    Also, while he hasn't ever competed in the World circuit he has won many races around the world. He has won Athen's to Atlanta many years he has won the New York race a handful of times and has always managed to be in the top ten in the Northshore Inline Marathon and he is in his 40's. Rather than bash him maybe if you are a skater try and learn something from him. He is one of the best inline teachers out there and will invigorate your spirit on skating!

    When I gave my first presentation in kindergarten they told me to slow down when I speak. I don't think people told Eddy Matzger to slow down....

    Many thanks for the assistance, I have been practicing a lot and thus far can get to the outer edge on the forward foot, and gently turn in the correct direction while going into toe roll on the back foot. I suppose this is a "mini" carve.

    Really nice video! Very useful indeed, i'll try to improve my technique with those circles!

    Awesome! Now I finally get the theory of the mechanics... doing it is gonna be different I'm sure! Thanks for this vid!

    i have used Eddie tech tips with happy success. 5 wheel skates are fun skates to train on. low to ground. i also roll super fast on bont boots and 4 x110 mm wheels

    Have you ever heard of guys by the name of Chad Hedrick, or Joey Mantia. Look those guys up and you will see exactly what Eddy is teaching. Chad had the 5 wheel setup as Eddy and no doubt is harder to do the double push, but Chad actually perfected this technique. With Joey he came along with the generation where 4 wheels are the norm with 110 mm wheels, and still does this double push technique and with more power. You work less and can gain so much speed doing this.

    I imagine a sort of mild zig zag in front of me to follow. My upper body doesn't zig zag hardly, but it helps my legs do the motion. I always make sure my foot lands at an angle to do the 'under push'

  • @mechmove
    @mechmove Před 11 lety

    so far, I've added the toe roll on either foot, next step getting the carving motion going, pretty hard without falling

  • @axx43xxx
    @axx43xxx Před 11 lety

    Also try the scissors drills that are in Barry Publow's book _Speed on Skates_. It's a different way of getting at double push without so much emphasis on a single-leg carve.

    I've been working on this with abysmal results. Having a very hard time carving my skates. During the carve, is the pressure on the front wheels reduced and then "drag" the skate around, or is the carve simply getting over on the edge of the wheels?

  • @mechmove
    @mechmove Před 11 lety

    is that where your forward foot in the scissor position transitions between inside and outside edges?

  • @htalpo
    @htalpo Před 14 lety

    @Radughiudem Obviously you have never skated or heard of Eddy then because he is one of the most renowned speed skaters in the world and no doubt would skate circles around you.
    Don't criticize when you don't know what you are talking about.

  • @danburger606
    @danburger606 Před 9 lety +4

    I am always amazed at the comments that are not on the positive side. Some of those comments are from just plain stupidity, while others deserve some sort of response. For those questioning his skating ability, teaching ability, or credentials in skate racing have probably never skated with or raced against Eddy.
    I was behind the camera to tape the segment with all the chalk in the parking lot, a sort of two-minute drill for the double-push. What he is teaching is the drills (with exaggerations) to build your carving and pushing power.
    I recently paced Eddy on a moped in Thailand for over 100km. the first 80km, before taking a small break was at speeds between 40-55kmph. I can tell you that if Eddy is breathing hard, he must be movin'!
    Also, just fyi, Many of those shots of him are going uphill...

    • @stephhanglan3679
      @stephhanglan3679 Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah I noticed the uphill takes - great for displaying technique for teaching, but takes a hell of a lot of power and core balance!

      Firstly, I’d like to personally thank you & Eddy for making the vid...these vid are priceless for those of us trying to learn the DP; and Secondly, forget the fricken haters - unfortunately that’s the “web” for ya! And worst still, “mankind” in general....isn’t it odd that it’s called “mankind” when its mostly manUNkind?!

    Always interesting how folks in the speed skating community, much like the skateboarding world, tend to love to badmouth each other. Like a bunch of two-year-olds. If you guys think you are so much better, why don't YOU post a video of your perfection? Tell us how many races YOU'VE won? How many people YOU'VE taught? What YOU'VE done to promote the sport.
    Snobby elitists always kill a sport and turn people off big time.
    The guy is trying to coach people who are learning how to skate. You don't teach someone how to drive in a top-fuel dragster. You teach at THEIR level.

  • @stevepestano8179
    @stevepestano8179 Před 12 lety

    This guy is no pro skater he has won bogus races with beginners, he is no body in the real competitive world of In-line races, any woman in Colombia or Italy can defeat him easily to say the least.

  • @RaduFitness
    @RaduFitness Před 14 lety

    dude, you need improvments in your own tecnique before you try to teach it. The exercices are good, but when it comes to the final double push, you are doing it wrong.
