If more production teams just gave their creatives the freedom to make what they want, we'd have more studios like Ghibli. Every animation studio has people working there who really care about their craft, the industry's just set up in a way where all those artists are stuck creating the nose hair details in some designed-by-committee monstrosity.
There probably are loads of studios capable of making a good Clifford movie, but they would never given the freedom to make the style of movie they'd want to.

I think _Paddington_ is one of the few examples of a children's book character who works _excellently_ as a movie. I didn't read the books very much, but I love how they were able to present this friendly, talking bear in an environment where he's entertaining. Sure, Paddington is just your average happy-go-lucky bear with an unusually positive attitude, but the writers were able to make a movie where it worked well. There was an origin story, a general conflict within the film that made sense, an antagonist with a unique motive, and it was actually pretty funny.
I know not everyone was into the _Paddington_ movies, but I thought I'd put my thoughts out there.

They did the same thing with the live action Kim Possible. I don't understand the obsession of taking characters who are designed to be liked by everyone and making them a loser.
It makes the stories even less relatable. I remember in the old cartoon EVERYONE loves Emily-Elizabeth because she was just a nice kid you couldn't help but root for. Maybe times are changing so we're trying to reflect that but it just makes it all feel so dry and lifeless.

I wish this movie took a route more akin to the Curious George movie. The movie gave George a very clear personality despite him not being able to talk. The movie did a good job making the plot feel very personal to George despite having a similar structure to this movie. This is because the the Curious George movie focused primarily on George through out the plot as if he was a character with dialogue, unlike this movie which makes Clifford feel like just a dog and nothing else. This means that the plot of the Clifford movie ends up feeling more like a movie about Elizabeth with Clifford just driving the plot, and to be blunt I care more about Clifford than I do his owner.

I grew up watching the PBS Clifford cartoon as a kid and that has 10x the appeal and charm of this movie with 1000x less budget. It's so annoying when these film executives throw badly CGIed childhood characters in a lazy adventure of the big city with a generic out of place villain then justify it all with "it's just a kid's movie". That's just code these days for "it's a lazy nostalgia cash grab that only kids might enjoy." If Kids' movies were all tired cash grabs, then those people would have a point, but enough have come out to show that there are great kids' movies. It's like when movies force diversity or "women" into a movie and use that as a shield from criticism, when there are great movies about diversity or with strong women leads that don't need that kind of shielding and can literally stand on their own merit as just an amazing film.

The series follows the Howard Family: Nice guy Mark, his wife Caroline, their eight year old daughter Emily Elizabeth, a giant 25 ft red Labradodle Retriever, and the Holland Lop named Daffodil.
Two 15-minute stories made up each half-hour episode. Usually one story featured Clifford and his canine friends, Cleo, a purple poodle, T-Bone, a yellow bulldog, and Machiavelli.
The other story would focus on the future Harem of Birdwell Island, their alpha girl of course is Emily Elizabeth herself, including the snobby Jetta Handover, Vaz the only normal kid, and Charley, the alpha male in the group and Emily’s boyfriend.

This movie, like any other live action adaptation, serves as the corruption of another childhood icon

The makers of this movie also clearly we're ignorant of the existence of Clifford's Puppy Days.

Man that was one of my favorite pbs kids shows when I was little. Then I found out they made a kinda weird looking reboot for some reason after revisiting the channel

I don't think the evil CEO part doesn't work for me anymore because:
    A) It doesn't mesh with what I've associated Clifford with growing up. I'm not saying it can't work but you'd have play it more subtlety or in a manner most subversive.
    B) It almost becomes anti-science in its approach. Like think about it: the corporation could've offered free examinations and accommodations and such while letting Emily keep and live with Clifford. Also implies there's not much else to learn about a giant rouge pupper.
    C)
    Jeff Bezos
    Bobby Kotick
    Gregory J Hayes
Add some names onto the list. I'm done. This trope has lost its campiness.

At least Really Big Movie served as a decent finale to the PBS series, which actually holds up decently for a preschool cartoon. Idk what to say about this movie lol

now that i think about it, how did that guy know that the dog grows from love? the puppy was small before. does it shrink when people hate it enough, or is an absence of love enough?
