I've been flying the F-5 for a while now, and feel I've progressed into the semi-competent stage. Here are 10 tips I wish I knew before taking this out in multiplayer for the first time. This list isn't exhaustive, and is not a masterclass. Instead it's aimed at people who have just gone through tutorials and want to jump into their first game, or those who have been in their first game and found their plane unceremoniously falling apart.

One slight caveat concerning the F-5E radar: It is totally useless as a search radar against fighter sized targets, but only 80-90% useless against bomber sized targets. I have occasionally gotten lucky finding a Tu-95 beyond visual range.
I hopped into ECW for the first time yesterday and walked out with two 9B kills on completely oblivious fishbeds. And also a few deaths to mirages and the ol' panic-pull-snap-your-wings-off move. She's a fun little plane. Very simple.
very good tips. The F-5 was my first DCS module and it is a great plane for beginners.
Is great for beginners but also probably one of the most fun jets regardless as its not fly by wire, looks bad ass, less performance hungry, sounds amazing
@7:18 -- I believe you can fire missiles in an "over-ride" mode by hitting the "DOGFIGHT MISSILE" (forward) button. I'm not sure if this over-rides the jettison switch, but I'm pretty sure it over-rides the selector switch -- an example would be if you went in for a rocket or bomb drop and immediately had to begin a dogfight, hit the dogfight missile switch and you should be able to rip off the Aim-9's
Very interesting. I'll have to give that a try. Cheers!
@@Dr_Jebus Also, this is more for when flying with a wingman/in a group.
Use TACAN in air-to-air mode (A-A T/R)
Leader sets up one channel, wingmen set channel 63 channels apart.
You ever get lost, just refer to your TACAN nav, it'll give you bearing and range.
When I fly with my buddy, whoever decides to take the lead usually sets 92, and wings all set 29. Just think 29-92. They're perfectly 63 channels apart. This should apply for any aircraft that has A/A tacan, not just the F-5 as well.
I'll be honest though, I don't know if its possible to see tacan between redfor/blufor. Might be an EMCON consideration... Though in the ECW server I don't think thats a problem.
@@Munky332 Wow, didn't know. Why does it have to be 63 apart? (I know little of tacan)
@@Magpie... Just the way the radio standard was made IIRC. 962 to 1213 (X) and 1025mhz to 1150mhz (Y), 126 channels each band spaced 1mhz apart, half of 126 == 63. basically works in "stereo", you dial in one freq, and that's the channel your radio is transmitting on (assuming you are in TR or AA-TR), and the channel 63mhz away == your receive freq. little more complicated than that, but operationally all you need to know is dial in +/- 63 channels. Then just make sure you are both on X or Y.
X is usually for ground based stations, Y is usually for Air-to-Air.
@@Munky332 Hold on, i knew you got ranging but never noticed a bearing. Did they add this?
Weight on ground switches on the undercarriage override the missile arm switch .
If you remember to "fence in/out" you don't have to do master arm on the ground. ;)
If I remember!
@@Dr_Jebus yep, takes remembering to do it on the ground too! Lol!
@@tomaszwota1465 haha, true. I find it easier while engines are spooling, than remembering when focusing on flying the aircraft, getting bogey drops, checking the map etc
Good tips, except number 2 is actually apart of startup procedure... I'm sure some people might've skipped it at some point though.
Very useful, thanks.
Thanks these are a lot of tips I was looking for
I've found as long as I engage the pitch dampner I dont have an issue. So my yaw dampner can stay off giving me that extra roll
nice video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 !
Thank you!
How do you get the SRS overlay to be in that location?
Crtl+shift+esc cycles the overlay display mode by default. One of those let's you click and drag it where you like in a little window, then repeat to reset it to normal.
@@Dr_Jebus
Oh my god I'm an idiot lmao, I always wondered why anyone would want the box around it like that, thanks man
@@Bullet4MyEnemy haha, no worries! Happy flying out there
I am from AF,the pitch got to be planned ahead.
Not sure I understand?
the speed indicator has a problem before.
So, no more F-5 love on your channel?
It's only been a month since my last F5 video. An got another releasing in about a week. Here's the latest oneczcams.com/video/tyrH8dsdT9I/video.html
@@Dr_Jebus Nice!
The single biggest problem with our society today is that the beginners think they have enough expertise to talk.
Rofl. Why thank you very much. Have a wonderful day too
That’s not even close to the biggest problem.
