  • The Sony S10MK2 AM FM portable radio is the perfect handheld radio when found at a low price. I actually prefer this one over the P26.

    The cabinet style is nice, and I like the attention to the small details, such as the notched area for the antenna and shoulders to protect the tuning and volume knobs.
    Features I like about this radio:
    Reception on both bands is very good.
    Speaker audio quality is quite pleasing to listen to for long periods.
    Compact.
    Build quality is solid.
    Tuning indicator LED.
    Accurate Dial.
    Overall, I found a great little handheld here. Thank you Peter Atkinson for the donation. I will be using this radio as my daily driver for the time being. If found for under $20, do yourself a favor and buy one. You will like it.

    I bought one of these in 2008 for $9.99 and lost track of it over the last few years. I knew I had it around somewhere and finally found it the other day. Put some batteries in it and it sounds and works great. Really nice little radio.

    I used mine at the beach quite a few times and then left it in my outdoor shed for about 11 years in 100+ degree summers, with the batteries still in it... found it a little while back, cleaned it up and it works perfect. They don't make 'em like they used to!

    Great video! I've had and used one of these for about 10 years. Some rave over these, but mine produced less than stellar performance on AM nighttime DX, and an alignment might be in order. My radio's circuit board has component locations, but is lacking the marked components, which leads me to believe there might actually be 2 different radios from the internal viewpoint. My S10MK2 has better daytime AM than most, which I think might be due to the large ferrite bar antenna. Good video on an available radio. thumbs up!

    I’ve got one ☝️ of these, which is the Sony S10MK2, like 👍 you’re saying. I also have the exact same model, in black, but I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ it’s model number. I daily drive 👩‍⚕️ most of my radios 📻. They turn out to be real workhorses, and the batteries 🔋 go about a week before they need replacing. Your friend, Jeff.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před rokem +1

      I think they made an S10 in black. I have one in black, and it doesn't have the MK2 after it. The radio is slightly different though.

    I love this radio (I’m a Sony fanboy). I bought it new in 2014 for around $12. It is still my daily driver most of the time for AM. It gets good run time on a set of AA batteries on AM, great AM reception, and is easy to carry around the house and garage. I personally don’t see any difference between this radio and the P26 (other than looks), they seem to perform the same. I have many Sony radios use them all but I always find myself using this one more for some reason.

    • @totallyfrozen
      @totallyfrozen Před rokem +2

      I agree. I replaced this with a P26. The P26 has a more “modern” Sony look, but the performance seems the same. The P27 is the digital iteration. I’d rather have the P26 (analog).

    • @jyoung5594
      @jyoung5594 Před rokem +1

      @@totallyfrozen I bought the P27 recently, you are right the P26 performs better IMO. I like Sony but they have some work to do on DSP. I have other small DSP radios that perform better than the P27.

    I have one of these radios, and have had it for at least 10 years. I normally bring it along on road trips. It gets good reception, even in hotel rooms. AM reception is great. I've been able to pick up KGO San Francisco up in Seattle. It's very handy. I paid 11.00 for the radio new.

  • @ArndroidInc

    I have one of these radios that has been used a lot. I must say mine doesn't look half as good as the one on the video but it's been a solid performer for about ten years. Many Boy Scout camp outs and family events as a pleasent savior from the relatives. I don't think the sound quality on FM is all that good but this is a basic information radio. Two Aldi alkaline AA's last a long time, like maybe 100 hours. I like mine because it's been a solid performer and durable.

    I've noticed that the Japanese radios held on to the one ear only system longer. Also, the earphone is waaaaay too sensitive. It will blow your ears off if you aren't careful. I do NOT use it with headphones. And you think $30-35 is too much, look in 2022. They're going for a lot more than that, or at least are listed for more. Just looked and the cheapest used on is about $18 shipped (looked rough). A new in box one will set you back $113 to $180! eBay economics at its worst.

    Nice video(s) - I just subscribed - My 16 YO son asked for a-small pocket radio for Christmas. We live on a horse farm and he does a lot of work around the property. I just ordered the CC Pocket radio for him - after seeing your review. I saw this radio on another channel (after I made the purchase of the CC Pocket). My son likes radios - actually has his HAM licensee but just wants (what I still call) a transistor radio. He listens to a couple of local FM channels. He actually has an iPod but he prefers radio stations. He has an old 70's model JCP Radio in his room, so sound quality is obviously not his top priority (LOL). Do you think this radio is better than the CC Pocket or should I stay with the CC Pocket? BTW the radio is fetching 24 for old with scratches to $50-60 'like new to $115 - up for 'new in package"). Thanks.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 5 lety +1

      The CCPocket is a great choice over this radio. Also the Sangean DT-200X or the DT-400W czcams.com/video/K6iZvth7hKE/video.html are great pocket radios if he plans to use headphones. They are most pocket friendly because of their smooth, curved cabinets. Here is a comparison between the CCPocket and the DT400W czcams.com/video/BqMO7HlpUoM/video.html. I like the CCPocket but find myself using the Sangeans when I'm on the go. Even my DT-210 gets tons of use when I'm out and about czcams.com/video/fo3p5R2wh8Q/video.html .

    Before I bought the ICF P26 I used to have this radio but I accidently left it behind at a Train Station in Long Island
    This radio did get the job done for me when I first bought it back in 2014 but their was some problems I had with it
    The Volume kept acting up one minute it was loud the next it was soft the antenna was getting lose and the battery cover was missing a piece plus I did not like the headphone jack only giving me one piece playing sound
    But the AM Antenna is great on this model so I can understand why some DXers want to sell an outrageous price for this on Ebay
