The gumball one surprised me. I hadn’t expected them to say the “slap out of it” wasn’t working and then show how you should actually comfort someone in panic. That’s so sweet considering the amount of jokes in the show 😭

I was thinking the same! Arcane portrays anxiety and panic so well. (My immediate thought was the scene where Powder has her breakdown in episode 3. It's so intense and really really shakes you to the core.)

Glad someone finally pointed out the whole “MARIO HAD A PANIC ATTACK” charade. Like yeah, he’s definitely shook up from being smack around by a MAN-SIZED Godzilla, but I wouldn’t say his reaction is all that indicative of a panic attack, more so a quick breather/self-reflection before getting back up again.

Yeah not every distressful experience leads to a panic ir anxiety attack, Mario seemed to be trying to breath through the pain and recover from initial shock and rush of adrenaline before getting up for round two.
I dunno why, but I thought that if Mario did have one, I’d thought he’d drink his worries away, try to fight bowser drunk, and then bowser just incinerates him. (I watched the movie, I know how the film goes.)
Another thing about Riley’s panic attack I noticed while watching Inside Out 2 was that she was using grounding techniques such as feeling the bench she was sitting on and feeling the rays of sun on her face
The fact that the panic attack scene in Velma ranked lower than something that wasn’t even a panic attack in this really goes to show how bad Velma was.
I saw a youtube comment once that says that apparently scrappy doo kills velma, obviously I can't fact check it, but if it is true then that's at least one good thing.

one more thing to add about the last wish, you'd think because of perrito asking puss to rub his stomach it would be played for laughs, but it is played so serious and used actual science of a dog's heartbeat having a calming effect.
I'd also like to add that Perrito doesn't say, "Wow! I guess I really am a therapy dog, huh?!" or something like that. They just let the moment sit, and don't have a lame joke or something.
It's also nice that Perrito is specifically doing DPT (deep pressure therapy) for Puss! And he's the perfect size for it! Perrito is a small dog, so he wouldn't be able to do it for a human, but since Puss is a cat and they're closer in size, it works!
People often confuse the Mario scene for being a depiction of a panic attack. And while I understand the confusion, he’s just scared. And him being extremely afraid only lasts for like, 15 seconds.

What makes Riley's panic attack so well done is how the duality of the movie's perspective helps to enhance it. Because we get to see both the outside and inside of this panic attack, the exterior Riley can show the symptoms while not needing the world around her to show what is going on. The inside of her mind becoming such a warzone does PLENTY to show us just how chaotic a person's mind becomes when an anxiety attack strikes.

Ah yes, the classic scene in Shrek where Fiona and Donkey do the speaking thing and Shrek does the whole misunderstanding thing and gets a panic attack and destroys Farquaad's castle
I loved the way inside out portrayed anxiety and panic attacks. As someone who suffers from severe anxiety the way they showed inside (anxiety losing control, rapidly and blindly slamming buttons, the storm blowing everyone back) vs the outside (Riley staring off into space, taping her foot/fidgeting, and hyperventilating) was incredibly accurate in my opinion. Also the fact that the solution wasn’t just to “be happy” and let joy take over, but to accept her flaws and admit that she needs help sometimes.
That duality was immaculate. I knew that a movie with a format like this would benefit from being able to show what an anxiety attack looms like externally as well as what it FEELS like.
You should have also mentioned the second time Hunter was having a panic attack with Gus. Hunter was spiraling in circles showing that he's still messed up his trip in Belos' mind. Gus immediately proceeded to calm him down utilizing a breathing trick Willow taught him. And after he's calmed down continues to be gentle and patient with him knowing that he's under a lot of stress and is not ready to open up to him. Also bonus negative points at Velma for treating all of her panic attacks as a running gag in season 1.
@@shoopydoopya panic attack that always shook me up was the Basil Fight near the end of omori. Spoilers below Sunny and Basil got into trouble where sunny accidentally killed Mari. Basil had trauma for years until sunny came out of his house. Sunny and his old friends have a sleepover at basils house before sunny moves away. After sunny leaves, Hero will go back to college, Aubrey will bully him, and Kel will keep to himself. He’d have nobody to help him. He has a panic attack in the bathroom and tries to end his own life. Eventually after confrontation sunny tries to prevent Basil from harming himself by getting the knife away from Basil, but he lashes out and cuts Sunny’s eye. You can normally see Sunny’s heart rate in the real world, but the heart monitor is flat except for the words “Everything will be okay” written in cursive. Side note: if you don’t go to the bathroom and help Basil, sunny will go back to sleep and Basil will… you know… and you’ll be locked into the worst ending possible.
As a person who has panic attacks, i do agree with the way Puss in Boots handled it. They gave him someone who would listen and let him know everything would be okay. One of the main things to do it to just listen to the person and show that your there for them, and the creators nailed it!
I haven’t seen the movie but I had to look up that scene after hearing about it. Man they nailed it. It brought me back to some time when I went through something similar, and I think it also involved a therapy dog. Not sure what time it brought me back to, but a time nonetheless.
A lot of animations recently seem to be having characters going through panic attacks and mental health issues. And that’s a good thing. It shows the viewers that they’re not alone and that it’s okay. It makes the shows/movies more relatable and makes you feel bad for the victims. And it makes sense that a movie about emotions would have a character going through one, especially one with Anxiety in it.
I also adore what was mentioned in the video: Anxiety just becoming a whirlwind around the console while simultaneously frozen. When you have a moment like this, you FEEL like everything around you is simultaneously going way too fast and like the moment is frozen forever.

And Anxiety herself in that moment--she doesn't want to cause Riley to suffer, she wants to keep Riley safe and give her a good future, but everything she's done is destroying Riley and she's so desperate to regain control but is only making it worse. The characterization of anxiety as controlling but not ill-intentioned and being, herself, terrified in the midst of a panic attack was just so on-point. Joy struggling to get through to her had me tearing up in the theater.
Just watching the silent snippet in the beginning of Riley having a panic attack was enough to elevate my heart rate and make me tear up, such a realistic scene and one that I've experienced at all the lowest points in my life
Breathing techniques have never worked for me until I tried the finger counting method they used in the show. Literally teaching me coping skills as an adult.
I loved this ranking. Jessie's panic attack from Toy Story is my first memory of one in any story. I would have included the panic attacks from Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World Chaos Theory, it was unexpected to see that on a show about dinosaurs and the animators and voice actors really pulled it off.

I wouldn't say Miles had a panic attack, more like he suffered through sleep paralysis and him having spider powers which gave him greater senses, only made it worse and that of course would give anyone a panic attack.
Riley’s panic attack felt really realistic to how I experienced it that I felt really happy when she got calmed down and collected and over all much better.

Yep. Despite being called adult shows, they can be surprisingly immature sometimes. And we instead get high quality storytelling from “kids” movies and tv shows
i specially think puss in boots handled it so well because when i watched it with my little cousins (10 n 11), they didn't need to know what a panic attack was to know and understand that puss was struggling to keep himself grounded and work through his thoughts. they did a perfect depiction that all audiences could understand and appreciate
And to think that they removed Scooby from the show because they thought having a talking dog would be too “kiddie” and yet the kid’s movie with talking cats, talking dogs, talking wolfs, talking bears, and talking crickets was infinitely more mature.
There's an episode on a show called we bare bears about a koala named nom nom suffering excessive panic attacks because he has so many obsessive fans and one of the 3 protagonists (grizz) becomes nom nom's emotional support pet while avoiding him with his obsessive fans till they get to a vacation spot. Pretty great episode imo
I remember that one scene from the episode where the pilot of the helicopter that was flying them to the vacation house was an obsessive fan who has been collecting nom nom’s nails (literally only remember it due to this comment)
It’s weird that I’m seeing this, because Murder Drones, a CZcams series by Glitch Productions, just had a depiction of a panic attack in their last episode of the series. It wasn’t highlighted, just apart of what happened due to trauma and anxiety kicking in at the moment, rightfully so.

hunter's panic attack is one of the reasons why the owl house is one of my favourite shows. as someone with an anxiety disorder, i can in fact say that it is extremely accurate and overall just a nice little touch of angst to the show :)
Idk if anyone has mentioned this, but I haven’t seen it if so! I wanted to give attention to Arcane and its depiction of a panic attack, in episode 3, we see Powder experiencing one. In which she begins to breathe heavily, saliva builds up in her mouth and even snot runs down from her nose from the amount of crying she’s doing. She begins hitting her head repeatedly and throwing anything she can get her hands on. I think it’s a really great depiction that doesn’t shy away from the ugly parts of panic attacks :))

There was a really good panic attack scene in Dead End Paranormal Park, when one of the characters Norma is opening up about her social anxiety, recounting a situation where she had a panic attack as a child. I found it very accurate, and the whole show was incredible.
Lunella’s panic attack was surprisingly the most relatable one to me altough in the end everything turns red… That scene is exactly what being overstimulated is like for me…

The panic attack scenes from Inside Out 2 and The Last Wish genuinely make me start crying every time I watch them. They're so well done to the point where I feel it in myself and relate to it so badly, and it makes me so happy to see the representation of something I go through almost every day be so normalised, destigmatised, and even done in such a beautiful and creative way in both.
I never knew what it felt like with a panic attack until recently when I had my very first one before going on a trip. It felt like a nightmare but I eventually calmed myself down! Glad media is making stuff like this more understandable! 😁

Watching Riley having an attack nearly brought on mine. The stage production of The Dog In the Night Time does both panic attacks and epileptic fit almost perfectly.
All of Hunters panic attacks were really well depicted. His va did so good too. His felt so realistic I could feel my own anxiety rising. Definitely deserves a higher spot imo

Special shoutout to Demon Slayer. Tanjiro's panic attack in Season 3 over whether to save the villagers or Nezuki was really good. You can see him stress over making the decision, and it ultimately results in him overworking his brain and doing nothing.
Something I really appreciate about the Puss in Boots scene is how there’s only the sound of Puss’ breathing and his heartbeat. I feel like in a lot of scenes where characters are panicking, the visuals and sounds are very overstimulating in order to put the audience in the character’s head, but it always takes me out of the moment a little bit because there’s too much going on. In The Last Wish panic scene, there’s just enough to give the same feeling without being overwhelming. I definitely totally didn’t cry at all when watching it, shh- (Inside Out 2 did an equally amazing job imo! also definitely for sure didn’t cry during that one!! shh!!) Great video overall, love the editing!

I struggled getting through this video because it hits very close to home (anxiety disorder), but I appreciate so much when people spread information about helpful coping methods. I use mantras when I'm on the verge of an anxiety episode without even thinking about it; honestly I don't think it ever occurred to me that it's a coping mechanism until you mentioned it? And despite my initial scepticism about "54321" (a grounding technique), it has legitimately pulled me out of a spiral multiple times over the years.

Puss’s panic attack in the last wish was so realistic it completely caught me off guard, literally had me crying in the theatre. I still cry every time I see that clip because it’s so gut wrenchingly accurate - I respect them so much for giving such a goofy character such serious character exploration
The first time they went over-the-top to the point of absurdity, and the following times it was pretty tame. I can't relate to having a panic or anxiety attack, nor do I remember what the hell happened in any of the Spider-verse films.
one of my favorite media panic attacks is from my little pony, in which starlight is being told that she has to meet up with a childhood friend after trauma related to said friend caused her to freak out and do some things she sincerely regrets and is ashamed of. she starts staring blankly into the middle distance and the words of her mentor fade out as a dial tone fades in slowly. it suddenly cuts as twilight gets her attention again, but me and my twin saw the dial tone as such a realistic way to show the feeling on the inside. its not the most realistic one, but it was a clever use of sound to represent something like that
I'm pretty sure the Miraculous one was Marionette being herself. That means Velma ranks lower than *two* non-panic attacks. Edit: Ok, I get it, that was a legitimate panic attack. I've watched like the first season of Miraculous I don't know about all the new stuff
Not really. She found out that the box containing the Miraculous items had been stolen by Hawk Moth, which put Paris in more danger than ever. This wasn’t just another case of overreacting, she had ample reason to be panicking.
Riley's panic attack actually made me tear up because it was so realistic to me. Seeing Riley in a state like that made me relate - as a 16 year old who struggles with bad anxiety, that film had me on a emotional roller coaster fr.
I have frequent anxiety attacks, just this year I had five, two of which were so severe I couldn't even breathe. It might be a bit silly, but I really like seeing how media portrays these attacks. It makes me feel represented in a way. Thanks for making this video!

In Jurassic World Chaos Theory there's a really well done scene where a character has a panic attack because they just saw their parent (that they had a really bad relationship with) get eaten by dinosaurs 😬but it was so well done, definitely could've made top three imo

Everytime there's a panic attack scene there's jsut a sea of people going "Nobody's ever done that before! 🤯", then praise it for a whole two weeks straight. It's a small thing, even nitpicky, a minor inconvenience, but it really ticks me off when it builds up for that long and is being spammed in every social media till the movie is forgotten. Like ok we get it, it's already been done so many times before can we stop beating the dead horse already?

Glad someone finally pointed out the whole “MARIO HAD A PANIC ATTACK” charade. Like yeah, he’s definitely shook up from being smack around by a MAN-SIZED Godzilla, but I wouldn’t say his reaction is all that indicative of a panic attack, more so a quick breather/self-reflection before getting back up again.
Also looking at your other vids, it would seem as though you are VERY underrated. While I can’t completely remedy that immediately, have a sub for your troubles, and I’m looking forward to what comes next! 🤘

Yeah not every distressful experience leads to a panic ir anxiety attack, Mario seemed to be trying to breath through the pain and recover from initial shock and rush of adrenaline before getting up for round two.
I dunno why, but I thought that if Mario did have one, I’d thought he’d drink his worries away, try to fight bowser drunk, and then bowser just incinerates him. (I watched the movie, I know how the film goes.)

Another thing about Riley’s panic attack I noticed while watching Inside Out 2 was that she was using grounding techniques such as feeling the bench she was sitting on and feeling the rays of sun on her face
Lol yeah, it helps to feel things to ground yourself during a panic attack
Also the tapping of her foot. Whenever I would have a really bad panic attack my legs would jump around uncontrollably so I liked that detail
And the sounds of the puck and skates against the ice. I love how they animated the shots of her hand on the bench and sound of the skates on ice

Honestly i do love hunter’s panic attack. One of the first times we’ve seen him act like a normal child who realises his life is a lie
one more thing to add about the last wish, you'd think because of perrito asking puss to rub his stomach it would be played for laughs, but it is played so serious and used actual science of a dog's heartbeat having a calming effect.

I'd also like to add that Perrito doesn't say, "Wow! I guess I really am a therapy dog, huh?!" or something like that. They just let the moment sit, and don't have a lame joke or something.
It's also nice that Perrito is specifically doing DPT (deep pressure therapy) for Puss! And he's the perfect size for it! Perrito is a small dog, so he wouldn't be able to do it for a human, but since Puss is a cat and they're closer in size, it works!

What makes Riley's panic attack so well done is how the duality of the movie's perspective helps to enhance it. Because we get to see both the outside and inside of this panic attack, the exterior Riley can show the symptoms while not needing the world around her to show what is going on. The inside of her mind becoming such a warzone does PLENTY to show us just how chaotic a person's mind becomes when an anxiety attack strikes.

I loved the way inside out portrayed anxiety and panic attacks. As someone who suffers from severe anxiety the way they showed inside (anxiety losing control, rapidly and blindly slamming buttons, the storm blowing everyone back) vs the outside (Riley staring off into space, taping her foot/fidgeting, and hyperventilating) was incredibly accurate in my opinion. Also the fact that the solution wasn’t just to “be happy” and let joy take over, but to accept her flaws and admit that she needs help sometimes.
That duality was immaculate. I knew that a movie with a format like this would benefit from being able to show what an anxiety attack looms like externally as well as what it FEELS like.

You should have also mentioned the second time Hunter was having a panic attack with Gus. Hunter was spiraling in circles showing that he's still messed up his trip in Belos' mind. Gus immediately proceeded to calm him down utilizing a breathing trick Willow taught him. And after he's calmed down continues to be gentle and patient with him knowing that he's under a lot of stress and is not ready to open up to him.
Also bonus negative points at Velma for treating all of her panic attacks as a running gag in season 1.

Sunny and Basil got into trouble where sunny accidentally killed Mari. Basil had trauma for years until sunny came out of his house. Sunny and his old friends have a sleepover at basils house before sunny moves away. After sunny leaves, Hero will go back to college, Aubrey will bully him, and Kel will keep to himself. He’d have nobody to help him. He has a panic attack in the bathroom and tries to end his own life. Eventually after confrontation sunny tries to prevent Basil from harming himself by getting the knife away from Basil, but he lashes out and cuts Sunny’s eye. You can normally see Sunny’s heart rate in the real world, but the heart monitor is flat except for the words “Everything will be okay” written in cursive.
Side note: if you don’t go to the bathroom and help Basil, sunny will go back to sleep and Basil will… you know… and you’ll be locked into the worst ending possible.

As a person who has panic attacks, i do agree with the way Puss in Boots handled it. They gave him someone who would listen and let him know everything would be okay. One of the main things to do it to just listen to the person and show that your there for them, and the creators nailed it!
I haven’t seen the movie but I had to look up that scene after hearing about it. Man they nailed it. It brought me back to some time when I went through something similar, and I think it also involved a therapy dog. Not sure what time it brought me back to, but a time nonetheless.
A lot of animations recently seem to be having characters going through panic attacks and mental health issues. And that’s a good thing. It shows the viewers that they’re not alone and that it’s okay. It makes the shows/movies more relatable and makes you feel bad for the victims. And it makes sense that a movie about emotions would have a character going through one, especially one with Anxiety in it.

With Riley's panic attack, I could tell that Riley was using a grounding technique to calm down, which I thought was a cool detail.
I also adore what was mentioned in the video: Anxiety just becoming a whirlwind around the console while simultaneously frozen. When you have a moment like this, you FEEL like everything around you is simultaneously going way too fast and like the moment is frozen forever.

And Anxiety herself in that moment--she doesn't want to cause Riley to suffer, she wants to keep Riley safe and give her a good future, but everything she's done is destroying Riley and she's so desperate to regain control but is only making it worse. The characterization of anxiety as controlling but not ill-intentioned and being, herself, terrified in the midst of a panic attack was just so on-point. Joy struggling to get through to her had me tearing up in the theater.
Just watching the silent snippet in the beginning of Riley having a panic attack was enough to elevate my heart rate and make me tear up, such a realistic scene and one that I've experienced at all the lowest points in my life

I would have included the panic attacks from Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World Chaos Theory, it was unexpected to see that on a show about dinosaurs and the animators and voice actors really pulled it off.

Yep. Despite being called adult shows, they can be surprisingly immature sometimes. And we instead get high quality storytelling from “kids” movies and tv shows
i specially think puss in boots handled it so well because when i watched it with my little cousins (10 n 11), they didn't need to know what a panic attack was to know and understand that puss was struggling to keep himself grounded and work through his thoughts. they did a perfect depiction that all audiences could understand and appreciate
And to think that they removed Scooby from the show because they thought having a talking dog would be too “kiddie” and yet the kid’s movie with talking cats, talking dogs, talking wolfs, talking bears, and talking crickets was infinitely more mature.

hunter's panic attack is one of the reasons why the owl house is one of my favourite shows. as someone with an anxiety disorder, i can in fact say that it is extremely accurate and overall just a nice little touch of angst to the show :)

Idk if anyone has mentioned this, but I haven’t seen it if so! I wanted to give attention to Arcane and its depiction of a panic attack, in episode 3, we see Powder experiencing one. In which she begins to breathe heavily, saliva builds up in her mouth and even snot runs down from her nose from the amount of crying she’s doing. She begins hitting her head repeatedly and throwing anything she can get her hands on.
I think it’s a really great depiction that doesn’t shy away from the ugly parts of panic attacks :))

There was a really good panic attack scene in Dead End Paranormal Park, when one of the characters Norma is opening up about her social anxiety, recounting a situation where she had a panic attack as a child. I found it very accurate, and the whole show was incredible.
Lunella’s panic attack was surprisingly the most relatable one to me altough in the end everything turns red… That scene is exactly what being overstimulated is like for me…

The panic attack scenes from Inside Out 2 and The Last Wish genuinely make me start crying every time I watch them. They're so well done to the point where I feel it in myself and relate to it so badly, and it makes me so happy to see the representation of something I go through almost every day be so normalised, destigmatised, and even done in such a beautiful and creative way in both.

The stage production of The Dog In the Night Time does both panic attacks and epileptic fit almost perfectly.

Special shoutout to Demon Slayer. Tanjiro's panic attack in Season 3 over whether to save the villagers or Nezuki was really good. You can see him stress over making the decision, and it ultimately results in him overworking his brain and doing nothing.

Something I really appreciate about the Puss in Boots scene is how there’s only the sound of Puss’ breathing and his heartbeat. I feel like in a lot of scenes where characters are panicking, the visuals and sounds are very overstimulating in order to put the audience in the character’s head, but it always takes me out of the moment a little bit because there’s too much going on. In The Last Wish panic scene, there’s just enough to give the same feeling without being overwhelming. I definitely totally didn’t cry at all when watching it, shh- (Inside Out 2 did an equally amazing job imo! also definitely for sure didn’t cry during that one!! shh!!)

Thank you for including not just the depictions of the panic attacks, but also how they are resolved. I struggled getting through this video because it hits very close to home (anxiety disorder), but I appreciate so much when people spread information about helpful coping methods. I use mantras when I'm on the verge of an anxiety episode without even thinking about it; honestly I don't think it ever occurred to me that it's a coping mechanism until you mentioned it? And despite my initial scepticism about "54321" (a grounding technique), it has legitimately pulled me out of a spiral multiple times over the years.

Puss’s panic attack in the last wish was so realistic it completely caught me off guard, literally had me crying in the theatre. I still cry every time I see that clip because it’s so gut wrenchingly accurate - I respect them so much for giving such a goofy character such serious character exploration

The first time they went over-the-top to the point of absurdity, and the following times it was pretty tame. I can't relate to having a panic or anxiety attack, nor do I remember what the hell happened in any of the Spider-verse films.

Velma jumpscare
one of my favorite media panic attacks is from my little pony, in which starlight is being told that she has to meet up with a childhood friend after trauma related to said friend caused her to freak out and do some things she sincerely regrets and is ashamed of. she starts staring blankly into the middle distance and the words of her mentor fade out as a dial tone fades in slowly. it suddenly cuts as twilight gets her attention again, but me and my twin saw the dial tone as such a realistic way to show the feeling on the inside. its not the most realistic one, but it was a clever use of sound to represent something like that
Personally, Ladybug sticks with me because I used to have these panic attacks when I did something wrong.

Not really. She found out that the box containing the Miraculous items had been stolen by Hawk Moth, which put Paris in more danger than ever. This wasn’t just another case of overreacting, she had ample reason to be panicking.

Riley's panic attack actually made me tear up because it was so realistic to me. Seeing Riley in a state like that made me relate - as a 16 year old who struggles with bad anxiety, that film had me on a emotional roller coaster fr.

I have frequent anxiety attacks, just this year I had five, two of which were so severe I couldn't even breathe.
It might be a bit silly, but I really like seeing how media portrays these attacks. It makes me feel represented in a way. Thanks for making this video!
When I had to get a blood draw, I have to get them annually, I freaked out so I told myself "You got this, everything will be alright" positive self talk helps :)
In Jurassic World Chaos Theory there's a really well done scene where a character has a panic attack because they just saw their parent (that they had a really bad relationship with) get eaten by dinosaurs 😬but it was so well done, definitely could've made top three imo

Okay, but for real though. Just that small clip of the zoom out shot from Paw Patrol with Chase looking downward at the street below triggered my OWN acrophobia. Like, damn, I'm right there with you, Chase. I'd say I wouldn't be caught dead up that high, but that'd be the ONLY way I'd be up there.
maybe im just not looking hard enough but somehow this is the only video ive seen so far thats talked about the inside out 2 panic attack scene lol, ive seriously been hoping people would talk about it ever since i saw the movie in theaters, because it was such an amazing moment and you could really feel the care they had making it

Everytime there's a panic attack scene there's jsut a sea of people going "Nobody's ever done that before! 🤯", then praise it for a whole two weeks straight.
It's a small thing, even nitpicky, a minor inconvenience, but it really ticks me off when it builds up for that long and is being spammed in every social media till the movie is forgotten. Like ok we get it, it's already been done so many times before can we stop beating the dead horse already?

I have experienced anxiety attacks and panic attacks, and I'm actually grateful that some animators and movies depict what an actual attack looks like and how to help with them.
