    Macron is right. What's notable is that he's saying it, and that may be because of the luxury of concentrated power enjoyed by a French president. The key is that Russia is not in a position to act against Nato countries, but Russian gamesmanship has Nato countries cowed. As long as Russia is blocked in its efforts to take over Ukraine, the only thing that would lead Russia to attack a Nato country would be a direct attack by a Nato country against internationally recognized Russian territory. In fact, it's difficult to see Russia attacking a Nato country if Nato-supplied conventional weapons were used by Ukraine to attack facilities in Russia that directly support operations in Ukraine. The fear of Russian aggression is so deeply ingrained that it compromises European security, and Macron is right to be pushing back against that fear.

    • @jmhorange
      @jmhorange Před 14 dny

      Yeah this is nonsense. Russia can decide on its own calculus at what point it wants to attack NATO. And what happened to the West saying Russia's not at war with Russia? If French troops are in Ukraine, that gives Putin the ability to say to his people, we are under attack by NATO, there's French troops in Ukraine, we need to fully mobilize to stop NATO.
      And there's no reason why a Russian wouldn't see French troops in Ukraine and fully back a huge mobilization against NATO because they fear their country could fall otherwise and destroy their lives and everything around them.

    I understand the French perspective. While it's not ideal to humiliate the Russians, if Russia continues to humiliate France in African countries like Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, then the French may feel the need to respond. However, the current Ukrainian situation provides a more legitimate context for such a response. Additionally, Russia is certainly aware of the impact its actions have on France.

      Yugoslavia only had a NATO peace keeping force. Yes, they bombed them in the end, but it wasn't a trench war. Afghanistan and Iraq weren't trench wars either. Against Russia it's a trench war. We would easily win a trench war against Russia with NATO. Iraq invasion took 3 weeks and the Afghanistan invasion 4 weeks by the way. We won that very easily with minimal troops. It would be much easier to kick Russia out of Ukraine, because we got the population on our side. They would deal with rebellion forces themselves.

      that peace deal was useless, it was only playing into russias hand. Don't worry about french troops in body bags, Russia and belarus military is so incompetent that the risk for western troops is relatively small. The difference in skill and capability between western army and russian army is so big you have no idea. Judging by what I have seen in the past two years, western militaries can put russia back in its place in a matter of weeks. In a matter of weeks the russian fleets, russian airbases and all other military targets can be destroyed, with hardly any losses on the western side, that's so obvious today. Western armies taking on Russia will be like taking candy from a small child.

    • @WeejimmySnazberry

      Have a read of the peace deal, it would have eviscerated the Ukrainian army to the point that if Russia decided to roll in there would be no defense whatsoever to respond. No one in their right mind would accept that.

We don't want a nuclear holocaust where no one wins. Europeans need to realize Ukraine isn't in NATO. Russia has not attacked any NATO country so Europe is safe.
