Chad was COOKING when breaking down the Rooney rule. If it has to be INCENTIVIZED that you interview minority head coaching candidates, that tells you all you need to know about how the ones running the show feel about it. I wish they let Fred speak more because he rarely talks, so when he has something to say it's always a gem, but of course Pac-Man kept cutting him and everyone else off.

Gruden accepted the role of fall guy for them. He took one for the whole NFL. I guarantee he wasn't the only person in the NFL feeling that way but they couldn't let one of the heads take the fall. He stepped down but he's still going to get a payoff with that.

I was saying this from jump. Raiders wanted Gruden gone because they lamented the contract they gave him. He gave away foundational players that have been balling out for other teams.
@@mattycampy I think they will do fine. Most head coaches are over rated the Coordinators usually have a bigger impact on game performance. It the management of players, coordinators that is key. They don’t win the Super Bowl this year just because he is the head coach. And he was trying to replace Derick Carr. Derick isn’t an MVP but he can play. I wouldn’t trust Gruden personnel moves the remainder of his tenure at the Raiders. I think their evaluation was the same so they offered him up to the league as a fall guy. Firing a guy everyone already knows is on their way out has no impact.

It's about the power, the prestige, and the ability to control literally everything affiliated with the organization..including the coaches. One of the reasons that they have the rule that no one can even purchase an NFL team without the approval of all 32 team owners, is to maintain status quo. They don't draft from hbcus intentionally. And, they use traps like the one Gruden is in as a control mechanism. I would be willing to be the entire farm that Gruden got on the wrong side of someone. Hence the reason he's out. In the meantime, the same has happened to other players and coaches. For example, even Mike Vick, if he's honest, has to know that they set him up to go to prison over the dog fighting situation. Specifically, they gave him a mega contract hoping he would bring in the championship for ATL and, more importantly, elevate (i.e. leave the hood alone) and properly represent the franchise. When it didn't happen and he seemed to still be committed to living his hood life full throttle, he mysteriously got busted. Note: I'm all for not killing animals so I'm not justifying what he did. However, if you noticed, IMMEDIATELY after it happened the NFL required him to give back his guaranteed money....all of it. The same happened with Plexico Burress who shot HIMSELF BY ACCIDENT in a club. He went to jail and the NFL put their hand out immediately. If you're not performing to their satisfaction or you can't elevate, they find a way to get their money back. Other players have literally killed people (i.e. Ray Lewis and the Cleveland killers) but because he was performing and bringing money and the right energy into the stadium (Mike was bringing in the thugs), it was overlooked. I say all of this to say that some of this is about racism but most of it is about money and image. My personal belief is that Gruden's situation is being used as a distraction for something else that's going on in the league. His sudden email conundrum just seems strange and disjointed as some of it happened years ago, well before every organization on the planet got woke. Also, why haven't they released the transcripts of the emails? Who released the story itself? Who was Gruden actually conversing with? What did that person say in response? What prompted the NFL to take a look at these emails? As Chad mentioned, there are 6500 other emails, who else is culpable? My husband and I often debate the concept of racism. We agree that it's layered and the closer you are to what some consider the "bottom", the more harsh it is and feels. In that sense, racism and economics go hand in hand. People with money and resources often seem shocked when one of their white colleagues is outed for being a bigot but the reality is that they all have some of it in them. In the NFL, there doesn't seem to be a lot of give when it comes to Black players. They're expected to be humble, grateful, and cocky at the same time, as if on cue. On the other hand, white players are portrayed as hard workers, men of integrity, and blue collar on the field. You rarely hear about them outside of their uniforms which warrants them an entirely different lifestyle and work experience. Regardless, a Black man in America is a Black man in America. It doesn't matter if you're the player, coach, go fetch guy on the sidelines, etc... You're NOT the owner so at the end of the day you're either a Black who makes the owner proud and comfortable or one who does the opposite. Cam Newton is at home watching football on Sundays because he didn't get with their image, marketing, and conservative Black man program. Aaron Rodgers let his hair grow out and people are even side eyeing him for that! Anyway, I'm off topic. The bottomline is that the NFL is working overtime to diversify the league with internationals so that's how they'll solve their diversity problem. The NBA did it years ago and started drafting folks from everywhere. I'd love to hear Coach Gruden's detailed perspective....get him on the show.

You’re talking about 2 sports that builds their respective leagues with players that have specific qualities…like strength, speed, football IQ, recall memory, in-game decision making, work ethic and character. Now, if you want to discuss a time when there was no diversity, we can. Have you have heard of the “Gentleman’s Agreement? Ok, you haven’t….let’s go….it’s when the NFL owners agreed to prevent signing black players onto their teams. For 12 years the league held up to this agreement in spite of the outcry. It wasn’t until 1946 that the NFL allowed for the integration of black players. Prior to this, only 9 players were allowed in the league in 1902 - 1906. In 1927 - 1933, only 5 were in the league. When the league would dissolve teams, Black players were the first to be removed. In 1932, the owner of the Washington Redskins refused to have black athletes on his team. In 1933, the last year of integration, the NFL had two black players. In 1934, there were no black players in the league. I leave it right here, but you should really research the topic before thinking some reverse racism is going on.
