    What a great solution to toning those golds down that nobody wants anymore. The end result was so much better

    I just did this to my beige travertine backsplash following your directions! So excited! I think I will put a matte poly seal on it because we make a lot of smothies and messy things. Thanks for the tutorial. (I also will need to change my outlets to white.)

    If one wanted less of the old colored tile, then mix in less water I assume? Looking at getting this done, but don't want as much of the prior tile to shine through the white. Thanks.

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi - thanks for your comment! My recommendation would be to do two coats of the wash if you want less of the tile to show. The reason I say this is, using less water will give you more of a “painted” effect. It’s always easier to put on more coats of wash, not as easy if you use too much paint on the first go.

    HI! Thank for this! Do you think this would work for ceramic tile on the floor? I just bought a house and can't afford to replace the whole bathroom floor right now, but it is SO ugly. ha ha.. thoughts? THANK YOU

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 2 lety

      Hi! You could give it a try BUT I would definitely recommend to seal it or add a finish to protect the wash. If you don't I wouldn't trust the paint from wearing off.

    I wish I could do something like that in the shower, we have this type of tile, it’s old and looks nasty no matter how many times i washed it. Complete bathroom reno is quite expensive as well so I’m thinking to do a makeover myself but struggling to find a solution to that type of tile.

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for your comment! You might be able to try fully painting it and then sealing it with a gloss type product? I think you’re right about not white washing this area, not sure it would hold up to all the moisture.

    I just redid my cabinets and my countertops and I need something to do with my backsplash so this is perfect. Did you use paint with primer already in it? And also did you seal it after the fact? And what sheen did your paint have ? Was it semi gloss?

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there! It was just leftover wall paint (no primmer in it), eggshell finish. I did not seal it but I think that would be a great additional step! Good luck with your project!! Thanks for leaving a comment :)

    • @alexandriaparis

      Hi Maria! Definitely not reversible, I would not recommend for rental unless your landlord was on board.

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 2 lety

      Hi Michelle! Honestly I probably wouldn't recommend it. For that type of application I wouldn't add any water, I would just do a light coating of paint and use a product to seal it.

      357vitus I did not seal the tile after my whitewash. I think adding a sealer would work well (I just preferred the more rustic matte look, I also don’t mind a little character through wear and tear).

      @@janesmith3884 Hi Jane! I first completed this process in my bathroom - I used more water to create the whitewash. In the bathroom it is not holding up as well as in my kitchen - where I used a thicker solution with less later. The video is of the kitchen process and is definitely the best way to mix and apply, I would not suggest more water than what I mention in the video!

    Can you use the same technique for slate tiles in the kitchen ?

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 3 lety

      I would imagine you could! It is less porous of a stone so applying it thinner might be a good precaution as it won’t soak up as much wash.

    Love tile idea but how long will this hold up? It's been nearly a year for you so any regrets? How does the tile look now?

    • @alexandriaparis
      @alexandriaparis  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment! It is holding up great in my kitchen (where I used less water and more paint in my mixture). I did a similar wash in my bathroom and used far too much water when I mixed it - it is not holding up as well in this area (I may need to re-do the white washing process).
      So long as you use enough paint it holds up really well, and looks great a year later. I would also recommend some sort of glaze top coat if you really wanted to protect the finish!
