    Brilliantly taught...I had to use this knot for a sailing application..and other sites were too confusing; your presentation was perfect.

    havent fly fished in years and I often forget how to do this knot. First time I've ever seen it used to tie on a fly. I like it. Lots of free movement. Very good.

    Wow this is good, the last vid all I heard was "Make a loop, make another loop" Like I was so confused. Glad you showed us with a rope.

    I have used this knot for forty years. Here's a trick if you have trouble containing the loops. I cross the second loop OVER my thumb and around. This allows you to pinch both loops quite easily and leaves a gap to pass the tag end through under the thumb. It also leaves the second loop in ideal position to grasp and pass through the first loop in finishing the knot. That's the way Dad taught me. 🙂

  • @Cardsandstoagies

    This is a great knot to make a dropper off an unweighted nymph if you want the dropper to carry the weight. You can lubricate the knot and pull the tag and it will close the loop or form the knot and keep some extra movement. A bit easier than a clinch knot on the hook bend, but tends to foul up on larger flies, so I go with size 16 or smaller

    So easy to do with the lines this guy does the perfection loop with in this video. Try doing it with 0.14mm diameter monofilament, will probably take a few attempts before getting it (it did with me).

    Isn’t nail knotting your leader better because it travels through the eyes better?

    Don't forget to lubricate the knot before pulling tight.

  • @Oldtech51
    @Oldtech51 Před 5 lety

    Knot is nice looking and is simple to tie. It has one inherent weakness. The geometry of the knot cuts the line into. If high strength is needed a figure eight loop is much stronger.

      Actually the perfection loop had been tested to break at 95% of line strength.

      I just couldn't resist and did a little non-scientific, totally unprofessional, comparative knot testing using a Boga-Grip, a hammock hook attached to a fence post and 12lb test Sunset Amnesia monofilament line.
      This is what I came up with, your results might vary. List is from strongest to least strongest.
      #1 Uni-Knot- 5 turns
      #2 Non-Slip Loop Knot- 5 turns
      #3 Perfection Loop
      #3 Triple Surgeons Loop
      #4 Improved Clinch Knot- 5 turns (knot completely slipped out vs all other knots tested)
      Conclusions:
      1. The Non-Slip Loop beat out the Perfection loop each and every time!
      2. Statistically, The Perfection and the Triple Surgeons Loop have about the same breaking strength.
      3. I've used the Uni Knot in favor of the Improved Clinch Knot for years and will continue to do so.

      Thanks for the results of the test Matthew, I guess its a consideration between the advantages of a well presented ( free moving) fly vs the knot strength.There is always a factor of safety in any knot so based on the above results I plan on giving the perfection knot a go and see if the catch rate increases which might outweigh the occasional break off. Thanks guys great video BTW

  • @hectatusbreakfastus6106

    In case anyone is wondering this knot has a 95% line strength retention. It is one of the strongest loop knots you can use hence why it is appropriately named. Here is a video from Rio where they test the knot and you can see that it's one amazing knot! czcams.com/video/keu5x4R7I6A/video.html

    Hi

  • @kamilponikowski9176
    @kamilponikowski9176 Před 8 lety +1

    Perfection loop is hands down the strongest knot I know. I fish with a leader that has perfection loop, blood knot and an improved clinch in it. Of course I have often had a situation where I get a snag in some deep pool and I have to intentionally break the line. And sometimes the clinch knot breaks, sometimes the blood knot, but NEVER have I ever had the perfection loop break. I would really advise using this knot to attach flies when fishing for sth really big. You said that you should leave a tag while tying the perfection loop and in your blood knot video you said that you dont have to leave tag while tying it. My experience is opposite. The perfection loop is much, much less likely to come undone than the blood knot, so I would say trim the tag flush in perfection loop but leave some in blood knot
