    Check out our upcoming treks for 2024: indiahikes.com/upcoming-treks
    In this first episode of the Trek With Swathi Talk Show, we cover the realities of trekking to Auden's Col. Swathi Chatrapathy interviews Arun Joshi, who completed the Auden's Col trek in May 2017.
    He gives us a reality check on the vagaries of the Auden's Col trek, none of which are to be taken lightly.
    About Auden's Col:
    Auden’s Col is a high mountain pass at an altitude of 18,010 ft above sea level. It is on the ridge connecting the peaks of Gangotri III (21,590 ft) and Jogin I (21,210 ft). The pass is named after John Bicknell Auden of the Geological Survey of India, who first discovered it in 1935 and crossed it in 1939.
    Auden’s Col trek is one of the most challenging non-technical treks in Garhwal, and perhaps in all of Indian Himalayas. There are numerous crevasses, precarious ridges and boulder sections along the long arduous trail.
    But the trek is rewarding, with awe-inspiring views of the Gangotri group of peaks, the Jogin group, Bhagirathi group, Rudragaira, and Kedar Dome.
    If you are an experienced trekker looking for a challenging trek with some incredible mountain views, then this is the trek for you.
    If you have been to Auden's Col, drop in a comment with your experience. It will help other trekkers looking to go on the trek.

    In the year 2004 I crossed it from Khatling end with one of my friend and 2 porter and documented it in the 'Indian Mountaineer'. We had no GPS, just a hand drawn map taken from a very large scale topo sheet. Targetting only the Rabit's ear mentioned by JB Auden, we succeed after 2 failure in 2001 and 2002. Since then I can see lot of trekkers and Agencies are making this expedition. It was dangerously beautiful. But very fragile in nature. My earnest request to all trekkers and Agencies to take care of the nature over there, the tranquility over there.

    Let me point out something. Kalindi Khal, Panpatia Col and Auden's Col are the difficult treks in India. These three are difficult in their own ways. Auden's Col has a very very difficult terrain and a challenging trek to do. Very very less people has done this trek. Strong physical strength is required to do. A very difficult trek it is! Panpatia is difficult due to its fully snow covered vast field, the panpatia icefield, which makes it bery difficult to do.
    But , Kalindi Khal Trek actually holds the title of hardest trek, because it requires your mental stability more than your physical strength. The route from Vasuki and going iver the Chaturangi glacier is on a Very bery narrow ridge. Plus you have vast snow fields to cover and more glaciers to cover, gangotri, shuralaya, chaturangi, sweta, and kalindi galciers which adds the difficulty level. Plus it is one of the highest treakkeble pass, at 19,720 feet. Plus it had very bery difficult morrains , almost no particular road to cover. This trek combines all this aspects.

    Auden's col is once in a lifetime trek and yes it holds the glamour of an achievement. And not everyone have the guts in their bums to do it once, forget doing it twice, and why should one trekker should do it twice anyway. It's the reputation of Auden's col. If you are an adventure freak and want to challenge yourself and feel alive experiencing what nature has to offer, go do it. If you're a believer of the creator and the fact that it helps only the brave miraculously, that the pain and fear will fade away into pride and satisfaction once you completed this trek, then go do it. But if you're not brave enough to risk yourself, if you have any doubt about the power and miracles of the creator and if you're afraid of dying then better stay indoors and stop giving this fucking reality and talk something else that better suits you.

    Thanks for starting off the shows again. Video has good contents. But it almost looked like in summary "DO NOT DO THIS". Please reduce this kind of negativity in the contents like this (similar to documents on Pin-Parvati pass). I agree lots of new trekkers follow india hikes, please make sure you mention for WHOM it is.
    So, I would request you to not to guide people to stop going on these treks.

    I agree with him...kalindi khal might be at a higher altitude but auden's col is toughest...the same I felt when I was doing khardung la pass and marsimek la...they both were easy in front of Chang la pass....toughness is based on the terrains and oxygen level...not on the basis of altitude

    • @maheshg.n.9688
      @maheshg.n.9688 Před 4 lety

      Aren't Khardung la and Marsimek la are motor-able passes ? If you trekked there, I would to know the trekking route you took. If not, with all due respect stop talking about them. Because, auden's col or Khalindi are 1000 times tougher than your motor-able passes.
