    Armenia is the forgotten highland of braves and Christian stronghold among hostile muslims. I would not doubt that anything coming from Armenia will be loyal and pure in character 👌

      The arm*nian nation is a complete fabrication! They are very skilled in making fake documents. It is the pursuit of this nation to present things that do not belong to them as if they were theirs. The lands they currently inhabit, "Yerevan", are Azerbaijani territory. When Russia established the USSR, they armed arm*nians and other nations and carried out terrible massacres against Azerbaijan. Despite the fact that the whole world has recognized for 28 years that "Karabakh" is Azerbaijani territory, it has done nothing against this injustice. After 28 years, following an armed attack by arm*enians, Azerbaijan has taken back part of its territory by force.
      The Arm*enian alphabet is stolen from the Ethiopian alphabet.

      Also would like to point that what distinguishes this breed besides size and fur is the loose skin. You will see lot of pictures of them with loose hanging skin around their necks and under abdomen. This is because in a fight wolves or other predators lounge for their necks and abdomen. But all they get is skin wile Gampr is able to rotate its head at least 120 degree wile predator hanging from its neck and bite their throat and subdue them. I have seen pictures of Gamprs after they fought off or killed wolves with lot of blood and cuts on their skin around their necks, but nothing serious. They recover very quickly. Predators have a very hard time damaging Gampr in throat and abdomen areas in a fight and if they grab legs then gamprs awsome teeth will tear them up. Also at around a week old gumpr’s ears are cut eliminating any enemy of being able to bite anything on it’s head and facing its teeth only.

      In early 70s, when I was still living in Armenia, would see large sheep herds passing in front of my house. Only one or two shepherds and 2-4, sometimes 6-8 gamprs walking around them. One thing the gentleman in this video talks about needs a correction. Farmers keep sheep in farms only in winter there. When spring comes they take sheep to mountain pastures and stay there for 4-5 months. It is known that if they had experienced gamprs with them 6 years and older, sometimes they would split the large herds into smaller groups in passages and leave them only under dog’s protection. I have seen that gamprs the size of Siranoush above wearing a spiked necklaces. 2-3 such dogs would be enough against a wolf pack.

    • @wboshw5886
      @wboshw5886 Před 3 lety +4

      It’s not a good idea to keep Gampr in a confined space. They’re bred to move 10-40 kilometers a day with migrating sheep. If anybody wants to keep one as a pet, keep in mind to walk them maybe twice the distance of similar sized dogs needs. Let them in wildlife areas often to wonder, keep them from frustration.
      It’s like the Siberian huskies. Whenever I see them in california housed in apartments I feel so sorry for them. Huskies are bred for open taigas and endless open space. They’re for covering distances of 50-100 kilometers in a day, in snow and open air. Not confined to 7000 square feet yards in hot southern states.

      When gamprs are born farmers keep mother and puppies in sheep pans untill they start running around and out. So no matter what, this dog protects the sheep with its life. I heard stories of shepherds leaving sheep and goats with them for as long as couple of weeks and finding them safe afterwards. When necessary Gampr can hunt its food easily.
      When sheep are slaughtered, farmer makes sure that all this dogs are never nearby, not to even smell sheep’s blood.

    And actually these dogs do not just "ring the alarm". They are known to kill wolves and are even called "geyl-khekht" in Armenia, which literally means "wolf choker". They are supposed to stay disciplined enough to not chase after them and leave their territory but they are well known to attack and kill wolves that come on their land. It is one of the reasons their ears are cropped off and sometimes tails are even docked. If your Gampr is not willing to attack a wolf then it will be not be considered a good specimen. I know plenty of old breeders from the mountains in Armenia and they would sometimes even catch wolves and use them as training bait.

Historically these breeds, ate table scraps, fought wild animals and didn't have the best vet care if any. Caucasian LGD breeds steel has been sharpened by both man and natural selection over thousands of years. I've lived and worked in the Caucasian region, seen many of theses breeds on working farms, villages and steps, real deal! Great Video, great work, both Documentary TV and Brad Anderson!

    • @rm5238
      @rm5238 Před 7 lety +11

      TheSNOTTBALL Yes, they tend to run healthier, live longer than similar sized purebred dogs. What people don't like to talk about is that the farmers from those regions cull and cull hard, they have little patience for dogs that are weak, disease prone, aggressive to flock and family. The ones that make it through will be tested by, more disease, predators and sheer capacity to keep up with the daily work. The Gampr, CAS and related breeds are still new to the West so they will remain healthy for a while, once they get very popular and people breed mainly for looks, the health will go out the door.

    • @TheSNOTTBALL
      @TheSNOTTBALL Před 7 lety +3

      R M Wow! Thanks for that insight. it makes sense though if a hard living is how these farmers exist. Can't afford to take care of litters of non workers I guess. You are right about our mainly breeding for looks though. I love the Akita but nobody works them anymore. And the biggest flaw in the breed to me is the stubbornness. Since we all claim that we want our Akita to be guardians it makes sense to began breeding more easily trainable dogs. But everyone wants to say oh that's why I love them dadada. I love the breed but I absolutely hate that they are so stubborn. And at this point since we aren't using them for hunting where that independence may have served them, and instead are using them as guardians and protectors it is more responsible to have dogs that are more responsive. just my opinion.

    • @rm5238
      @rm5238 Před 7 lety +1

      Your absolutely right, the original purpose of the Akita was to hunt Bear and Boar. Its beautiful breed but has lost working purpose in suburbia. Sad as that doesn't have to happen, there are guys in Russia with Akita's doing man work, PP, IPO stuff, I imagine its a combo of hard work and having the right line with the right drives. The GSD and Mal are great examples, theses were originally herding breeds in Europe, now have been breed / re purposed for tracking, PP, Police, Sport and more.

    Very interesting observations about the differences between the kangal and the Gampr type dogs...especially the higher waryness towards humans.
    I own a central asian otvharka, and I see the same traits as you describe when compared to my friends kangal dog.
    My dog is much more watchful and wary of humans, and he will react with high defence against a human, that he deems to be suspicious.
    Which can definatly be a challenge on walk in an urban area.
    Even though he is very socialized and used to the urban environment, he is always on guard, and can react at any moment!
    So I really don't recommend this breed for city dwellers, unless you really know what you are doing...and preferably have a muzzle.
    Otherwise fantastic fascinating dogs.
    Kind of like the royalty of dogs...as you feel priviledged to be accepted as the owner of them.

  • @openrangelivestockguarddog4041

    In regards to your comments on The Kangal. There are several different types of LGDS in my experience. Inside the flock dogs that remain IN THE FLOCK , perimeter dogs that work the EDGES OF THE FLOCK, within a quarter mile or so, and your roamers and rangers that actively pursue and displace predators ONE TO FIVE MILES around the flock depending on terrain and the predator density. Kangals are very well known as roamers and rangers, actively displacing predators around your flock. In open range work all types are needed to complete the team. Here in America, we are infants in the LGD timeline. The vast majority of the dogs work in very small areas, often fenced in, in close proximity to neighbors livestock or dogs, and there are conflicts. Most in my opinion are caused by ignorance of what specific dogs are bred for and the characteristics of the breed. Are there exceptions in every breed? Yes certainly. You may find a Kangal as a natural, inside the flock LGD, but in general it isn't likely. A Great Pyrenees may become a roamer ranger type with a wide patrol area, but again from my experience it isn't likely. Many of the LGD'S imported into the USA are from land race breeds thousands of years old bred by nomadic sheep cultures working on open range with the flock migrating throughout the season on a daily basis. To take the same dog breed and expect it to stay in an extremely small area comparitively speaking, guarding poultry, a few sheep or goats, in a fixed place, is an unrealistic expectation of many LGD breeds. I encourage people considering the purchase and use of an LGD to research the breeds as much as possible before making decisions. Consider your environment and what type of dog is suitable. LGD'S are bred to be canine agressive to varying degrees as the PRIMARY PREDATORS ARE CANINES. What are you doing with a Kangal, or Gampr or many other land race breeds in an environment with the neighbors dog running onto your property or vice versa. Dogs will be damaged, people will threaten to shoot your dogs, you may end up in a law suit. These breeds are not genetically coded to be put in a pen or enclosure and remain there. They will get out, they will find a way. If you want a barnyard or small homestead LGD that remains in a small area purchase the appropriate breed for the purpose. Visit and SPEND TIME observing the parents in the working environment. Visit prior off spring from the pair if possible, and learn how the dogs behave and work. You will save yourself a lot of trouble.

    Man! I salute you brother! you're on a role with these rare working dogs. I heard stories that this dog was mixed with wolves to achieve athleticism and bite force power. They do have some wolf characteristics. BTW this breed has a phenomenal feature of being able to fight and when he has to walk away, they will. They don't fight to the death unless they have to. They let these dogs run wild at night to protect the land.

    Brad Anderson - Hello Brad, I would like to acknowledge that you are well versed and experienced with many of the breeds you have. I thank Dogumentary and you for taking the time to express your experiences and thoughts on these uncommon breeds. Brad, what is your opinion on gameness with Livestock Guardians as it relates to Wolves. I have a general understanding that both dogs and wolves would avoid engagement if possible, but if they meet......???This questions goes along the line of gameness/drive to where these breeds dont have the drive to kill another dog, and is the reason why they are not championed as fighting dogs, compared to other breeds. "I do not promote or agree with dog fighting by any means, nor do I want to compare these breeds with traditional dogs used for fighting, commonly in the US."!!! But if these breeds come to contact with wolves, would their drive change in actual combat? Because wolves aren't fighters, they are killers!! So how would a low drive dog succeed in deterring wolves outside of drawing attention to the human? (my opinion on wolves is not scientifically proven, but it is MY assumption.) Thank you for your time in advanced.
