You just had to overlook the fact that he could fit in Arsenals system... 😂

I'd love to see an updated version of this video based on this season. Seems like he's really come on quite a lot over the course of this season.
In his build up?
@@hamzaesat4085 Yeah that and a few other things as well
@@MylesB93-tbf, Rice wasnt that good this season until the last few months
Yes it's love to see an update too
Would love to see an update and an assessment of his fit at Arsenal
Love the honesty in these vids. Very objective analysis, not enough reviews show the good and the bad

Rice is cooking, and I am looking forward to Declan taking his position in the Arsenal lineup
Arteta is going to take Rice to the next level. I can't wait to see this become reality🤓
This video was made one year ago and during this period Declan Rice has improved his game, which means a new version of the video would make sense.
I don’t understand how people can call Declan overrated, I refuse to believe you’ve watched multiple games of Declan and still think he’s overrated. He’s one of the best DM’s in Europe too 5 comfortably
Excellent Video!! You made an astute point to mention the implications of a Rice and FDJ pivot at United. That midfield combination seems to ask more questions than solve. However, that could just be a greater issue with the United squad. Any new player that comes in is likely to expose other flaws in the main XI, irrespective of whether the incoming player is initially a good fit or not.
Excellently done. Honestly, didnt know there were people who were unbiased and gave honest reviews. Thank you so much
Very fair analysis. I always make the joke that seeing Rice run with the ball at people is the most clumsy but effective thing ever. Doesn't look right visually but it works 8/10 times lol
So the most effective thing ever works only 8/10 times?
@@yuchoob You got what I was trying to say. Stay blessed
@@Wingerella Bless you too. 8 times out of 10, every time.
A video that was weelllll ahead of it's time.. Still agree with this analysis- Arsenal fan
would love an updated review
Great work, thank you. Love the format, just watched the FDJ, Nunez and Saka videos and learned something from all of them. Assuming FDJ moves to Man Utd, will be v interesting to see how a midfield of Fred, FDJ and Bruno matches up to the top Premier League teams. Agree with you that swapping Rice for Fred probably doesn't solve the problems. Fascinating season ahead.
Cheers Jon. I do not believe Fred and Bruno can co exist in same midfield as FDJ.. still leaves a gaping hole at CDM in terms of defensive positioning. Only way I could see is maybe a diamond with another destroyer put in as well.
From this video .shows how much he has improved 🔥🔥🔥🔥
These vids are so good. Keep it up ! 😊
superb analysis as always!!!
Glad you think so!
Great job as usual 🔥🔥
Thanks 🔥
Absolutely a brilliant analysis. No bias whatsoever. Just great to watch.
Thanks Srikkanth!
Fantastic analysis. Love the unbiased approach you take, very informative, excellent. Subscribed. Edit... glad you mentioned about Southgate stiffling his development, he's terrible. The sooner he leaves the better, not just for Rice, but the whole squad.
Loved it bro
jorginho is a criminally underrated footballer, hes in the frame of busquets( not saying hes achieved like him but his footballing brain)... only that he didnt have the opportunity to play at a prestigious club in his prime
Man knew he'd go for 100Ms way before. 🫢
As an Arsenal fan your video has helped me understand how he will fit in. I suspect he's going to learn close control at the back at Arsenal as we usually play from the back. Hopefully Arteta can get the best out of him. I think he'll do well in the zone in front of Saliba and Gabriel.
I’m sure if Arsenal can get him in the team , he will spend full of his ability for the team to win because Rice is an Arsenal fan
I think he is better player now, his assessment card is underrated, with Arsenal gonna to be better player especially in passing
He needs to play in Xhaka position and Arsenal either need caicedo or keep partey.
Do you remember when Arteta had Xhaxa covering the LB role in possession, and dictating/driving from an angled deep area. Something tells me this is Mikels plan, with possibility for Timber to invert and run forward freely on the right - there will be flexibility. Gooners must look at this signing as a defensive one, not an offensive one.
Great video as always. You should do videos on GOATs like Messi or Ronaldo and talk about what makes them so great
Hey, I just found your channel. Awesome work! I wish there was more. I think Sangare is strong in the areas where rice is weaker. Can you do a video on sangare ?
I’ll add him to the list 👍
Absolutely top analysis and would be interested to know your current thoughts one year on and his impending move to Arsenal under Arteta... Perfect fit? I would think so given your analysis.
You got his transfer fee almost spot on...A YEAR AGO!!👏🏽
Great analysis, that's why I tell people that he's not a good replacement for Partey, or can't play the Partey role as easily as people think.
Bro I’d love to see u do a vid on a keeper
This video is the reason why Chelsea needs a ball-playing DM. Unless Rice improves or he gets paired with someone very good on the ball to help with build up but the English media has hype him too much thinking he's a 100 million player.
Arsenal just spent 105mill on him 😭😭😭
@@joven_what about it now?😂
Time and time again, excellent analysis. I love this content! Rice seems more a long term replacement for Kante. Let's be clear, Kante is Kante. There won't be another Kante. Rice could bring shooting from that pivot position which is something Chelsea have lacked since Lampard and Essien left. If Chelsea sign him, I actually can see Chelsea playing a more attacking pivot player like Mount next to him similar to the way Modric plays that role next to Casemiro for Real Madrid.
Thanks and with the greatest of respect ... Rice and Mount may be homeboys with a great feel for each other’s game but they’re not gonna be Modric or Casemiro levels ...
@@PythagorasinBoots I agree. I don't think they'll ever be that good. Possibly good enough.
@@PythagorasinBoots I feel like Rice has world class potential but will never be "one of the best ever" which is what modric is. He's more gonna be a Keane or a kante in maybe being "one of the clubs best midfielders ever"
@@westay4924 I think Rice can play a functional role in a top team but I personally question whether he’d be world class tbh. The fact that his footwork is pretty average and that he’s (currently) incapable of operating as a metronomic DLP make me question his potential.
@@yurhomi4478 i think he won't ever be a regista, he's went more of the way of a box to box which are more used in the current era of football. You can tell that with his dribbling ability
what a season hes having would love to see a updated video on him
Top video. Subscribed.
The real critique here is, is that in every clip his heads never up. He's more so worried about his own possession, rather than the teams. He's got a long way to go to become a great. I'd like to watch a video on his first touches. Aka this is what I'm searching next. Fantastic content though! Honestly, very well put together.
Arteta is actually going to turn him in to a world class midfielder , our style will suit him to a tee!

think the best part of his game, the one that really made him stand out breaking through, is that he rarely has to make a tackle. He's that player who's always in the right place to nip a dangerous situation in the bud. Invaluable
on second watch, your analysis is largely based on his game from 3-4 years ago. You give a point then use footage from his first season at CDM (18/19), not really indicative of the player he is now
I was thinking that in light of his last 8 months in particular this video now looks very dated. He rates Caicedo as having significantly better potential than Rice and honestly Caicedo will do well to reach Rice's current level, true midfield general in 2023.
You got some knowledge about the game gg man
Appreciate it bro ❤️
Really interesting looking back on this now
Best analysis going
Cheers bud appreciated 👍
Declan Rice would had been great in Ole's United, but as always United are a few steps behind great analysis as always mate, this is mental ecstasy
I feel like he'd be a good fit for Liverpool, but they or anyone else won't break the bank for him. Although I do see flaws in him game but I feel it's like you said ; the coaching. He'd develop massively at Liverpool. I could see him as a 8 or 6. But I definitely see him as someone that could potentially take that Henderson role. Liverpool has looked at Tchoumeni, someone who is very similar to Rice, so I won't be surprised if eventually go for him once he's cheaper.
A fair comment and yes Klopp is the master of improving players with a more rugged style and bringing them in line with the demands of elite champions league football.
Fuck liverpool
I find Rice and Aurelien different though. Rice progresses the ball mostly by dribbling while Aurelien progresses by passing. The latter is also better in 1st phase build up though I think he's played under a better system.
Great analysis! Given that he isn't exceptional in the build up like most 6s, nor does he have the creativity / goal scoring ability of 8s, I'm surprised to see him linked to Arteta's Arsenal.
Great vid, shows how seriously you take your rating system
The reason why he isn’t a £100 million player (yet) is because he is better at breaking the lines with his dribbling rather than his passing. He needs to develop that ability to pass because if he loses a yard or two of pace as he ages, his attacking contributions will be limited.
Obviously, as you noted, under Southgate and Moyes’ counter-attack systems he has not been able to express himself as a cultured player in the build-up phase. However, even when West Ham and England play weaker teams in which they dominate possession, his body shape when recieving the ball is a bit like McTominay and he struggles to see passes between the lines.
I do wonder if a player can be taught to do these things or whether it just defies their natural game… we will only see when Rice goes into the final years of his contract and his price tag becomes more affordable…
Agreed - very good analysis there 👍
Can't pass, can't shoot, can't tackle

The Best Analysis!! Can you see him working at Arsenal?? We're being linked and I like the idea - he's English so he won't leave!
Very good analysis 👍🏼 👌🏽
great analysis
Always good analysis
"Rice looks more awkward in these situations" as the video shows him beating player after player with the specific clip eliminating 3 defenders in 1 touch. Sometimes you are too critical so your analysis goes from spot on to something approaching wrong. Fair play to Moyes and Southgate stagnating Rice development. Arteta will unlock it, yet the key to proper analysis is looking at player characteristics and how they express themselves on the pitch. Rice does not have a footwork problem in tight spaces; his being safe and secure in the defensive third building up in phase 1 is what a lot of coaches teach and rightly touches would get more aggressive and risk oriented toward the final third. Arteta will teach the same thing, he doesn't want mistakes in his defensive third; only how he teaches it will be dramatically different as Arteta will teach using "the pause," a Spanish and La Masia 1st attacker tactic that opens up space around and behind the first line of pressure so you can then play the ball past the pressure. So it is not like Rice can't do it, he shows in moments he absolutely can; yet this is also how his coaches pre Arteta have stifled his development. He shows very good footwork in tight spaces and with a progressive coach will be able to express himself moving forward. Arsenal just paid 105 million for Rice and he will be worth every pence. Rice has more to his game technically than you give him credit for (tight spaces and build up in phase 1); yet he doesn't need to be Jorginho as Arsenal already have him to! I know this video is from a year ago; yet it is funny how things come full circle as Man United and Chelsea were never in the picture.
what a prediction mate, spot on👏
dribbling CDM is very unique trait imo the best i've seen but near Kante height was Edgar Davids but Rice at his height and physical style is bit deceptive talent to have in any top team in Europe. Great VIDEO was again bro top self content.
Thing is Davids was at his best as a B2B destroyer - so if we talking pure CDM who dribbled, Redondo is probably the best example. It’s a very rare sight in football.
Wow that was so well explained man, literally had the same feeling for Rice. Great player but other than Chelsea don't think he has mastered that archetype and basics that other team looks for in the CDM role. It's all about transition for the big teams and looks a bit awkward doing that. Not really excited getting linked with Rice, arsenal fan.
You just spent 105mill on him 😢
Brian Clough allowed Roy Keane to play further up the pitch when he arrived at Utd Ferguson in his wisdom moved him in front of the defence and for me stifled him considerably
I really hope Arteta nurtures him and gives him some positive but strict guidance to create an amazing player that he can be. It is amazing what a manager can do for a player's development, and having a team that's already bought into the ideology as well helps ten fold bringing in new supporting cast. Excited to see Arsenal's future unfold in the next year or two. Very promising after "tursting the process". Still love that quote.
Sick analaysis you man, when rice joins arsenal arteta is gnna turn him into a monster
People disrespect players nowadays saying "English overpriced overhyped player", very dumb, actually watch him play, he's QUALITY.

Welcome to Arsenal....you were right about the culture.

@@PythagorasinBoots thank you 👍
He won highest/interceptions in the league last season , completed passes last season only Rodri x holsberg had completed passes as a central defender midfielder . Rice is a top top talent . The only reason teams in Europe aren’t lined up for his signature is because west ham doesn’t want to loose him , so if they gonna do it gonna be for big cheque
Please see my explanation for why his pass % is so high. Check FB Ref for his pressure passes stats. He does not play enough passes in that key zone in front of the CBs compared to the elite holding mids... and Moyes/Southgate aren't the right type of coaches to help him develop in this respect.
@@PythagorasinBoots I’m not saying you wrong ,I’m just trying to say he’s a good cdm especially for those who think he is quite overrated, I’m a big fan of your detailed tactical analysis mate , hope you get my point though
@@PythagorasinBoots when are you going to do rice update pls? Has there has been some improvement in his game now compare to this your video.
I do see this now. If Saka and Martinelli or who have you stay wide, he does seem to pick the easier pass so that could work wonders here
Amazing video. I can see rice developing regista qualities but I don't think he will be able to do it at an elite level like Busquets or veratti. He doesn't have that world class close control and ability to turn under high pressure like they do.
I think he can develop these over time as he showed insane progression in the last 3-4 seasons and he is still very young and raw in some parts of his game. He need to leave ASAP!
I think he can improve in that respect but do not foresee him ever hitting Busquet heights or Verratti level of being able to turn in high pressure situations.
He did a video with some football youtubers, cant remember what channel, but theyve had a lot of elite players come and do trick shots and stuff like that with them and they could not believe his technical ability. He still has a lot of growth potential.

Arteta plans to use him as a flexible libero/inverted cover RB. And, if needed, an attacking double Pivin tougher games
It will never happen now, but Rice - Enzo - Mount wouldve been an incredible midfield
"wrong-foot" is a really odd way to call someones weak-foot tbh. It's almost as if they shouldn't ever use that foot
An excellent tactical analysis of Rice. There were some things that i could not explain that made me doubt his high rating amongst fans. What I see with Rice is someone who is very disciplined in front of the defence breaking up passing lanes, getting great blocks in and making a difference there. Reminds me of Fernando Hierro. I think he's decent going forward, but I don't think he's elite, he looks uncomfortable going forward and his close control is not close. I don't think he's technically good enough to be in a team that has most of the possession as he always looks like he's in a panic when he has the ball at his feet. Because his main attribute is playing in front of a low block then I'd say that rules out most teams who dominate possession. Those aren't the clubs paying £100m. But at Arsenal, maybe it suits them for him to just sit there and spread the ball to either flank when he's broken down possession.
,???
L
It's funny how much Rice has exposed people who have no clue about football
I realy think rice could be a good fit with FDJ for ETH mid at united
Interesting to know where you get your stats from? Regarding goal creation, FBREF has him with 8 goal creations which is FAR more than any of his peers. Also surprised you didnt make more of his yard carried stats, which are MILES better? Finally he is NEVER injured, literally missed one game due to injury in his entire career. GREAT video though!
Wyscout. FB ref has Kante at 0.57 pg which is better than Rice (0.22pg). Tchouameni 0.28pg, Jorginho 0.35pg. So it mirrors what is being said by Wyscout and he isn’t superior as you stated he is?
Also we clearly said he’s the best ball carrying CDM in the world? And no one said he’s injury prone - tbf most of those CDMs on the list are ever present selection wise for the most part.
@@PythagorasinBoots fair point but Kante last season is a bit of an outlier, the previous season he was 0.04, season before that 0.09. I was also looking at comparative midfielder such as Rodri 0.09, Fabinho 0.14, Hojbjerg 0.14, Bissouma 0.17. Who come close to matching Rice defensively. I didnt look at Jorginho or Tchouameni to be honest. Especially as the later plays in a different league, so is really not a solid statistical comparison.
Find your analysis really spot on and have defo learnt a lot about how to judge a players ability from your content. Think I do slightly disagree with you on Rice tho guys got all the ability to succeed at a top club - in fact I think he's already performed at a world-class level - just needs consistency at a top club which I think he'll get at Arsenal. Agree he's not a regista type and certainly isn't a genius in possession like Pirlo or Busquets but I don't think it holds him back as much as you make out - his passing is incredibly underrated and his ball-carrying is maybe his best attribute, understand you made this over a year ago would be interesting to see if you would stick by this rating rn.

I will say this once and only once. Rice is a Chelsea academy player. There is no doubt that he can play that build up role if tasked to. We'll watch him do it at Chelsea and excel without a doubt.

He has listened to your advice. Will Arteta take him to next level?
Rice and Jorginho both at Arsenal.😏🔴👍🏼
when i look at declan rice in a manchester united shirt, i just faintly see maguire
DO MORE CENTER BACKS BRO PLEASE
You know Chelsea has NGolo and Kovacic who are both pretty good at playing from the back. On top of that in the Chelsea system the main mode of play is through the wingbacks since they play a back 3 and also have wide CB who can drive up the pitch on top of spray long passes. There are multiple avenues of buildup play that Declan Rice doesn't have to be the sole guy like at WestHam or England. So the comparison or possibility of him being like Lukaku is heavily overblown.
In the Chelsea system RLC was able to play double pivot when he previously only played higher up. The systems matter greatly.
WestHam use a back 4 and they don't have dynamic wingbacks/Fullbacks. Plus switch plays are more what he'd be required to make given how Chelsea plays with overloads of the forwards and wingbacks leaving the other wingbacks in acres of space. You see this in goal tallies of Reece and Chilwell last season before they both got injured.
Declan Rice will be better at Chelsea than you expect. It's a pretty perfect fit.
How is it a perfect fit? The problem with Chelsea is that our build up play is very labored and our midfield doesn’t create enough. Declan Rice is stylistically more similar to Kante. You wouldn’t want Kante playing CDM.
We need progressives passes between the line, balls over the top, passes under pressure. We don’t particularly need switches to the wingbacks, the CBs do a lot of that already. We also don’t really need more driving runs from midfield, we have too many midfielders that already do that.
@@chrislonfraser9446 That's the system TT loves to play with. Methodical buildup play.
He's mentioned this in interviews
@@sollymadeit but Rice doesn’t do methodical build up play. He doesn’t do build up play really. And what I really meant was that we need killer passes from deep not that the slow build up play is bad, but you need to use the slow build up play to create space for balls between the lines and balls over the top. And Rice doesn’t do that in my opinion. Neither the slow build up or the incisive passing. That’s why I say that he doesn’t fit.
@@sollymadeit ur waffling mate. What Pythag is saying is, that they need a Jorginho replacement whos responsible for ball circulation or what u say "methodical buildup". But thats exactly Rice's weakness. As the other guy already said, Rice is more similar to Kante, so buying him with the intention to replace Jorginho is absurd. Kante is also not comfortable playing from the back. I've lost count of how many times he has lost possession in the build up phase this season. TT has said time and time again, that hes best when played more up front, applying pressure and breaking up the opponents build up play.
If he came to Arsenal or City, wonder if he plays as a 6 role or as a 8. His 2 main weakness are the build up play (what the 6 must be good at) and the end product (something the 8 must be good at). Don't know really where people see his potential, my guess is if he came to Arsenal he would play in the Xhaka role,.We would defend out of posession in a double pivot with Rice and Partey, so he can use his tackling skills there alongside any other moment we press. In possession Rice can bomb forward and not worry about the build up with Partey/Jorginho and Zinchenko doing that part for him. Wonder if he will get better in tight spaces because Arsenal faces a lot of low blocks, dribbling in tight spaces is a must. Long shots you can always train, agility has a lower ceiling of improvement. Probably a case of being an 8 until he is 28 and becoming a 6 later on in life.
What do you think @Pythagoras in Boots?
