If you have a high enough speech skill you can skip the test to get in it's gotta be like 70 though
And as some mentioned, the ward lesson is skippable through murder

There's also a bucket in solitude that you can use to fly over obstacles. Just float over the wall and bypass the test.

Actually, if you attack one of the mages in the ward section, you can skip it as the instructor says that it was just an unfortunate accident. Pretty interesting

I remember a video where someone actually used no magic and was able to get over the gate with the flying bucket trick and use items to get around the necessary spell checks

The college of winterhold works better if you think about it like a classical college, that being a place for people with certain interests to freely study in a place with access to useful resources.
In this case, the college of winterhold works as a place for people that already have some magical skill to further practice their talents, and learn from and share with other mages.

Seeing this video after seeing Ymfah's just makes me realize the difference between going in blind and doing your research first.

You can skip the second spell cast by using the shield spellbreaker and the third by using the bloodskall blade from solsteim you can also skip the seventh by just punching the force field

Actually, to skip the second spell, you need to kill another student during the lesson, flee, then come back
@@EighmyLupin Not tracked in the stats menu. You could argue that this is on the same level as staffs, which i say you can go one step further and try a bow and arrow.

He did mention that if you knew how to correctly solve the puzzle to align the lights, you only needed the frost spell. Obviously he didn't know so he had to experiment with both spells.
I've never played Skyrim, but I love watching these challenges.
In the beginning you can just run past the rune, and use a bucket to fly in. You can then attack one of the students to skip the ward section. You can use the skal blade (think that’s what it’s called) to knock down the wall.
The Bloodskal Blade, one of the most unique weapons in the whole game.
There's just something so fun about launching energy waves out of a sword...

You can use a mage follower to adjust the crystal in the dwemer puzzle. You attack them and then they attack you with the spell. You do have to kill them afterwards, but their spells work.
Again with the ice door, and you can use the wisp mother to open the fire door.
You can persuade Faralda with high enough speech and I think there's a part in the main quest line when she can let you through without magic
You can use a speech-check with the gate guarde.
This makes me want to make an enchanter build.
Tolfdir’s entire character is just: “I don’t know!”
You can cut that down to the 2 scripted uses of the staff of magnus. If you're interested check out ymfah's video on no magic mages guild.
Remember, not everyone can be Ymfah.

1st spell avoided by high speech, 2nd by killing a student durring the lesson, 3rd by dlc 2 handed sword that shoots stuff, 4rth by having a follower with frost agro you and hit the puzzle, 5th and 6th the same way. Staff has to be used for the fight.
8:57 in my first playthrough, that forcefield never spawned. I just walked up to Ancano
Ancano is fun. I use the console to strip him naked and then use 'kill' on him every time I walk by. Essentials can take a long time to stand after being hit by it and it's amusing to watch him death crawl around. Oh, and setscale 0.25.
(Maven gets the same treatment)
You can get past casting a ward spell with the shield daedric artifact and get past the amulet puzzle by using the dragonborn dlc weapon that fires a projectile when you power attack and you can get past the dwemor puzzle by using a follower attack your general direction with their frost spell for the 2 doors in the labyrinth you can use a scroll of fire atronach (which you aggro) then use the wisp mother next to the frost door (which uses frost magic)
Winterhold questline is my second fav after the thieves guild. nice video ^^

I haven’t had the opportunity to play other elder scrolls games, but Skyrim’s dark brotherhood is my favorite guild storyline to play through
oblivion dark brotherhood is the best guild.
It's delibearately over-the-top dramatic and campy and I love it

Even better if you beat the mages quest without learning any spells (so go nord as example because they don't start with spells plus they resist the most frequent damage type)

Ill admit, I got a good laugh when read the title of the video because i knew you'd immediately fail. Still you turned it around and did something cool with the challenge.
Also I'm happy to see something other than the main story, doing challenge for the various questlines would be cool.

Actually i've never done the whole mages guild quest line that part where you have to get this little cristall glitched out i had the cristall but the guy behind the door wound't open the door and that's how i never completet the mages guild. My favorite of the guilds is the dark brotherhood.I think you did good on the challenge. 👍

You can actuality skip a lot of that. You can bucket fly over the gate and go directly to the lesson. You can get spellbreaker and not have to use a ward. You can use the boodskal blade from solstheim to break the wall in saarthal, you can aggro the a frost magic using wizard companion to unlock the Dwarven puzzle. You can then use a fire magic wizard companion and also the same frost companion to get them to open the doors in labrynthian. This means that the only time you have to use magic is using the staff at the end of the quest
I really like the thieve’s guild in oblivion. It’s so much better than the Skyrim thieve’s guild because you have to actually try to find it unlike in Skyrim where the dude in Riften is just like “HEY KID WANNA BE A THIEF” like seriously dude
You can also get in through the exit on the bottom. You'll have jump around a bit but you can work your way up the ledge and go through the basement dungeon exit.
My favorite guild questline is probably the Fighter's Guild in Oblivion. My least favorite has to be the Companions; they're just a bunch of thugs pretending to be the good guys.

With enough speech you dont need to take the test at the beginning of the college and also the Shield "Spellbreaker" casts a ward itself which means you dont need to cast a ward spell.

So Goose did it the intended way, but a few notes that will lower the number
1. Speech 70 to talk her down
2. Spellbreaker counts as a ward
3. Bloodskal blade
4/5/6. Followers can take care of these
7/8 are the only required spells.
1. Speech check. 2 shield that gives u a ward 3. Sword that gives u a "spell" while power attacking 4. Force the guy or a mage follower to attack u while u stand next to it. 5 + 6. Same again use a mage follower for it 7+8 well xD... (yes I forgot the Name of 2 and 3 xD)
Dark brotherhood, oblivion, hands down the best faction questline in my opinion

I started playing Oblivion a few days ago, and I'm having a blast with the Dark Brotherhood there. In no other game have I gotten to play the killer in a Clue-style murder mystery before.
You used enchanted weapons. Magic.
The only mandatory spells are casting the Staff of Magnus on the Eye
Faralda's Speech check is insanely high to get into the College without using a spell or Shout. I think it is the only flat out 100 check in the game. 70 with the perk to improve Persuasion, which requires 50 to unlock. Which means even with the perk, you likely need an Amulet of Dibella and a Blessing of Dibella/Gift of Charity.
I love both ymfah's version and this.
This version though is way more like something I could do.
I'm really glad you didn't just do the same thing.
I like the differences shown with how it handles normally without any game breaking glitches (sans the questionable dragon priest fight, no idea how that happened) just to show what is the bare minimum or 'efficient' way (kinda) to do the quest line.
@@jeffreyhoon According to Ymaf, that guy only does magic damage.
To be fair, being archmage doesn't repuire major spellcasting a lot of the time, but rather management and decision making, which you have proven by doing literally everything in this whole questline, so I think it's pretty appropriate to be appointed as archmage. Maybe not as a teacher. It's like "you get a seat in the council, but we do not grant you the rank of master".
But you don't make choices, you're explicitly told what to do every step of the way. All the guilds kinda do this and it makes no sense.
Thieve's guild you can get a necklace that makes you more often than not succeed persuasion

You can skip the first spell with speech or you sneak into the college through the Midden by finding the entrance at he bottom of the Ricky spire of the college
dark brotherhood is always my favourite guild i always make sure to join them :)
You can skip the first spell at the gate using persuasion and you can do the ward class without using a spell by equiping a certain shield with a similar effect.
For the spell doors you can bypass using spells by letting the drauger shoot it with an ice spell and you can wall glitch the other
You can use the Bloodskal blade in Saarthal to open the magic door.

I tried this quest line as a modded ork. I spent EVERY last magic related thing I had to survive this. Don't relies how hard this would be until you realize you only have 40 mana.

Ah the run like hell tactic of assassination.
Granted I am unsure whether magic items, or Daedric Artifacts, would be against the rules of the challenge... but you can use Spell Breaker (or a Shield that creates a 'Ward' when blocking, like the Shield of the Crusader from Creation Club) in place of a Ward Spell for Tolfdir. Just something cool I tried in a playthrough once
Use a tall bucket with a handle to fly over the wall n skip the bridge lady, and theres a sword that will break the wall when you go to the dungeon.
I died at 0:50.

Assassin's Guild from Oblivion, and yes it is because of the murder mystery house mission.
My favorite Guild in skyrim is the Campionans and thieves guild due to the first armor they give you

He was actually very lazy with this challenge. You can get the cast spells all the way down to 1. Only the staff of magnus against the Eye is actually required, the rest can be cheesed.

Persuasion of 100 or 70 with persuasion perk allows you to gain entry, and you can block with spellbreaker instead of casting a ward spell but I guess under your rules that still counts as using magic anyway XD

Dawnbreaker shield can be used and casts a ward, you can use a high speech skill to skip the first test, and you can use shouts for anything else as they don't technically count as magic. You can do it without using magic

You can do it without even a shout. Bloodskal blade, enemy spells, and killing your classmates can all help in making the challenge more legitimate.
Do the dark brotherhood quest line with out killing like someone else can kill a target but you can't also love your videos

My 2 favorite guilds are the Dark brotherhood and the theives guild in almost all the games

U can actually get trough the door by using this one crimson red bloodsword, idk what is was called again but with it u r able to get trough the resonating door

The door in sarthal once you have amulet on you can use a shout to break it. So fire breath works not sure if that count as magic

I think you can use persuasion in the beginning but might actually need 100 speech.
Spellbreaker shield the Bloodskal Blade, if you have the Dragonborn DLC and am at least level 10 in the game, because if you power attack it shoots an Aura. You also could level up Speech to 70 if you feel it is necessary. That would avoid some of the "mandatory spells" to be used. But as for a Vanilla approach with no DLC this is good.
