That first one was near impossible.
I really like the idea of song-guessing contests based on just one instrument of the song, instead of shorter-and-shorter excerpts of the full song. This has the nice side-effect of drawing attention to what each instrument does and how it contributes to the song.
+1
Song 10 guess was your mother should know 😂
@@adamgalambos8137 Me too :-)
Yeah. Especially since multiple times Beadle played me PRE-SONG SILENCE.
To me it’d be more satisfying if you would play a clip of the song that ties it to the hint!
It would be cool to hear after the isolated part, the same part but in the context of the whole song
Probably can’t cos of copyright
Yes. I would say hearing it in context should be mandatory! This was a “no-payoff” type of quiz.
Oh, and I don’t think it’s a copyright violation to use a short segment for educational purposes
@@spareplanet it should be under fair use but the CZcams copyright claim system is complicated, and Universal Music are particularly known for unfairly taking down videos
I agree with that sentiment. Presenting the full mix of the section used as the “isolated instrument” example would put the “isolated” little bit of the song it into its intended perspective.
Copyright dear.
Hearing the separate parts really helps one appreciate the genius of those four lads together.
Four lad plus George Martin
You mean the 3 geniuses and ringo
@@meciocio That's my new Beatles tribite band name!
@@meciociowatch the video on guessing the song from the drum part and you'll realise what a genius Ringo is.
@@stracepipe if he was such a genius he wouldn't have released the worst solo album of all the Beatles members
For anyone wondering about the happiness is a warm gun organ part... It's in the first 15 secs of the song. Depending on which official mix you have heard/ are used to, it's a little more tricky to hear. The pre rock band mixes (the original mixes and remasters before 2009) have it tucked very quietly behind John's guitar part in the very first section... almost to give it a more ethereal/swirly sound... now that you are aware of it, go back and listen to those older mixes, you can't miss it... then with the rock band/post 2009 mixes, it's been up front and on its own ever since and can hear it clear as day... just a testament to how amazing the beatles engineers were
Yeah, you can just barely hear John in the background singing the words "misses much".
Ok, I am a 56 year old man who grew up hearing the Beatles and I have studied their music avidly for many years. I don’t know how old you are, but I admire the hell out of how much you know about them. Just in the first few songs you already referred to Eric Clapton playing the guitar solo and Mal Evans counting in day in the life. That’s not just knowing the songs, that’s knowing the Beatles. Hats off to you.
Thank you 😊
Those are pretty common knowledge among beatlesians but David is still one of the most expert I know ❤
Video idea: guess the beatles song by their backing harmonies/vocals!
Yes! If it's You Won't See Me, I'll get that one right away--what great harmonies!
That would be quite hard to do I believe, as there's almost no isolated backing vocals available by the band, and the technology for isolating them is still limited compared to vocals as a whole or any other instrument
Yess!!!!
@@rbstems Yeah, plus the harmonies have words to them!
too easy maybe? depends
This was fun! For the next edition, I'd love to hear the full section of the song after the song has been revealed so we can hear it in context. Maybe that was left out due to copyright claim reasons, but it would make the video that much better
You nailed it. Copyright.

I want to see Paul McCartney and Ringo take this quiz! I got most of them wrong, I can't believe it. Maybe 3 out of 18.
I've just tried the first, and my guess is "Tin Soldier" by the Small Faces. I strongly suspect I'm wrong. 🙂
@@daleviker5884 I'm afraid so, it's obviously "One Tin Soldier Rides Away" by Coven.
Wow - been a fan since 1963 but these isolated tracks make me realise their (inc. G.Martin) genius over again. World's greatest band ever.
I really got naffed up on 15. I could have sworn it was "Blue Jay Way" when it was "Happiness Is A Warm Gun". The fastest I guessed was "Here Comes The Sun". But many were real tough. And I should know better as I got most Beatles albums when they were first released. Good quiz. Thanks. 🎶🎵
This showcases the sounds so well. There is a lot of stuff in there I've never heard before. It demonsrates the care went into each of the songs!
Absolutely. Somewhere on CZcams is a video of the entire Abbey Road album with just the bass parts highlighted, and even though I thought I knew that album inside out, there were certain things Paul played that I had never picked up on before. This band just had endless nuance. That’s why they’ll live forever. There is always so much more to discover, in the midst of the familiar.
@@mjcosgrove I have heard the 'I Want You' bass part isolated -- If you think Paul is playing the same thing over and over, boy are you wrong.
This makes me wonder: Which Beatle wrote the most songs in 4/4 ‘shuffle-beat’? Paul? Which Beatle wrote the most 6/8 songs, John? Which Beatle wrote the most 3/4 waltz-time songs, George? “Each Beatle’s time-signature tallies”
I think you might have nailed it there.
John: I think of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away and Norwegian Wood.
Paul: Fixing A Hole, Penny Lane.
George: not so sure here, but I Me Mine is definitely in waltz time.
The only George song that appears on one of their albums is long long long so I wouldn't say that he was the one using 3/4 the most in the group
@@tonybates7870well I would say that Norwegian Wood and I Me Mine is in the same time signature with them being felt similarly and played at a similar tempo
I've enjoyed this whole "guess the song" series, David, but this episode was especially fun! I also amazed myself by getting 12 of 18. 😊 Funny thing, though, I also tend for some reason to mix up "Fixing A Hole" and "Getting Better" and always have, though I love them both. Great series!
So do I.
11:17 this is a testament to how good the beatles are. Not only did I not recognize it from "Happiness"... but what a haunting and beautiful organ part. Really crazy how those guys came up with all these little parts.
Never heard that part of the song before. It's really low in the mix. It's one measure of 6/4, then one measure of 2/4, then repeated. So it meshes perfectly with four measures of 4/4. That's unbelievable. I did recognize it, but thought it might be later in the song.
I genuinely thought that was Radiohead (which, given it's David Bennett video, wasn't entirely out of place).
Unlike your other quizzes, this one was split between very easy (e.g., “Walrus,” “Strawberry Fields,” “Let It Be”) and nearly impossible (e.g., “Sgt Pepper” “Here Comes the Sun”) clips. I got 8 as well, missing “O Darling” but immediately recognizing “Help.”
I really have thought that the "Here Comes the Sun" clip was the easiest of the lot, to be honest!
@@RCassinelloyeah I thought the same. It's the sound you hear right before George starts singing.
I got 17/18. SO CLOSE!!!!!! 😡
Which one didn’t you get?
17/18 is famously jay foreman’s favourite time signature
Oh wow, it's a crossover episode.
I would suggest that we should do one of these Beatles quizzes together as a collab video, but I already know who will win! 😅😂
Bull
I got all of them on this one. I'll only say that I probably wouldn't have got the first one, but you can clearly hear John saying "shoot me" in the background and a hint of the drums, which gives it away. The Beatles are my favourite band and I know how to play all of the songs featured in this one on guitar, so that helps a lot.
Amazing! Congrats! 🤩🤩🤩
Yeah I thought I was crazy, being the only one able to hear the bleed through.
Me too but the first one almost stumped me, and I only recognised you never give me your money because of the notes. I’ve never heard that bell in the song before ever
How the hell did you get Come Together? Hats off to you.
Same. That’s the only way I got that one. And for “Happiness Is a Warm Gun” I heard “misses much.” Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had a chance.
The clip from I Want To Hold Your Hand is beautiful, crazy how many amazing melodies are relatively hidden in these songs
Please do more of these! The isolated instrument has been my favorite quiz so far, and there are so many more songs you can do!
Hi David, this was my favorite quizz so far, i'd be happy if you just did another one like it, with isolated clips!
Was just going to suggest this (even though I only got 5 ,with 2 or 3 more from the right album).
Seconded! This was really tough but fun!
Thirded
I think you should do more just like this one. There are so many odd things in the mixes in Beatles songs, you'd never run out of material!
Great videos David! I think that a video of guessing voice harmonies would be fantastic. Thank you!
this is much harder than I thought! nice video!
You can always do more 1 second Beatles quizzes, there are plenty of seconds to work with. And this type too, with individual instrumental pieces. But we definitely want more!!!
12/18, and was absolutely kicking myself on some of the missed ones. Never noticed that keyboard part in Happiness Is A Warm Gun before, but I spotted the odd time signature which should have clued me in to what it was. This was great fun. And you could always do more of these with the isolated instruments. As you say, it's just enjoyable to hear these snippets, regardless of the challenge aspect.
Am I the only one who recognizes them based on the chords?
@@althealligator1467yes actually, no one who will listen to this video which contains many chord progressions will, in fact, use the chords to determine the song
@@austinpriest9830 Not sure whether that was a yes or no lol
This is an excellent idea - the best of the Beatles quizzes - - definitely do this again....so much material to choose from...
I always enjoyed dissecting their music and the way such diverse parts were brought together for the final product.
Lovely video, as per usual! Me myself got 16/18 correct, missing only “You Never Give Me Your Money” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” - not TOO shabby :-)
WOW!! 😲🤩
Smartypants.
Got 15/18, missed "Come Together", "Sgt Peppers" and "Happiness Is a Warm Gun", it was really fun to hear those isolated clips !

That guitar line in Don’t let me down is my crack man. Such a perfect line
That was fun! Very cool to hear those isolated samples.
Very happy to recognize four!
I got Come Together because some of the vocal bled through onto the isolated keys!
Came here to see if anyone else had this cause it stood out clearly to me haha
Dear David, I'm a keen follower of all your videos which never cease to amaze me. Amazing competence, amazing clarity, and such great value for music lovers (especially Radiohead and Beatles!!). Among your recent Beatles song competitions, I'm afraid it's my sad duty to inform you that this is the first one in which I could score a three point advantage over you. Bloody well time, of course, because I've been listening to those songs at least 30 more years than you did. That's the way old cookies crumble, no doubt, so get lost, all you etcetera ... Great work, David!
Hey. I really enjoy your vids and your effort to teach people as I am a music teacher as well.
What about a quiz that is only the bridges of songs? I know you love the Beatles just as much as I do but it doesn’t have to be just them.
Either way, keep it up! You’re doing great! 👍
These guessing videos are awesome! You should do another Radiohead one!😄
Yes please
THIS.
Most were pretty hard for me. I wish we could hear the part of the song from which each clip was taken.
I’d love another quiz like this! It was perfectly challenging .
I would love another 1 second clip quiz. I think this was the most fun so far!
This was the best kind of quiz you presented! I would love to have it as a game!
I think the reason why sometimes there’s more than just an isolated instrument is because of how some tracks were mixed down onto others to open up space because of the limitations of 4 track tape at the time.
13/18 correct! I've listened to a lot of isolated or 'deconstructed' Beatles tracks over the years, which may have given me some advantage, but I felt like the bleed from other tracks also helped tip me off for some of them - I never would have guessed the first one based on those keyboard chords alone if I didn't also hear that distinct flutter delay from another track, for example. Very fun quiz overall, though!
David, I always muddle up "Getting Better" and "Fixing A Hole" myself too 😂 You did a great job on ALL of the quizzes. A joy to watch you. Thank you so much for that.
I love this! Beatles are always a fun topic!
This is very tough
Wow. I smashed you on this one David! Got loads you didn't and most of the ones you did.
Can we just appreciate Johns rhythm work in Help! Having it isolated really makes his playing stand out and much more appreciable. Oh and I think I got about the same score.
Love these Beatle quiz videos!
I dropped 3, which I was pretty happy with.
Love those guessing videos, keep'em coming! Missed the first one just like you (went for don't let me down) and in the end... 17/18. Yay!
I really enjoy these Beatles sample quizzes, great job! I feel this version can easily have a sequel.
Oh, and I finally managed to get a better score (not important, I know)
Really enjoyed that! Got 12/18. And congratulations on being 'OUT' one year!
Hi David. Awesome channel. Great video.
You don't have to do different types of guessing quizzes. You can repeat the types with different songs. The Beatles catalogue is so extensive you should be able to do many of each type.
You could even include their solo material.
Thank you and keep up the fantastic work!
Final proof that RINGO'S drum parts are the most identifiable of all the Beatles recordings...You KNOW right away what songs they are in...
more content like this, David 🙏
I got 12/18. Totally thought the sgt pepper guitar solo was the solo on Taxman. KEEP DOING THESE I LOVE THEM!!! Even if you just have to do sequel videos to the kinds of quizzes you’ve already done, the Beatles have so much music that you can’t go wrong.
Yup. I thought it was Taxman also, a bit of the way into the solo.
Proud to say I got 18 out of 18 songs.
Although I gotta be very honest with you, I almost screwed up three songs:
- On "You Never Give Me Your Money", I initially thought it was either "It's All Too Much" or "Only A Northern Song".
- I was confused by the melody on "Happiness Is A Warm Gun". I knew the tune, but I was mistaking it for "Oh My Love" which is from John's solo career
- The "Fixing A Hole" guitar part really made my brain burn. Initially, I wasn't sure if it was from Revolver or the White album, but then I thought about "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite" and after that I remembered "HEY, it must be Fixing A Hole since the guitar sounds double-tracked". I was about to lose my streak
Interesting, as I only got 5 but Fixing A Hole was easy for me. Well done!!
this was WAY harder than the other ones. Really funny how you either pick it up instantly or doesn't recognize it at all, same with me.
O.k. - I listened without interrupting the video, and within the given time I only just guessed one song right: Here Comes the Sun. Since David was wrong with that song, I am still very proud of it! There were a lot of other songs where I felt that I was very close. Probably I could have achieved some more correct answers if I had stopped the video, maybe listened to the track once more, and taken my time for further thinking.
For sure, I consider this the most interesting of the quizzes about songs of The Beatles. I should be pleased by another quiz of this sort, maybe with a bit longer sections of the songs?
I only missed the first one.
I give extra props to my 10 year old for picking out the end of "Hello Goodbye" before I did!
It also helps to know which songs were in Beatles: Rock Band because that's where these isolated tracks are from.
The first one you can hear a bit of the drums. That's how i recognized Come Together
I got it because I play bass and I play along to it ALL THE TIME.
My answers (11/18):
Song 1: No idea (Come Together)
Song 2: While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Song 3: A Day in the Life
Song 4: Here Comes the Sun
Song 5: Revolution 9 (I am the Walrus)
Song 6: Song on Revolver or Sgt. Pepper Album? (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)
Song 7: Got To Get You into My Life (You Never Give Me Your Money)
Song 8: I Want You (Oh! Darling)
Song 9: Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (Hello Goodbye)
Song 10: With A Little Help From My Friends
Song 11: Back in the USSR
Song 12: Don't Let Me Down
Song 13: Strawberry Fields
Song 14: Help
Song 15: Lennon song from White Album? (Happiness Is A Warm Gun)
Song 16: I Want To Hold Your Hand
Song 17: Fixing A Hole
Song 18: Let It Be
Pretty darn good!
I got 10/18
I was also 11 out of 18 but I got a few different songs right.
Well done!
I also guessed Revolution 9 and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da instead of I Am The Walrus and Hello Goodbye. I guess those are pretty similar songs lol.
I never EVER beat you at these quizzes bit I got 16 and spent much of the video swearing at you for not getting things that sounded obvious to me.
I love these Guess The Beatles Song videos.
This was hard, but definitely cool. You should do more of these, instead of "guess the song from this one particular instrument". This had way more variety, and way more bizarre-ness to it. I only got about half right, but still it was a lot of fun, and very challenging.
8/18 - pretty happy with that! Although, admittedly, I only got Help after you said it could be from that album. I was sat here like “ooh, I think it is actual help you know” 😂
There were also a few others I guessed the album but not the song. And somehow I was singing the actual words for fixing a hole “and it really doesn’t matter, if I’m wrong I’m right”, yet I was wrong and said Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite 😅
I got 5, 6 & 10. Maybe I need to re-familarise myself with the beatles albums. Time to crank the cd player up 😄
The ones I got right: 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 18. So 9/18! Seeing that you guessed 8/18, I'm quite proud of myself lol. Keep up the good work! Cheers from a French Beatles fan :)
I am so bad at this, but stupidly pleased when I get one 😊 Your quizzes are awesome, thank you for doing them, much appreciated 👍
I want more of this!!
17/18, woo! I was able to guess the first one correctly cause I heard a whisper of "shoot," so I figured that was Come Together. Number 7 is where I tripped up, but man that sounds beautiful isolated. Also, the guitar solo for Sgt. Peppers isolated sounds so wicked as well.
Missed the same (and only) one you did.
Beatles song quiz idea: Let a part of the song play backwards and guess what song it is
This is really fun thank you for sharing!
He did that once.

Another great quiz! I watched a vid where he showed the sheet music. That was cool.
That's pretty good considering how little time you had to guess them - I definitely gave myself an extra listen to a couple of them. And I had these songs burned into my long-term memory by repetition when I was a kid, heh
Wow this was hard. I got like… 5 or so, idk. For future videos like this, I actually think you could keep doing this exact format for a bunch more videos. Just keep cycling through different solo instrumental tracks!
This was a fascinating quiz. Props to whoever put this together.
This is the first quiz where I consistently got ones that David didn't, though I still did worse than David overall.
Loved that! The two I got that you missed were Help and USSR - surprised myself a little! Might be fun to see if you can name songs from an excerpt of a cover version, so you can’t base it off time period production clues.
it's easier to guess when there are artefact left of the others instruments. Nice quizz and well done David !
Funny enough I got the 1st one instantly but had no idea on the second one despite it being my most re-played Beatles song😮
I think you could do a RHYTHM game using John's unique strumming in many songs. Now his triplets in ALL MY LOVING? No. Too easy. But listen to his strumming in the last verse of SLOW DOWN. It gives the impression of a freight train or truck going 100 MPH, suggesting it's "moving way too fast" and it should SLOW DOWN?!!! Actually brilliant on his part! Also I believe HARD DAY'S NIGHT features a distinctive rhythm. I would try to limit it to one chord if possible. I'm not going to offer any more here so I don't give all the answers away!
Loved this! Other ideas: Beatles songs that feature people's names (not sure what the quiz would be, though), guess the song by listening to Ringo's drum part alone, guess the Beatles song by listening to one opening note or one second of music, listen to five-second snippets of Beatles songs one after another and place them in the correct album (rapidly).
Very interesting and fun. thanks!
As only a casual Beatles fan, I'm happy with scoring 6 out of 18, I got numbers 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 18 (won't spoil the answers!) correct so some of them were more of the easiesr ones tbf but actually was my best score out of this series of Beatles quizzes surprisingly!
Same count. I got 2, 3, 12, 13, 14, and 18.
You could definitely do plenty more guessing the Beatles song based on the specific part, or even the bassline or drum parts, given that you've only covered a small part of their discography. You could also do like random song lyrics, or maybe rhythm guitar (that would probably be pretty difficult). Then there's always Radiohead 😉
One of the ingredients that goes to make the Beatles so great is the imperfection, that gave the human quality.
Wow, finally I did it! :D This was the first Beatles quiz I managed to beat you in! 11/18
I was waaay behind in all the others.
18/18. Next could be 5-second clips, but backwards and heavily distorted.
Loving these guessing videos. I'm not as good as I wish I was but It's good fun to have a go. 8/18
On "Happiness is a Warm Gun" you could hear just a bit of the vocals bleeding in, "...misses much" And that guitar in "Fixing a Hole" is one of my all time favorite guitar parts in any Beatles song, and one of my favorite Beatles songs...
on the first track, I managed to hear some of the bleed from the vocals so that gave it away for me
If a massive Beatles fan like you can't get them, what chance have the rest of us got?! 😄For once I was close to your score, but that was because you were uncharacteristically dreadful on this one...🤕
I hope you do think up some more audio quizzes though, they are good fun! 👍Thanks David.
It is so pleasing to see a young man like yourself, with such music ability of your own being so into the Beatles. I do well on these, but you always beat me (though I'm 64). Funny, I did better on this than I did on the ones where we knew the instrument we were going to hear. I got 6 of the 18.
Being my favorite band since I was a tot in the 70's, I got 6 right, 6 i bit my tongue for missing, and 6 i was completely dumbfounded by. They layered so much, and had such a thick quality tgat I'd seriously have to see this first hand to believe anyone claiming more than 50% accuracy. They were and are still the greatest, and teaching us still to those that listen.
I think it would be hilarious to guess the beatles song based on an isolated adlib or shout or scream
I want you to do tons more like this one. You can pick other small snippets, ad infinitum. My first Beatle album that I bought with my own money upon release was Peppers......as a result, my incessant replaying of it made all the Peppers songs very obvious. I'm stunned I missed so much from AR.
I missed, of all things, the organ on COME TOGETHER. Also missed
-You Never Give Me Your Money,
-Happiness Is A Warm Gun,
-I Want To Hold Your Hand.
All of the rest were very obvious immediately. More please.
If you listen very carefully to the "Come Together" organ snippet, you can faintly hear the slapback echo from John's "shoot me" in the background between each organ chord, giving the song away.
shoot me. never heard that. I don't doubt you, but I really don't want to ever hear that.@@RobertJeffreyMiller
@@relicofgold I hear you on that. 😔 However, he isn't talking about shooting a gun, he's talking about shooting something else.
Great Quiz, just do it again with more songs!
These are great. Love it, dude. I had an idea for one. Can you do a guess the song based on backing harmonies? Thanks!
