In the summer of 2023, Arsenal finally got their man, Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal and the rest of the club hierarchy had been after the former West Ham United captain for many transfer windows.
A British transfer record secured Rice’s services. But how did the transfer happen?
Jordan Campbell and Roshane Thomas explain, Craig Silcock illustrates.

Hard not to like Rice as a person, seems like a genuine average guy but somehow never puts a foot wrong. While that seems like an awful lot of money for his footballing abilities, I wish him all the best as a human.
Arsenal got their pants pulled down doing such a "deal". West ham & the agents both laughing their way to the bank 🤡.
@@williampotato1221 city made two offers. Bayern reportedly had an interest too. Of course, you could act giga-brained and claim it was just to mess with Arsenal, which would also be pure conjecture.
as a person? man changes nationalities like the weather
@@liesidewaysCity made a single bid and think he’s not worth more, Bayern ain’t paying £105m for a mildfielder, they ain’t even paying that for Kane who’s a world class striker.
"Genuine Average Guy"😂
As an Arsenal fan, this next phase of the club's development both excites, and scares me. Cautiously optimistic.
As an Arsenal fan, you're not one of us.
@@JS_246he's right. You don't have a stable midfield. You don't have a top class ST. Your defense has mistakes in it and you are already trying to upgrade between the posts because Ramsdale just isn't good enough.
@@JS_246 lol 😂 my sincerest apologies, Don Raul Kroenke.
@@MemesOfProduction69 how wrong could you be?
@@MemesOfProduction69 Ramsdale is the most valuable keeper on the planet according to CEIS. He's a world class distributor. You're just upset that two top class keepers will be at Arsenal and that they're doing bits this window.
Depressed West Ham fan here. I honestly wish him the best but I can deny how difficult it was to see him go, even though it was on the card for months
Think he handled it with class myself, and made sure the club was handsomely rewarded. Hopefully you’ll make some good investments with it
It’s okay bro. I think every fan has to go through this atleast once. Mine, was seeing hazard leaving for real madrid. Fortunately for me, he wasn’t at his best in RM 🎉 kinda sad for him but kinda good for me atleast RM didnt get to taste the power of Hazard
He’s a top guy off the pitch. Excited as an arsenal fan. Best of luck to the hammers 🤝
Why you got 100 million for a player that’s worth 50 you should be dancing in the street.
@@HdHd-hp6qz I’ll dance in the street if we use it to buy someone decent, so far we’re just losing players
This guy is going to be an Arsenal captain. He's absolutely amazing. As a Chelsea fan I am so regretful
caicedo is 10x the player rice is. its just because hes english and was the captain of west ham he cost so much. lets hope chelsea secure caicedo.
We already have Ødegaard as our captain
@@Hourani95 Wrong, but believe what you want.
@@Smellybridge99 i agree, he is wrond, caicedo is at least 20x the player rice is
@@Hourani95different style of player hard to compare, they both have world class qualities
It makes me so happy to see that my beloved club is in such good hands. Arteta is so intelligent and is so passionate towards his work and towards Arsenal as a club. Win or lose i know that every single person in the club gave it their all.
The fact that he showed up ( both in leadership + form ) , during the business end of the season for west ham shows the reason why arsenal and arteta in particular wanted him .,...
As an Arsenal fan this was one of the most frustrating sagas I'd had to endure but im so glad we signed him.
wut.... we signed him so early in the transfer window - there was barely any waiting, compared to previous seasons.
Are you even an Arsenal fan?
@@JS_246they had their eyes on him for years.
As a West Ham fan I am eagerly awaiting Rice’s replacement
it took 3 weeks, you're a child
You must not remeber the Higuain/Suarez summer. And that's just off the top of my head.
There's been a lot more frustrating sagas over the years, this is not even close!
I think you missed that Bayern was also very interested in Rice and there were meetings between the parties, but Rice decided that he did not want to leave England or London for that matter.
Showing the usual ambition from a British footballer!
@@drunkenhobo8020or maybe he’s settled with very young kids and would prefer not to have the upheaval at this stage? You’re acting like most German players don’t play in Bundesliga, most Spanish in La Liga, most Italians in Serie A…all those nationalities tend to play in their home leagues and nobody ever says anything about it
Sounds like a modern day Roy Keane with less aggression. Box to box midfielder with great leadership qualities. A future Arsenal captain.
Glad to have a video where I can not only see the visuals but also hear what TiFo have to say.
If you know, you know.
Arsenal paid West Ham £105 million, they formalised a playing contract and then Rice transferred from West Ham to Arsenal
And that would just make a comment but they wanted a video for this week 😂
True story. Haha
Must be desperate for content ffs, talking like it's the first transfer ever
I’m laughing at those who still don’t believe that Tifo are paid by Arsenal to put content out. These CZcams channels for leveraged to influence opinion. Only fools believe otherwise.
In the realm of English football, one cannot help but observe that certain players (mostly UK born) often receive undue adulation, and their valuations tend to soar beyond reason. Consequently, their careers become burdened with prematurely cultivated lofty expectations, ultimately leading to a lamentable decline before they even reach their prime.
It's just because premier league teams have a home grown player rule
More that they tend to receive unnecessary hate just because of their nationalities and price tags, especially from the anti-England crowd that seize on every chance to mock them and call them overrated or overpriced, that puts on more pressure than anything else.
Also why do you sound like you swallowed a thesaurus😂
You don't know how good Rice is until he's vital for your club.
Bergkamp was and remains the biggest signing ever for Arsenal. His impact at the time and subsequent success took them to a completely different level on the world stage.
Also, it’s the only reason Bruce Rioch is allowed a mention in their history.
It's crazy signing average player for 105m e
What did Arsenal do on this "world stage" ??
And I'd argue that half a dozen players from that era are just as important if not MORE so than Dennis even tho the Dutchman is my personal favourite
Henry?
@@alpFiLaWhat club do you support ?
@@shadibrahim1489 Henry turned out to actually be one of the most important signings for Arsenal, but he didn’t arrive with hype. In fact, look at some of the old news clippings when he arrived. Unproven Juve flop. The rest was history.
He seems like such a wonderful person. I wish him the best at Arsenal.
I love this channel so much, its so informative and as an Arsenal fan myself I learn alot so thank you so much!
Gonna be interesting to see if he lives up to it, tbh i hope the kid does cause seeing Arsenal compete with City was just what the Prem Needed, even if it didn’t come off.
It was the drawing of the brain and heart holding hands that won Declan Rice over
Please make an episode on mikel obi transfer saga between man utd and chelsea in 2005,and what transpired.
arsenal are so well run that even ppl don't realize that the club are actually stable financially
Definitely a future manager type of player
As an Arsenal fan ive learned to never be confident but man this season im optimistic AF!!!
It is so interesting to see how that midfield works
I used to dream about times like this
Took a moment to find the right words for this vid, eh?
Surprised there (from my scan) weren’t any mentions of that from the video uploaded earlier today. It’s almost as if people comment immediately before watching the content. 🤔
What happened?
Whats the diffrence with the previous one?
Guys, the earlier one didn't have audio lmao
Football transfers have become like some intricate arms race!
Can’t actually describe how happy I am that he’s an Arsenal player. Finally making big transfers again. Until recently we’d have sat and watched him go to City, Liverpool, Chelsea etc and gone for a cheaper alternative who simply isn’t as good
Arsenal spent £72m on Pepe.
Rice isn’t a big transfer you just spent big on a good player at best.
It's easy to forget Arsenal did also beat the likes of Manchester Utd and Bayern Munich to the signature of Declean Rice. He will undoubtedly transform Arsenal in the midfield this season!
Easy to beat when you overpay.
Next up: “How Steve bought a 10 pack of fish fingers from Aldi for £1.79”
This channel is awesome.
Rice is captain material . Good buy from Arteta
It's one of the two isn't it? *"Good buy Arteta!"* OR *"Goodbye Arteta!"*
@@JS_246 lol . Its a coin toss
35-45 mil max for this kind of player ... arsenal was robbed hard
@@salecousin5470oh dear, you don't know ball...Declan Rice, what a baller
Who voices these video I enjoy your videos and commentary
A lot of leaders in this Arsenal side and a lot of young players too. Great mix and with Man City being a weaker side this season, could really be their year!
What a classy dude.😎😎👌🏾
I was wondering if there was a new experimental format😅😂
Ah vocals finally!
I hope he will rice and shine at Arsenal
While everything in the video makes good sense, I also think the fact that both he and his long term girlfriend (and baby) are Greater London born and raised was important.
That's a nice parting gift from Rice to West Ham - 105 mil plus Europa League football. They should be hanging up his jersey from the rafters.
Best #6 itw by this time next year
Words!
Tell us about caicedo to Chelsea crazy saga
Rice is young, strong snd smart. He is "an Arsenal player". The fact arteta idendified him to be top priority makes me thing Arsenal will be competimg for everything in the next seasons.
Putting reinforced steel in the midfield is never a bad thing-how do you put a price on that?
It's weird than a transaction over £100m having some due diligence is considered slow. That's a lot of money and obviously going to affect cash flow, of course it needs to be looked at from multiple parties before being made
Is this a reupload? Why do I feel like I have seen this video before?
It’s 3/25/24 and Rice is one of the best signings in Arsenals history since Patrick Vieira !!!!! Solid, more reliable injury wise than Partey, can take corner kicks, score goals and has legendary potential with Arsenal and England.
Arsenal aren’t just going for talent but also leadership qualities, personality and monster mentality.
*Tifo video ends*:
"......THE ATHLE-"
1:20 looks like a good midfield trio
I already know how Arsenal signed him: they offered a contract that no one else was willing to match. Arsenal wanted him. He liked what they represented. Easy peasy....
I don't think we need a "how".. more than a "why"
2:56 waffling
8 months later and this seems to be a bargain for a player who's always fit and one of the best.
Think you've given the answer in the title
I hope he can adapt to being little fish in the ocean after being big fish in the pond, he's majestic though, so he should adapt. Future England captain !
Fast forward 7 months and second option Jorginho has been an absolute bargain 😂
65 Million for Harvertz is crazy business!
Aha the silent video has been updated 😂
Is there sound this time?
Please make a video about Ki Klaksvik, they deserve it
Brighton will push Chelsea to buy Caceido for the same price
Edu n arteta rizz
What happened at 05:29? - A remark pushed in the sentence? :D
Tbh, i don’t think that Man City were actually going to get Rice but push the value up.
The gunners fan expect a lot from RICE to do well and perform well. The big money signing made by Arteta and hoping RICE would do well and not flop. He needs to prove his worth that he is actually 105 mil player worth or not.
Sure, 'outbid' Man City. City were never interested but wanted to drive up the price.
Expect to see "but Arsenal paid £100m as well" as part their FFP charges 'defence'.
😂😂 Whenever u didn't get the player
Say you weren't interested 😂😂
we are fine w ffp, you are projecting
We didn't outbid City, they just splashed some cash in hoping they could get the player. It just shows you what other clubs are up against, a limitless supply of state owned money which most people consider to be cheating, Chelsea aren't much different in getting Russian blood money.
Being able to beat Man City to the transfer is a huge achievement for Arteta and shows that being detail-orientated is the way to take them on.
Honestly don't think they even wanted Rice tbh. Already have KdB, Silva, Kovacic, Rodri, Stones.
@@Zyzzbrah69you don’t in a bid for players you don’t want
@@harleyokeefe5193 You do if you are one the best teams and want to screw over your rivals. City have done quite a few times especially to United when they forced them to go overboard on Harry Maguire and Alexis Sanchez.
Warra trophy
@@taliamason7986 The privilege of having an oil state fund you, as you are able to just casually bid 90+ mil for players who can help your rivals. Who says that Man City haven't cheated? they have a clear unfair advantage.
Hope he better not disappoint arteta then. 😭
He could have signed for AI-Ronaldo''s team if the project wasn't self explainatory
They probably paid £105m which West Ham accepted I’d assume
This is just reading out the athletic article
lot of effort for not much result
Even rice himself is amazed at how much arsenal overpayed him
I thought the question should be why
*A NEW CLUB TRANSFER RECORD*
Next season we will see either Arsenal's Rice or Chelsea's Enzo worth that 100M
Well, I think we know which one it is now.
It’s funny how when it’s arsenal, the add ins are added to the conversational cost of the player by the media but when it’s Liverpool, city, United or Chelsea, the media reports the transfer fees as perpetually lower every time they talk about them.
Its funny how u pretend to forget that when Haaland came despite the transfer fee, the media mostly talk about how big his salary and the agent fee were.
@@therion451 haven’t forgotten at all. Funny how you’ve forgotten that city have over one hundred charges of breaches of financial fair play and bribed their way out of it before. Buying trophies and yet can’t fill a stadium.
City just drove the price up on him
Mbappé should take Rice as a role model
Odd title. He's a great player and all. But how they signed him is that they offered the most money and only had to compete with one other bid from one other team...
did you watch it lol? The outlined in a presentation what his actual role would be and sold the role to him far better than other teams
@@MrTwat144 Yep. Did you read my comment? I said odd title. Not odd arguments in the video
@@TurtleFPLyeah but it’s just unnecessary to comment if you watch the video
@@reganjordan5091 I'd disagree
When Arsenal knock & we TRULY want you, It's different.
How Arsenal signed Declan rice for 105m is by paying 105m btw
Edu Gaspar is one of the best in the world right now. Such professionalism.
It's Arsenal's time.
So its going to be a 433 next season with rice, havertz, odegaard as the triangle. Interesting.
Rice is definetly an upgrade to xhaka but we'll see how arsenal do next season
He better not flop
Arsenal have broken the English transfer Record
🔥🔥🔥
Also havertz is playing well as the 9
The question is not How...it is why
This should be titled how West Ham sold Declan rice for £105m ….
The away kit would actually look great if it was black and yellow and not neon vomit green.
8 months later worth every penny so far
More like "How did West Ham sell Rice for 105m?"
Man City we’re never serious about getting him
"a nEW tRaNsFeR rEcOrD" 😅😅
Too be fair they never technically outbid Man City, just that City thought he wasn’t worth that much and so they walked away
we must thank city.. 😂😂
They could have bought Ugarte for half that money. They would get a much better player.
As a liverpool fan, idve paid anything to get him
So you’re saying he is worth three macallisters ? We paid 35 million for macallister who is arguably a better player.
@@HdHd-hp6qzlol, how are you this clueless about the game? There are lots of Mcallisters in the world. His profile is a dime a dozen.
