.

I am an Australian and I travelled last year by car, starting in Berlin then heading into Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. We travelled as far north to within 250kms of the artic circle. Travelling down through Finland, crossing the Baltic sea and the explored the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We travelled around Poland and eventually back to Berlin to fly home. Everywhere we stayed we researched the local history. It was so enlightening as to what happened in past decades and even centuries in each of these countries. It is a shame that Russians and their leader are so disillusioned about a perceived threat that they have to invade their neighbours. Russia could be a very powerful economy and have world class standards for their population. But has instead focused far too much on military and conflicts it creates.

I 💌Finland and the Finns. I worked there during the summer of 1969. The Russians must have known that the invasion of Ukraine would make the Finns VERY nervous. Finland's membership of NATO was their only solution, which is the exact opposite of what the Russians would want. Putin has transformed a neutral neighbor into a suspicious distrustful vigilant enemy right on his doorstep. I hope Putin realizes he has shot himself in the foot (and many other spots too!)

With all of Russia's military concentrated against Ukraine, Finland could take advantage of that and retake the territories annexed by Russia.
That's ridiculous. Russia has 6000 thousand nuclear weapons. Any direct attack on Russian territory will be met by massive retaliation. NATO has barely some ammo left, and no actual combat experience unlike Russia and Ukraine.

@@augustusomega4708 Finland was forced to be neutral by the USSR in the cold war times. It wasn’t our choice. Finland has always wanted to align to the West.
We joined the EU for instance only after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It wouldn’t have been possible before during when the USSR was still in place. The Soviets also meddled into our politics, eg who can be selected the President or which parties can form a government

As a finn, I can say that we have never wanted war with Russia. It is a shame the that with russian rulers there is no such thing as good relationship. They want their neighbours weak so they can always use their quiet military threats to influence our decitions. For us the NATO is the only realistic DEFENSIVE alternative! But for Kreml strong defense is a threat to russian threats-politic. There are lots of good russian neighbours. We have much common with ordinary russian people.

We have every month 1st monday at 12 mid day air strike alarm tests. Somebody foreigner can easily be afraid of it. That's how we are prepare all of time. That alarm tells what kind of attack is coming. Bombs or gas... or it's only something else like chemical accident. Open tv and there is warnings. Just to be only normal person in Finland needs education for many things. I remember in chiildhood learning swimming, reading, writing is first before school. Even hobby was first aid and how to extinguish fire😂. Sport in school and after every hour get out even there is -35°C. It's not easy to be finn.😅

(There is a video proof also about that for ex in the daily mail) Zhirinovsky knew the Kreml plan and illustrated that nothing happened there suddenly. All was planned beforehand for and in Ukraine. He (Zhirinovsky) died soon somehow 2022, it was not a surprise to me. As Zhirinovsky was lying on his coffin Putin visited the coffin and placed one rose in the coffin being sure that Zhiri will not talk anymore...

With Poland and Finland ramping up their defense, I'm sure Ruski's not going to try anything in that region. The weakness is West European countries and the lack of spending money on their defenses. Like Belgium, in the 80s we had a big military for the size of our country, now we have only, 23000 troops, and bad trained. All of because to cut costs, we sold all our Leopard tanks for a bargain, which other countries bought back and donated them to Ukraine. The only thing we have are a few minesweepers, 2 old frigates and a few F16s, these will be replaced with F35s, but useless in dogfights. So they better keep those F16s in their arsenal. But they won't, because of too "expensive". I'm ashamed to be an ex military sarg and reservist for 20 years.
