Dude you don't know how helpful this, no one could find out what's wrong with my 2011 jetta, after 10 months and over 30 times in the shop and 9k later I find the throttle body is cracked and everyone overlooked it, gonna be doing it myself
That's awesome you discovered the problem! These moments are the reason why I do this... . Thanks for watching!

His car hasn’t turned off yet right now it’s jerking and hesitating when driving out the epc light would come on and then go off and also the check engine light is on.
What type of scanner do you have I want the same one 😩
Here's the updated version of the one I was using. Still 20 bucks though

@@HowIDoItFaM done. Is there a popular aftermarket brand I can check out for VW throttle body? I have 2009 passat
This is the one I used.
It's been about 10,000 miles later and everything is running smooth

What kind of scanner do u have??
My 09 Beetle with the same motor is throwing P0122 as well, alongside with P0735. EPC light, ABS, Check Engine, and PRNDS lit up. Will only accelerate up to 20mph and wont engage into reverse. should i replace my TPS?
I can't really diagnose, unless I'm there in person. What I can tell you that's exactly what mine was doing with the P0122 code. It was in limp mode ( no acceleration, epc light, and check engine). I didn't try to go in reverse so I don't know if that functioned or not.
I have a feeling ( like I said I'm not there so I can't diagnose properly) that p0735 ( can't go into 5th gear or incorrect shift ratio) code is related to you being in limp mode due to the P0122.
Replacing my TPS solved my issue. About 3,000 miles later and no problems or lights on the dash.
Great video very informative, thank you so much, will the same process work on a 2013 Passat?
Appreciate that! And thanks for the sub. Yessir it should be the same as long as you have the same engine 2.5L 5 cylinder engine.
My “EPC” light came on wile driving home but also my fuel gage was going down to showing empty and coming back up to the regular level showing that I have fuel ? Any advice on what coul it be I have a 2015 Passat tsi 1.8
Since I'm not there in person I can't diagnose it properly. To me it sounds like your fuel sending unit (in the tank) may be having issues. That can definitely cause that epc light to come on.
Does this apply to Vw Jetta 2012 2.5L?
I’m having EPC light come and car goes in limp mode.
They want to rip me off saying it will probably be the computer 700.
This same issue happened to me four years ago with previous Jetta I’ve had.
Ended up selling it for nothing 😢
I can't diagnose it properly since I'm not there. With that being said thats the same engine that's in my 2012 passat and it has all of the same symptoms mine displayed. So I would say more than likely this is your issue. It's a fairly common issue with these vw's.

So I'm having the same code in my 2012 vw passat. After you installed it what did you have to do to make your car relearn the throttle body, or did you just drive it normally and it drove just fine
Thanks for watching! There was no relearn process for me. Just drove it normally.

Did the Epc light ever come back on after you replaced the throttle body ?
Nope. I've put about 2k miles on it since then. No lights so far.
I bought my wife the same car a 2012 passat I change spark plugs and the coils as well I’m going to do the throttle body as well did that code ever come back on or was it a good fix ?
We've put at least 25k miles since this repair no codes or check engine lights. I need some brake pads though 😑
Can i ask was the car rough idling prior to changing the throttle body change
Nahh, it wasn't doing any of that. Soon as the car detected something was up with that sensor, it put its self in limp mode.
Thanks for making this video bro - Question: I have a 2013 with the 2.5, throwing the same lights and codes. Shop near me told me that I have to program the throttle body upon replacement, or I'll have the same issues. Is there truth to this and is this a process I can handle myself? I plan to order a new throttle body from RockAuto.
Thanks for watching
After I replaced my throttle body. There was no reset procedure needed. All I did was clear the codes with my cheap code reader from Walmart and 30k miles later still rolling strong.
@@HowIDoItFaMthanks for the reply sir, all the best to you.

What do you think about the quality of the throttlebody you installed? I looked at getting one that was an OEM replacement and several of them are $400 plus. Is there a real difference?
30k plus miles since I installed the Amazon throttle body . Still going strong
@@HowIDoItFaM awesome. Thanks man
How do you find the reliability of the Passat in general? Do you still have the Buick kickin around?
Yep buick still going strong.
The Passat is cool. The only issue I've had so far is this throttle body issue. I got it @ 40k and just cracked 100k this week. Pretty good power coming out of that cylinder. Pretty good gas mileage too. I'm a have to do some struts soon though.
@@HowIDoItFaM That's great, I've heard pretty good reviews from that era of VW.
A great designed vehicle made on a budget is the best way to describe it. Which is really what its meant to be. I can definitely see that now after riding in some of these high end Audi's.
@@adamenroute3800 VW is trash. I wouldn’t buy one at all. Stick to Japanese
I’m laughing I have a 2003 Alero Oldsmobile I still drive. Had a 2013 vw Passat that diesel but it got totaled. I now have a 2019 vw Passat Wolfsburg edition and my car just did this. Thank goodness I’m still under warranty because of mileage
Have you changed your tires
Just got a set not to long ago
what would cause jerky shifting when accelerating after a turn at like 1k rpm?
Oh man.. That could be alot of things. Starting off with the smallest thing. Are there any check engine lights or codes?
@@HowIDoItFaM usually cylinder 1 misfire. no trans codes.
@@kumbackquatsta that cylinder 1 misfire is real suspect. That can definitely cause some jerking action.
@@HowIDoItFaM do you think it's a bad coil? i replaced all plugs and coils, maybe 20k miles ago
@@kumbackquatsta something is definitely causing that mis fire.... easy way to check would be to move that coil to another cylinder and see if the code follows it to that cylinder....
I'm having the same issue with my vw passat 2012. Changed throttle body with no success. changed the accelerator pedal sensor with no success. The mechanic is saying it could be an ecu/ecm issue
theres also commonly a problem with the harness connection itself to the throttle body
Brother how has it been after you replaced it was it actually that??
Yessir... Been rolling ever since no lights. I've put at lest 3k on it since then. No lights. Driving excellent.

Thank you brother for the info I couldn’t find nothing ha well not explaining like you did thanks alot brother
My 2013 Passat SE 2.5L had the engine light coming on for weeks at a time then going off for weeks for about a year. Checked the codes and indicated O2 sensor bank2 (rear). Kept driving it and finally the EPC came on - and the limp mode. Being told it's prolly the throttle body TPS causing the O2 sensor to go off? Also told that what causes this TPS fail is the PCV valve - now integrated into the valve cover - that goes bad and allows oil to accumulate inside the throttle body and into the intake manifold.- causing the sensor to eventually fail. PCV valves used to be a $20 item. Now they want like $500 for the valve cover with integrated PCV valve. Have quotes of $2k to replace all this stuff including a $450 estimate just for the throttle body and installation. They're even quoting $460 for the O2 sensor replacement! This is a $30-40 item on AMZN and the Throttle body is $60-90 on same! O2 sensor is literally just ONE bolt holding it into the exhaust pipe and an electrical connection you plug in! Man these guys WAY overcharge,..
That's exactly why I started making videos. I understand some things require a more professional fix, but certain things like some of the ones you mentioned, no way. Those prices you were saying do sound ridiculous.
@@HowIDoItFaM Has your Throttle body replacement held up or have the EPC & engine lights come back on?
Almost 10k miles since the repair. No check engine light and no epc.
@@HowIDoItFaM Cool. I think its the TPS sensor attached to the throttle body that goes bad. Other code mine's been throwing is the "bank 2" O2 sensor which is likely being caused bt the TPS being defective. Will find out in a week when my new TB arrives... Thanks so much for your help.
@@tomjones3907 yep that's exactly what it is. The sensor goes bad. It's a shame that you can't just buy the sensor. Yes that o2 sensor code sometimes can be a gremlin.

Is the relearn procedure the same as programming and calibrating?
Fortunately I didn't have to do any relearn procedure other than clearing the codes out of the system. I did that with my scanner tool.
@@HowIDoItFaM cause my fiancee’s aunts boyfriend told me that it has to be recalibrated and programmed or else it will mess up the entire car which makes no sense to me because it is throwing the same code as you and all u had to do was clear it out with the scanner
What year and model is your vw?
If it's like mine. There was no Relearn procedure needed. I haven't had any codes or anything since I changed the throttle body.
@@HowIDoItFaM 2012 Passat SE
@@duhhfy2999 I didn't have to do a relearn procedure with mine just cleared the codes and was fine. We have the same year and model.
I changed my throttle body and went to get the codes erased but no codes showed up. Do you think there’s another way for me to take the epc off ? I have a 2011 vw Jetta sel i changed the throttle body, crankshafts, spark plugs, fuel filter and fuel pump. I know some of this doesn’t take part on the eos or maybe it does….but I need the code off already I don’t like to see light on my dashboard 🥲 if you can please help thank you
Hmmmmm. I used a odb 2 reader from Walmart to clear mine after the throttle body install. And haven't seen it since. Where did you go to get your codes checked?
@@HowIDoItFaM my step dads mechanic. He had the computer but said no codes was showing up
@@gaby133 how is the car since you've changed the throttle body?
@@HowIDoItFaM it still acts the same. It turns off whenever I’m at a red light or when I try to slow down to make a turn. Sometimes when I try to turn on my car it makes a noise like it doesn’t want to fully turn on. I honestly don’t know what else it could be I keep saying it might be my alternator or battery but everything turns on. I know I have a sensor to connect the throttle body could that be the issue ?
@@HowIDoItFaMI also don’t have any lights on my dashboard once the car is fully turn on. But when it isn’t fully on the engine light, battery and epc light is on
Omg!!! This same thing is happening to mf boyfriend 2011 Passat cc! He thinks it’s something else but I keep trying to tell him it’s the throttle body! I’m going to get the part and change it myself and see if it work!
Ayyyyyee if his symptoms are anything like mine hopefully this fix will take care of it.

Today I washed my engine and covered air intake with the sponge, when I finish, I forgot to take out the sponge from the intake system and start the engine and the EPC appeared. I drove to home and the RPM was maximum 2k so what should I do, anyone knows? Thank you so much 🙏
Did you find and remove the sponge?
@@HowIDoItFaM yes sir. I did. but after removing rpm still didn't get over 2k
@@gigakokoladze it's hard to diagnose since I'm not there in person. It's stuck in limp mode because of the restriction caused by the sponge. Sounds like you may need to do a reset . Would you happen to have a obd2 scan tool? If not there is another way to do it with gas pedal. Also if you're near a autozone or similar store they can clear the codes for you.
@@HowIDoItFaM Thank you so much. I will go to my friend tomorrow and do some scan 🙏I will let you know what is the problem 🙏
@@HowIDoItFaM How can I reset with the gas pedal?
I did this and my epc is still on Idk what to do
Dang... Have you ran codes again?
@@HowIDoItFaM yeah I did multiple times. I got it off now, turns out it was my pedal commander and probably didn’t need to spend money lol
