Your Medical Specialty Based on The Big Five Personality Traits

  • What doctor specialty should you pursue based on your Big Five Personality type? We break down which personality traits best align with which medical specialties.
While personality tests like Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram are popular amongst the masses, The Big Five is the most widely accepted personality test among scientists. This is because The Big Five organizes people by traits on a spectrum of five dimensions:
    - Openness to Experience
    - Conscientiousness
    - Extraversion
    - Agreeableness
    - Neuroticism
Of course, you shouldn’t base your career path on your Big Five results alone. There are many factors that go into choosing the medical specialty you want to pursue for the rest of your life. However, our stress tolerance, communication preferences, ideals, and overall nature make some specialties a better fit than others.

Pursuing general surgery within the military and I was 3/5 for moderate conscientiousness, high extroversion, and low neuroticism. Definitely agree on the latter. You can’t get your feelings hurt too easily belonging to surgery or the military.

Last time I took a test on this, I scored highest to lowest: aggreableness, extroversion, openness, conscientiousness, and lastly neurotic. I perform well on tests because I tend not to fear them, but I would still say I have a healthy enough fear of failure to stay motived and achieve excellence, it just isn't always the main motivator. Glad to see oncology matches with those highest in aggreableness

I knew cardiology would fit me. I fear failure to such an extent I am always considering backup plans, and ifs, and trying to find solutions to the problems, and whenever I do get stressed out I've been learning how to calm myself down and look at other options/alternatives
I'm big on planning and having alternatives/backup plans in mind to be prepared to fight for the worst :>

Scored high in eveything but Extraversion. I did a comparison to all the specialty named on the video and I got plastic surgery as the most picked specialty.
I don't like plastic surgery because it's doesn't align with my values.
I am in college for nursing right now but still not sure what i want to specialize in. I feel like i juggle between a relaxing environment and than fast and upbeat. Everything looks very interesting that I'm not sure what I would like unless I experience the field.
This doesn't mean i am going to pick this specialty because of the comparison I did. This was just for fun.
    Thanks for the video.
