CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bourne (Matt Damon) wins a well-matched struggle with an assassin, but Marie's (Franka Potente) hysteria frees the man.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The best-selling suspense novel by late author Robert Ludlum comes to the screen for a second time, following a 1988 made-for-TV movie. Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne, a barely alive amnesiac with a pair of bullet wounds in his back, pulled from the Mediterranean by Italian fishermen. Bourne's only clue to his own identity is a bank account number etched on a capsule implanted in his body. He quickly finds the Zurich bank where money, a gun, and a few identification documents await, but after he's pursued by security goons at the American consulate, Bourne realizes he can trust no one and offers a German gypsy named Marie (Franka Potente) ten thousand dollars for a ride to Paris. Encountering more professional killers bent on his destruction, Bourne discovers that he possesses a surprising degree of skill in combat, martial arts, and linguistics -- handy talents that clearly indicate his past includes work as a spy and assassin, but for whom? With Marie's reluctant help, Bourne edges closer to the truth, something CIA officials want concealed at all costs. The Bourne Identity co-stars Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles.

@@bbiju4585Weirdo chuds and their ongoing fight against grammar in the culture war.
The best part of this scene is the expression on Damon's face throughout the fight scene, as though Bourne is a disbelieving spectator who is just grasping the extent of his own reactive fighting skills. He does not emotionally react at all to the ongoing threat - but DOES get pissed at her for interfering as if she interrupted a simple argument at a family dinner. Very good acting.
Yes, I noticed when he's backing up from the guy at some parts, he looks a little derpy, like he doesn't know consciously what he's doing, that this is still al new shit to him, but somehow his body does remember

PS : this was my original idea ..nothing to do with Superman!
The movie "Upgrade" does a great job at this dynamic as well. The actor does a sublime job of a guy who can't believe what his body is doing
He was probably trained to control his emotions to better fight or to solve a problem

This scene was so stark and brutal compared to other super-spy movies from before. It really changed the way I looked at the genre... and fight choreography in general.
Check out the fight scene on the train in From Russia with Love
@@jimbro601 That's a great scene.
Check out the fight scene in Three Days of the Condor, that's where a lot of the physicality of these spy movie scenes comes from.
Because it is not a fighting style with lots good looking form but rather a functional objective and straight to the point fighting style.
No, it is not a main stream fighting style but a long forgotten style that was tried to be buried by the invaders of that country.
And no it is not Brazilian Jujitsu that sounds to have a similar history.
This fighting style is thought to even be more pure or predate Karate.
It is the same style that is being utilised in many movies now including the fight between Cap and the the Winter soldier.
Sad that through the forced supression of this fighting style in the original country, it has found some survival out of the country.
The fighting style is from Filipino Kali/Panantukan. Jeff Imada helped choreograph this scene.
One of the greatest things about the first film is the use of "quiet moments" to increase the level of fear, uncertainty and paranoia. The violence can come at any time. Brilliant filmmaking!
Love the quiet before the intense scene. Also her reaction at the end when she sees her pic
What's interesting is the video game "Spec ops: the line" uses the same technique to scare the players. You find yourself wandering through a war torn city but it's very quiet. Suddenly, a shot rings out in the distance and it always takes you by surprise. Makes it one of the most creepy games I've ever played.

The "im not getting in there, but wish you luck" look?
Especially when he does that martial arts leap to his feet.
She's thinking. Wait wtf, who is this person?
Got that right? They got absolutely everything right.
Oh really? During the entire fight she does no attempt to help Bourne, e.g. by distracting the assasin, but she immedately wants the fallen man to answer where he did get her photos from. Not very believable if you ask me. It's more of the old way as portraying females as helpless viewers as the men fight.

This is the 2nd best fight from the entire Bourne franchise, where the viewer can see his full potential for the 1st time. Before he had been already beating up some policemen & security guards, but he mostly caught them by surprise. Now it's against a trained assassin, and he's a match even for this one. I was in cinema, my jaw dropped & i couldn't believe my eyes. Such a cool scene, totally unexpected.
The best fight I think is Bourne vs. Desh. Desh being younger, larger & stronger, and Bourne could still overpower him. There you could really see Bourne's quality & experience.

+Gee Trieste Well, she does get shot in the opening of Supremacy.
What I love here is that despite being a trained assassin, Jason Bourne had every opportunity to disarm him when he managed to grab hold of his weapon but has had a hard time doing so, no amount of twisting and hitting would make the guy let go off the knife so he had to resort to using a makeshift weapon to wound his hand to force him to let go.
It just shows really dangerous knife fights/attacks are and even if you do the right technique, there is no guarantee that they will let go of the knife (and that is even if you're still somehow alive and breathing)
Oh how I adore the pre-2010 impact sounds. Sounds like a cartoon. Lol
Franke Potente was fantastic in that role. She’s a great actress
Matt Damon created in Jason Bourne a great character. This is a man who is lost. He has no memory. He doesn't know much about himself but as the movie continued he soon began to learn things about himself. The Government need him dead before he works it all about and this their first attempt. When this guy crashes through the window Bourne leaps into action. He has a friend in Marie and he has to defend her against this guy. Its a great fight scene. Bourne was great because he used things around him in a fight. Any item he could get his hands on could be useful. He stabs this guy with a pen! Brilliant stuff! Great action movie!
Matt really did a great justice depicting Bourne's character.
I love the balance of dangerousness and vulnerability of his character as Jason Bourne and how Matt breathed life into him.
Robert Ludlum created Jason Bourne, not Matt Damon. Ludlum's book is terrific, and goes a lot deeper into Bourne's abilities, but the plot takes a different direction. There's still the memory loss and treadstone, but the rest is quite different.
@@ColinFox didnt shane black already create that character in the long kiss goodnight but with a female assassin.
What a scene; great acting; especially her.
+tropickman Agreed. She looked like she was seriously ill from seeing that picture of herself
This is why the pen is always mightier than the sword.
This was actually the best fight scene in the whole franchise honestly. Even with the cheesy foley art striking effects they still managed to not "super cut" every single punch or parry to where you still knew what was happening. After this first installment, they went way overboard with the quick edits to where nobody could tell who was doing what when fighting only that two people were swinging at eachother while impact sounds were happening 😆 sucks it went that way.
DAMN, Matt Damen really brought his A game in those films, i love every one of them.
Automatic weapons don't go clickety-clickety-click when they run out of ammo.
They stop firing when they run out of ammo.

In my opinion, the coolest fight of the Bourne series.
Something about the way they get thrown apart then look up and just walk toward each other to continue fighting is so badass.
This by far was the best fight scene compared to all other Bourne's I don't know why they changed this original director, Doug Liman to Paul Greengrass? Greengrass's fight scenes were blurry, shaking and dark but this one done by Liman is much more clear looking and you can see the punches. Just don't get it.
Because Paul Greengrass is a better director. Simple as that. Not sure which Bourne movies you have seen, but the fight scenes in Supremacy, and Ultimatum are amazing just like this one.
+Tristan Matheny I've seen all of them. Again this is the original first Bourne and it's the best fight scene that propelled this movie to a successful franchise. Greengrass is what? Maybe he's a good director but it's this 1st Bourn movie that made everything happened because it was so damn good! Especially the last scenes in which Bourn was flying off the floors with a dead body to protect his fall. Wow!
+Tristan Matheny Paul Greengrass could not film a good fight scene to save his life. I've seen his Bourne movies. The fight scenes, they might as well not have done them. Ever since I first saw this scene, I was obsessed with learning krav maga or eskrima, but then I realized that taking those classes is useless because I would never be able to use these techniques in real life situations without ever practicing them in real life scenario.
