  • What is strategy? Is it a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim? How can designers apply strategic thinking in the creative field? Is that possible? How do you charge for it? Take a look at inputs and outputs to see if you always arrive at the same output regardless of the input.

The future is leading a revolution for millennial and future generational growth in creative fields and business in general. I study what each of these brilliant designers say, and I write down, study and apply everything I can. Chris Do, you may not know me, and most of those who've been impacted by your business and the platform you've developed, but I want to say that one day I hope you get to really see how much you've changed my life, thank you.

I sell calendars i designed and art prints at my store so people are starting to know me.. this guy want me to illustrate a poetry book and animate it.. so I told him about discovery and strategy and told him that would be 2k then we would move into the project and then I asked if that was somthing he could do. And that helped me to find out that he currently can't do that so. So I offered I smaller option to get started with a calendar around his poetry.... it wasn't perfect but I definitely was having an oh crap Chris has told me how to handel this!!

    Its crazy more people who are creatives and entrepreneurs should be here! this should have over a million views.
    Ive been selling since I was a little girl, from my hand drawn Tshirts and designs to left over (but very pretty) perfume bottles my mom would throw away! I have always been an artist but slid a little into sales working in the car business and I went from not knowing how to close deals to top earning sales rep in 2 years out of 400+ sales people! Using the same info you are sharing here. I got trained by super cut throat badger sales teachers but I learned to keep the good and learn from the not so good "tactics" or advice.

  • @arthur1022
    @arthur1022 Před 6 lety +1

    Hey Chris, regarding the 3 price tiers.. would you lead with your highest price (which you had mentioned) and then continue to talk about the output benefits, ignoring the lower 2 prices, until the client starts objecting.... or do you list all 3 prices straight away, giving them a clearer view of their options early on in the meeting?
    I understand the importance of transparency to build trust, but I also understand the need to hold back and not go past the sale.
    And Sarah... I'm in a similar boat as you, so good luck with your venture and when I get more of a grasp of the strategy side, I'll be happy to reach out to discuss further opportunities in the industry. And would also be happy to help out on any design questions you may have!

    One of the questions that was asked in the video that Chris said was a good question was, "how do you work with clients that don't know what they want?" (Paraphrased). One thing that I'm running into at my experience level is actually the inverse... Clients who are adamant they know what they want. Even at my experience level I can usually tell that they aren't basing that on anything factual. So my question is, how do you work with people who think they know what they "need" but in all likely do not have the slightest idea?

    • @anchorpoint7666
      @anchorpoint7666 Před 6 lety +1

      In retrospect, and in full and frank disclosure, I asked this question while watching the video so Chris did answer a bit of this further on. I would still like to hear thoughts on how to respsond to people who already think they know what they need.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  Před 6 lety

      I usually respond, then you would waste money hiring me. you're better off hiring someone to execute your ideas. now, you could still hire me and pay my fees, but you would be wasting what I have to offer. how would you like to proceed?

    When you are helping a business (and you yourself charge for Strategy), you may discover that something that business needs to do is, in fact, also charge for Strategy themselves, as it would certainly help them identify which jobs are right and wrong for both parties. How can you best communicate that they need this feature in their model? (Where one conversation has already taken place and the response is "well we kind of include that in the initial work" or something like that). Blair Enns book is certainly helpful, but how would you do it?

    I have only had the one client as a solopreneur so far. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't an overly positive one as he decided to stop paying me less than halfway through the project. I know that it wasn't down to any issues he had with my work, as he said I was the only person in the area that knew what they were doing.

    My question is:
    If you figure out that what the client needs is beyond of your expertise, and you don't know how much does it cost to hire other professional that will fill this gap, how do you price it?

      I would encourage you to find out how valuable the problem is to the client vs. how much it costs to make. but you can always make a few phone calls and find out.
