Jack!! Iâm a student and one of my professors has a nonprofit bookstore in Hoboken, NJ. Itâs called Symposia Community Book Store. My professor and his wife sell used books and use the store as a community center. Years ago, my professor would give puppet shows to children there. Just an idea for a fun little trek outside of NYC :)
ah ik this is for jack but I'm from jersey and have been looking for independent bookstores so thanks for sharing this! will definitely check it out :)
Oh this would be so great!! They are always such special people! They also know so many books because they choose their collection themselves. He should read their all time favourite and a recent one!
This reminds me of a wedding I went to recently. I was a bridesmaid and told to be at the venue and ready by 1pm. I was and I was the only one ready. I got bored and went across the street in my bridesmaid dress to a small indie bookstore. May have been the highlight of the trip. đ
at the wedding of my mom's godchild i actually buried myself in the hotel lounge with some trashy followup to gone with the wind i found in the hotel's library đ
also if you like Japanese Lit, I highly recommend visiting Books Kinokuniya in Bryant Park. Its a haven of Asian literature, as well as an upper floor dedicated entirely to Manga!
as a queer girl living in a small town in the south, living in nyc and going to independent bookstores with chloe moriondo playing in the background is my literal dream. thanks for letting me live vicariously through you đ
it's 1am, i've just completed a 2000 word essay that's due tomorrow that i started writing less than 12 house ago, Jack always knows the best time to post :)
Every time you record a book haul you should add a countdown to 1k book to keep us updated as to how many books you have left before you can claim you have a library at home đđđ
Left Bank Books in Greenwich Village is an interesting book store if you havenât already been. Astoria Bookshop in Astoria (Queens) is also a lovely independent shop within walking distance from the Museum of the Moving Image, which you might also enjoy. Enjoy your time in NY!
Super curious: How will you take all the books you've bought in NY back to the UK? Or are you staying there indefinitely? I'm over here guessing the amount of suitcases
I actually saw The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida in a bookstore not too long ago and thought it sounded (and looked) really interesting, but then I was like, dear me, I am already currently reading more than five books simultaneously, I can wait for Christmas for more.
You're making me very nostalgic. I just found my copy of Beezus and Ramona from the NYC Society Library that my Mom got me at a library sale. We would hang out there all the time after school upstairs. It was so cozy! I miss it.
That Daniil Kharms "Today I Wrote Nothing" book is really good, I majored in Russian Literature in my undergrad, and we read it. Very funny and interesting
You, heading out, on the elevator with low battery had me STRESSED. Iâm from jersey and go into the city somewhat often and my anxiety could Never. I think youâre a⊠New Yorker?? đ
I only recently just got into ur videos and it's perfect because there's so many to catch up on so in the mean time you're just uploading more. It's like an endless supply of book videos lol
I went to a ton of indie bookstores when I was visiting New York this fall. Three Lives and Co has the most impeccable vibe and the booksellers are super kind and knowledgable
I hope you enjoy your time here in NYC, Jack!! Check out the gorgeous Argosy Book Store in Midtown (oldest indie bookstore in the city), the amazing Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, and if you haven't yet experienced Sleep No More in Chelsea, you absolutely owe it to yourself to go, one of the most insane and wonderful nights of exploratory art you'll ever have.
Agreed on the Monster trail mix being top tier! I donât get trail mix often because Iâve always disliked raisins but I used to get that one and feed my roommates the leftover raisins
i hope to visiting nyc soon for either school or fun, and your videos are adding to the list of places i want to go to!! thank you for another amazing video jack!!
i love exploring indie bookstores. they are so so so cute! there's a documentary that i think you should watch. it's called The Booksellers. it's about booksellers around new york and how they started, the history or bookselling, and rare collections. i think you would love it especially since you live in new york!
Thanks for linking that NYC book site! Now I know there is a black woman-owned bookstore/winebar in my borough, (the Bronx)! Also, I think those bookstores will be happy to let you film and promote them if you let them know your audience size, so you don't have to hide!
It's my dream to live in new york when im older so im deffo saving this for that day. ALSO TAYLOR SWIFTTTTT. Also love the space girl during the lil clips its so vibey
if you went to mcnally jackson you were also close to sweet pickle books! super cute used bookstore that also sells pickles :') lower east side has a bunch of great bookstores! would also recommend book club and bluestocking cooperative! :)
Jack hi! The book â The seven moons of Maali Almeda â just started reading it. And can I say WOW! The diction and imagery truly put me into the world of the book. The philosophical theme of questioning reality, religion, oneâs place in this chaos we call our lives, the repetition of the garbage and the blood stained people. It is beautiful. Attention to detail is above par. I am only on the First Moon (chapter 1), but something nevertheless had to be said. Many thanks for the book recommendation, I am loving it. Not suppressing it has one awards.
These are functional but there are so many unique bookstores with a little more character. Sweet Pickle Books also sells very good pickles & often has jazz outside or artists inside. The Mysterious Bookshop is one of many specialty stores with a great community of readers. Molasses Books has a great art collection but also a range of genres where the record player sets the mood and they have a bar to take you from coffee to beer. Then there are all the rares & antiquesâŠthis could be a series really.
Love seeing the new bookstores in New York I want to visit! You should definitely check out Alabaster Books - it's second-hand mostly and shouldn't be too far away from you as it's right beside Union Square
Check out Troubled Sleep books in BK! Itâs one of my favourite second hand shops and opened up this past August. They also sell vinyl records which is pretty cool. The area is gorgeous and great for wandering around/taking photos. â€
I just bought The Seven Moons of Mail Almeida this past weekend! Gotta finish Earthlings first then Iâll join you Jack (had to take a day off from reading Earthlings yesterday cause itâs just a lot to handle).
superđ just wish the same finds here in Copenhagen - also bought the 7 moons of Maali A. when i was in Bordeaux(the only English bookshop there) - excited to read it after I finish A Little Lifeđą hope for more bookstore hopping!
you should look at the book club its very small but they have wine and you can work from there its in lower east side. Plus they have writing events and author visits.
Jack, you do not have to worry about your subtle and surreptitious Broll shots. You wanna hear what I did at Three Lives? I walked in with my own canon G7x and asked if I could film, to which they said no. I then proceeded to go outside, take out my TRIPOD, and film myself walking in and out of three lives in various angles. I had never been so mortified at myself in my life, but it was also a very good vlog segment. So carry on Jack, there are worse people out there lol (ie me)

I SAW THAT TOO I WAS LIKE WHAT
this is chaotic evil and shouldn't be allowed lolll
Maybe he has a powerbank
video idea: reading independent bookstore owners' favorite books
Oh this would be so great!! They are always such special people! They also know so many books because they choose their collection themselves. He should read their all time favourite and a recent one!

I love how Jack acknowledges Translating Authors and Independent Bookstores. I havenât been to an Independent Bookstore in ages.
Why do schoolwork when Jack has posted riddle me that?
as a queer girl living in a small town in the south, living in nyc and going to independent bookstores with chloe moriondo playing in the background is my literal dream. thanks for letting me live vicariously through you đ

Jack Im loving these "little" videos as you call them
You, heading out, on the elevator with low battery had me STRESSED. Iâm from jersey and go into the city somewhat often and my anxiety could Never. I think youâre a⊠New Yorker?? đ
My instant thought was that thereâd be no way Iâd get around NYC without my phone lol a battery that low would definitely delay my outing lol
the vibes in this video are immaculate!!
JACK CHARGE YOUR PHONE??? youre leaving the house with your phone at like 15% makes me nervous
breakfast is always great when i can watch somebody browse through bookstores and vibe to âšspace girlâš

Probably missed you by days but not from New York but wandered into the bookshop with big red doors this last Friday (didn't catch the name but grabbed my attention). Would have loved to run into you there đ€Żđ€©
superđ just wish the same finds here in Copenhagen - also bought the 7 moons of Maali A. when i was in Bordeaux(the only English bookshop there) - excited to read it after I finish A Little Lifeđą
hope for more bookstore hopping!
would be interesting if jack did a video at the end of the year on how much money he has spent on books this year because it has to be a lot
you should look at the book club its very small but they have wine and you can work from there its in lower east side. Plus they have writing events and author visits.

The real main character energy is Jack heading out with low battery phone.
That's what I call fearless.
