Americans are not the kind of people to listen after the fact to a full, detailed explanation of truth and walk away satisfied that their first impression was based on a misunderstanding of facts. That's a wet dream of Jake Tapper's. The fact is that people usually watch these kinds of events like they do football games of WWE events. They think that a strongman is someone who spouts whatever he wants, who pushes others around, who has no inkling of what protocols and decency are. Going through halls of records and delivering intellectually validated material to Americans is like making a child eat spinach.

The President proposed the debate but the rules were decided upon later. And Jayar is absolutely right that the moderators avoided addressing the most obvious lies -- abortions in the eighth or ninth month of pregnancy? -- because they did not want to seem to be bullying Trump. But when Trump says what many would see as ridiculous, there is always a part of the audience that takes it as gospel UNLESS IT IS REFUTED ON THE SPOT. Some people heard President saying drinking bleach might kill Covid and did it.
Abortion during the 8th and 9th month do, in fact, happen. According to the Guttmacher Institute, which is a pro-abortion organization, some 1.1 million abortions were performed in 2023. 1% of them were third trimester abortions, meaning 7th-9th month. Doesn't sound like many...until you do the math and discover that means some 10,000 third trimester abortions.
If all the moderators did was ask questions and time the answers, I could have done that. They dont need to pay moderators millions of dollars to ask questions. A 5 year old can ask questions. If you're moderating, then moderate.

Honestly I felt good about the debate been on cnn. But what was surprising was how they handled it it seemed more like it was a debate on Fox. I never expected them to allow Donald Trump to consistently lie without not one fact check. This is the reason why I have unsubscribed from CNN
