Where have all our taxes gone? Over the last 14 years? This is the real question. No new hospitals, no new schools, no new prisons, no new GP surgeries or doctors, nurses policemen - nothing! Its funny isnt it that we have more rich people and the rich have been getting richer and the poor poorer!
Where has our tax money gone???
We have The lowest corporate tax rate (for the rich) yet the highest income tax rate (for the poor) in history. More billionaires and food banks than there’s ever been. The wealth is still in the country it’s just harder to see when it’s domiciled in the tax havens of the rich and not being used to fix the infrastructure that they benefit from the most. The wealthy benefit financially from the most. They benefit financially from a healthy population from an educated workforce. The tories took the shortest NHS wait times in history and made them into the longest (and that was before the pandemic.) They flatlined our economic growth for a decade. They raised our taxes they tripled our debt they sold off our infrastructure to their mates and threw parties while we couldn’t bury our loved ones, that their incompetence killed. A misguided ideology of hate and privilege.
Shame on everyone who repeatedly voted Tory and allowed this to happen to our public sector. Shame on them for the state of the NHS, the economy our boarders, our military, our schools and our prisons.

Germany pays EVERY kid child support. Every single one. Our family is not even from Germany, we only have one kid - and we received money without asking for it as soon as we moved to Germany.

People who've been caught doing or being addicted to drugs should not be in jail. The UK is backwards in that regard.

I found "covfefe" one of the most damning things about Trump, albeit seemingly small. We all make mistakes. Typos, grammatical errors and the like. Fat fingers, small screens, quick replies, right? But it was his inability to laugh it off and post what he really meant that showed me he was an arrogant, unrepentant and unapologetic man.
His call out of Cancer types post MRNA was excellent journalism at its highest level

And it’s cheaper to just give child support to everyone. You don’t have to have large bureaucracy that checks the applications and chases cheaters. On balance you save money, in addition to spare kids being singled out as poor.

I'm 60, my Dad is 89, due to listening to this on catch-up, I now, for the first time, have recognised the reason my blood pressure goes through the roof when I see my Dad is because he may be a narcissist, these people's experiences are so familiar! It had never occurred to me before, so thank you, at least I can think about it slightly differently!
Austerity - Where did all the money go? Tax cuts meant the better-off getting richer - while all areas of our Society closed down!

I do agree that it's not helpful in this context to say "don't have children if you can't afford them." Once a child exists they're entitled to a quality life regardless of their circumstances. But we also should address the conditions that lead to people having children they cannot support.
@@AmeeB-oo1lr ultimately it's poverty, but to some extent it's also education and social responsibility. I'm personally not in poverty, but I know I couldn't support a child right now, and I choose not to bring a new child into an untenable situation. There's never a perfect time to have a child, but there are certainly bad times to do so. Is there more we could do to fill the "voids" you mention? Whether or not we believe the government should entirely subsidize childrearing, we're nowhere close to that at the moment.

I have ( unfortunately) been in hospital half a dozen times recently and have asked the nurses about their ‘issues’.
Firstly…..none of them said they would go on strike….ever.
They agreed their salaries were satisfactory.
They ALL said their only issue was cover for absentee’s.

@@lestrem11as a nurse I think I’ve spoken to a lot more of them than you and can tell you that the issues are much more varied than what you’re suggesting. Nurses are struggling as much as anyone else.

Correct. I earn 60k so don't get anything yet on the bread line and kids get nothing but other family who have couple that work on 40k each get the benifit. Child benifit shouldn't be based on parent earning it shouldn't be means tested.
? Child benefit is for the child's benefit solely. When the parents don't earn enough, they get subsidized so that the child can have their needs met. If you earn enough, you should be able to care for your child by yourself.
The social net, everybody pays in and when in need you can take out, is a zero sum game. It's not a bonus you get for having a child.

Do you remember prison ships?
Run a hot-bed system in prisons, on an eight hour shift. You can get three times the prisoners into each gaol. Human rights? Well, the Tories were gagging to get rid of our membership of that movement if I recall correctly? One shift sleeping, one shift outside in the yard, the other inside the general area. Nightmare? Too right!
