Am considering that Blue Nova for my front door next year.
I just purchased a home and am in the process of picking paint colors. I already selected one color and painted one room already. I love that picked a color very similar to "white dove". I selected ALABASTER by Sherwin Williams with "extra white" as the trim/molding color. 😊

We painted the inside of our home “alabaster” and used “white dove” in the bathrooms. 2 years later! Love it! Super easy to layer furniture & colors, and layer holiday decorations. Alabaster is warm and inviting. Love it! So happy with it!

love the colour of the year and the whole palette is gorgeous.
People are rejecting color in home sales. They are also rejecting wall paper. Light neutrals is what attracts most people. Light gray, cream, and white with a contrast of black is seeming to be most popular. No wood colored cabinets, they are painted white or neutral. If color is used, the island is painted a different color (unlike cabinets, islands can be wood colored tho!). Do not let paint manufactures sell you paint just because it is their going color.
I totally agree, and follow that line of logic for investment properties or houses I plan on moving out of soon. However, I really enjoy color so in my current house, where we plan on staying for at least a decade if not thrice that, I enjoy adding color where I want it. Of course understanding that repainting will be a reality when we eventually move out. I may repaint multiple times for my own preferences in that time, so restraining my decisions for a sale that may happen in 10 to 30 years has no point. Again, totally agree with you for homes that are somewhat temporary.
In the not too distant future I will be selling my house so I covered the colors with primer paint. It sucked all the life out of the rooms, it's cold, clinical. Yes, it is a good strategy for selling, living in it is depressing.
White is great when I buy a house. I don't have to prime as much to paint my chosen colors. I have no intention on leaving it white.
For sure. In photos, I love color drenching and moody look. In reality, lighter neutrals are easier to work with, don't feel claustrophobic and don't require multiple layers of paint to cover up when you get ready to sell or just get sick of it. Every time I've painted with an intense color, I always changed to and enjoyed something lighter. I adore this new palate though. Much of it is represented in my existing artwork and accessories. Much easier and less overwhelming.
Who’s talking about keeping the primer on the walls without even one of the hundreds of shades of white? That’s like walking around in your underwear because clothing fashions change.
Hello Lisa! Thanks for bringing up the topic of an accent wall in one of the latest colors! It seems I'm always reading that accent walls with a different color are scorned by professional designers. Thus I have avoided painting one in my home. I am going for it now! Thanks again for the inspiring video!

Every time I get a paint quote, they look at me like I’m crazy when I insist on BM. Don’t understand this at all; it’s thick and beautiful, rich and practical for houses with dogs and many boys. I only buy other brands if I’m desperate and the BM store is closed. Loved this post, although colours seem to drive me into a catatonic state and only a warm white can revive me. Thanks, Lisa!
During lockdown I painted my kitchen a deep turquoise cabinets, upper and lower, wall behind the stove and overhead drop ceiling. Loved it until I didn.t. Now prepping for deep cream (pristine?) and a light latte lower cabinets. Love the spectrum of yellow to rose golds in my old apartment. Love your energy and ideas, refreshing to watch. thank you for you.

Many of these colours have such a grey undertone... Blue Nova looks depressing to me! Loving the Regent Green and Honey Bee.

I love that Blue Nova! I painted my powder room a color that the BM store had to make up to match my wallpaper background. I put it on the wall and fell in love. I called it Charlotte's Gorgeous Blue, or Periwinkle Grows Up and Goes Velvet. I can see why they don't ask me to name their colors. But it is gorgeous! I'll have to send you a picture.

Blue Nova as the Colour of the Year was a little disappointing, in my opinion. Not a bad palette overall but I’m not sure why this particular colour was singled out over some of the other options.

Lisa! Could you make an updated video about kids rooms for different ages?? So many videos focus on nurseries but what are some design rules or things to check in a kids room? What are the trends?

Let the children design their own rooms, pick colors, bedding, etc. It’s their autonomous space outside the trending aspirational logics of the adult house as a whole !
@@honeyrococo I tend to agree, but some kids ( like mine, for instance) ask for help or want a base level done for them. Kids aren't paying for their own furniture or paint, and many aren't setting the layout until they're much older
@@Elemiriel I got to design my own room when I was in elementary school. Of course my mom helped me by taking me shopping and my dad built me a bed and a dresser but I chose all fabrics and paints meaning I had a horrible loud orange room with lime green curtains and bedding and very soon dirty yellow shag carpet and random objects nailed to the walls and I loved it. I think I have very good (and different) tastes today (and sm clearly still into interior design) but super thankful my parents gave me pretty much total autonomy to make my own world rather than using my space to complete their own total house design vision.
@@honeyrococo like I said, I agree with you that kids should be given autonomy in decorating their rooms IF they want it, but not all kids want it. My 5 yo likes having parameters and wants help with the process, because for her, collaberation with me and her dad is the fun part. She helps with all sorts of design projects around the house, but she likes help. I wasn't arguing against your point AT ALL! My point is just that not all kids WANT to make those choices, even though they still want their room to look cool.

White Dove is a very old BM colour.
Benjamin Moore has, and always has had, the best colour palette. Farrow and Ball are also up there, but out of my price range and less easily available.

I’m just happy with the warmth of colors trending. I am not a Grater. I think cool tones are great especially for beach side. But when you live in areas that have lots of trees and green I believe the greys need to be more integrated than as a primary color scheme. Nice color this blue nova and I agree bm is the leader here in the USA. The UK can have its f and b.
I LOOOOVE Blue Nova! My bedroom has been the very similar Stratford Blue for the last decade or so.

The color of the year impacts my life zero bit, lol. It's fun to see what it will be, but that's about it. I like what I like
So....wedgewood blue, butter yellow, dusty lilac, and terracotta. Yeah no thanks, not feeling it. But I tend to think color is for art, or soft furnishings, not walls. 🤔
You'll definitely see more upholstered pieces in these tones as we move along, so yay!

Topaz is the color I liked most!
There are two reasons to follow these trends (called "trends" for a reason...they're *not* classic)...and one very good reason.
1) You're listing your meh, older home in the next few months to sell or
2) You're desperate to appear "on trend" because you think that will make you appear special and hip to others (which is the saddest reason of all).
The very good reason is that you are building or buying a home and you absolutely LOVE and feel energized by these colors, and it has ZERO to do with a desperate need to follow any trend. Only then is it a great investment of time and money.

Lisa, I'm thinking of Fine Paints of Europe 'Bottle Green' (I know, classic right?) for my sunny, north facing library, which is connected to my living room (painted in an antique white) by a pair of French doors.
Both rooms have excellent light during daylight hours....what say you?
Is this too sharp a contrast as the two colors are seen against each other?

I’m embarking on a whole house repaint with either BM White Dove or Behr Blank Canvas. But I’m stuck trying to determine if ceiling should be the same or different white. Leaning toward same. And yes I will be engaging in rule of three best practice 😎

Years ago Pantone introduced their "Color of the Year", a mucky brownish red, and of course it was featured on all the design shows. It was so ghastly that only a couple of companies made products in that color (a few toss cushions, a vase, a fabric throw) and within 5 weeks of its launch it was never seen or mentioned again. Even the experts can screw up, but at least it's not "the ugliest color in the world" (according to voters) - Pantone 448 C - otherwise known a "Poo brown". LOL
That colour became huge.

Heh. No they barely affect anything which is why it's been beige, white or grey for primary color choices. MAYBE an accent wall, but everything else revolves around the shades of neutrals everyone picks as well as wood trim.
Wood & metal colors have been crazy - all over the place over the last 20 years however.
Amazing trend colours...wondering would you put Blue Nova and Topaz in the same room?...you mentioned they were not opposites on the wheel..

Over the summer, i tested 5 different paint colors for the foundation of my house. The neighbors thought i was crazy until i found the perfect color from Benjamin moore. It goes with my house perfectly!

All the design stores in NZ are neutrals and Grey's and it's so uninspiring - I just want some colour! It's like you can't even buy a cushion that isn't neutral

How does she not know White Dove OC17 has been probably THE most popular “white” for a few years. It’s not new. I painted my house White Dove in 2020…
White dove is not new I have used it frequently for the many years, I was showing how cleverly Benjamin Moore integrates their new colors in with their existing pallet so that you can use his new colors in ways that work in your home

I don’t pay attention to any of these color trends for walls. I keep it neutral with warm accents and maybe a hint of color in a blanket or accessories.

Not into trends. Not into colors either for paint inside the home. I stick with browns, tans, whites, and greys. You can use art, rugs, and pillows and blankets for color. For the outside of the house I do break the rule and use colors. But I am not sleeping and eating with it.

I JUST, as in 2 days ago just, changed my living room over to tea stained linen beige, raw cotton cream, busty blue, inky navy, black and silver. I’d say this is close to trend maybe, kinda sorta, I hope….because I can’t change it now for another 2 years which is about my limit on how long I can stand the same décor before something in me convulses and I have to move EVERYTHING and change the rugs, drapes, pillows, half the furniture, all the Nick-backs, pictures, the whole 9 yards. I’m a Gemini, what can I say - this is normal to us!!! LOL

Eek, that is one grayed out palette! Perfect to push that depressive in your life off the cliff! Lol. (Sorry, nothing personal against you or your channel, which I do enjoy. I just would not personally want any of these colors in my home - unless maybe I lived in the desert and was tired of the sunshine!)
Farrow & Ball is the best!!!! They have less binding agents, less water and more pigment…..😉

Benjamin’s Moore is only good for fabric designers. Interiors are more true. With little Greene and Farrow & Ball. Much prettier colours.

Everything looks like it is pointing to grays coming back in a couple of years. Pewter, violet, blue……gray??? Bye, bye beige/brown in 2026 or 2027…my prediction 😊
No, no, no! Blue has NEVER appealed to me! Benjamin Moore has failed us along with the other paint manufacturers. I love a good neutral and any color I use is made up with accents (artwork, throws, rugs, cushions, etc). I don’t want my home divided/broken up with a color of the year. Good home decor isn’t a fad where the color changes every year.
Chances are you already know what I'm going to say. 😬 The tones of all these colours are lovely, but the presentation is pretty sleepy. Raspberry Blush had such personality, but these are all so powdery and desaturated. So I'd say these rank in the “fine” category.
