You are so right! Have a good friend that after the 4th or 5th time of being in my man cave looked up at me after a sip of Russell's Reserve single barrel and said "I finally get it!" That was back in August and he has over 30 bottles now. Has said the chase for different bourbons is nearly as much fun as the flavors. He's constantly sending me pictures over text asking me what I know about this bottle or that bottle. He's hooked! Had a guest ask me the other day how many bottles I had. I guessed around 30,,,, counted 45. And that was 4 days after my first infinity bottle when I poured 6 different into 1.

I've started to really learn about spirits and cocktails in 2020, as the pandemics started. I have been building my minibar ever since, which is slowly turning into a whiskey collection (also thanks to you, guys - thank you for the inspiration!).
I currently have a Buffalo Trace (1L, 45%), Evan Williams single barrel, Woodford Reserve Rye, Templeton 4yo Rye, Teeling Irish (small batch and single grain), Glen Scotia Double Cask single malt and a Finlaggan (Islay peated single malt, only to be used as seasoning in the likes of Penicillin).

I can't argue with any of these selections. Kurt, I applaud you for including OF 1910 as your splurge pick. So sweet and easy-drinking. I have never been able to find Buffalo Trace in my area. I recently found one in the wild, but the store required two other purchases, bringing the total for a 750 ml bottle (plus unwanted additions) to $90. I passed. I'm very happy with both of your picks. You can tell I watch the channel from the result of this though, because I'm fairly new to this ( about 50 bottle collection ) and I have 9 of the 12 bottles you picked in my collection. You really do make good recommendations and I love every single bottle that I have bought as a result of your reviews and input. I have bought many, many bottles blindly and have gotten quite lucky so far, but every bottle I've bought as a result of your reviews/discussion has been a home run for me. I think both lineups are a solid choice to be trusted. I genuinely can't choose a side because both of you had three bottles that are bottles I will NEVER go without ( four roses single barrel, buffalo trace, turkey 101, knob 9, forester 100, New Riff ), but the others that I have tried in this lineup are also fantastic. I wanted to choose a side but man, I don't think you can go wrong either way.
I'm from IN too so the prices are pretty spot on for me. I will say to other IN people though, go to your local Meijer. You'd be amazed at what you can find and even more amazed at the prices you can come by. I got my New Riff Single barrel for about 42$ there, find Trace there all the time, and killer deals on other bottles too. I get Rare Breed at my Meijer for about 48$ because it seems like it's always on sale when it comes in. Their sales vary but man, they have killer deals in there sometimes. Unfortunately most of my local liquor stores are extremely greedy and way, way overcharge on almost everything. So I venture out to places like Meijer or Total Wine who have more competitive pricing.

Fantastic starting collection by you both. I have most every bottle on the bar so it's hard for me to pick a winner. It's really splitting hairs, but OF 1910 and WT 101 are two of my all-time favorites, and the Buffalo Trace is such an easy sipper, so I have to give the slight edge to Kurt. Great job guys.

I love watching your videos and this one was great! We've been building our collection and have almost all these bottles and love them all. Been looking for OGD114 but haven't found it. New Riff just made it to our area and is our next bottle to buy. I would up the budget and get the OF1920. Trenton's list is closer to my tastes. Way to go guys, keep up the great work! We love watching your videos.

I love both of these lineups, really tough to pick. But i would lean more towards Trenton's as the Early Times and New Riff are one of my absolute favorites.

  • @matthewstuteville8321

Nice video, Gentlemen! Both lists are very solid and represent different ends of the spectrum. I think Trenton's list is an excellent compilation of bourbons for someone early in their bourbon journey and Kurt's represents a list for someone who maybe has a few more years of bourbon experiences. My nod goes to Kurt as I think we have similar taste when it comes to bourbons with notes of vanilla and nicely balanced charred oak. All the best to you both and your family in this New Year!

Have to go with Kurt. WT 101, 4 Rose's SiB, BT, and OF 1910 are all some of my favorites. Very well rounded list. Cheers!!!

Good call with the 1910. Gotta have a double oaked somewhere in a beginner collection. Woodford double oaked is a solid option as well.

Alright...new bourbon collector here...I'm a 62 yr old vet...US Navy vet...I've tried Woodford Reserve and 1792...I'm looking at that list...and I like them all...I watch your videos the most...cause I think, the father/son team works...that being said...I'm leaning towards trying four roses, Buffalo Trace side...

This is a great start as whole. Both together and separately. I like bottles from both and that last bottle of Trenton’s is something I haven’t seen before.

First of all, I am a drinker, not a collector. Ten of those bottles have passed thru my bar except the Maker’s Mark and the New Riff. I was able to snag an Early Times just last month. And I would buy each of those 10 again. OF100 would be my current daily drinker but has disappeared from the area. The only change I would make, if it was widely available, would be the Evan Williams Single Barrel in place of the BiB. A good reminder to pick up an OG 114, when I have space available. Great video again!

Between 50ml bottles and actual full-size bottles, this is more-or-less exactly the road I went down given what's available around me. Very solid choices, and it's also nice to know that I'm not the only one suffering price-wise right now. The OF100 price surprised me, it's one of the things I pay very little for in my area.

Great idea for a post and I love watching your content. I think a little combo of both would be nice. I think Larceny, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey 101, Old Grand-Dad 114, Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Forester 1910. A couple that could have fit in there are 1792 and maybe Elijah Craig Small Batch. Here in California, Early Times is never available, New Riff on and off and Makers Cask also infrequent. Buffalo Trace is abundant though. Again thank you for your channel. 👍🥃

Nice video as always guys! You guys have the best whiskey/bourbon youtube channel! I'm going to the Bowman Brothers Distillery tomorrow, so I'm super excited about that. I already have a bottle of John J Bowman single barrel which I really enjoy, so I'm hoping to pick up something else at the Distillery. Hopefully they sell limited runs at the Distillery, but I have no idea?

I’ve just gotten into bourbon again like two or so months ago. Three of your guys picks are already in my selection. Knob Creek, Old Forrester 100 and four roses. Not a single barrel sadly. And I’ve already been wanting to grab some Buffalo trace of course. It’s available in my area but just picked others for the time being. Really wanna try larceny and new riff. But all of your guys choices will definitely be a pick of mine over the next couple months. Love the page and your videos.

Both of you had great choices! I have all 12 bottles and would pick some from both of yours for my list. Early Times BIB, Old Grand Dad 114 and Old Forester from Trenton’s, and Buffalo Trace, Evan Williams BIB and OF 1910 from Kurt’s picks. A few other starter bourbons could be Elijah Craig Small Batch and Old Grand Dad Bonded 100 Proof. Love the channel!

Both excellent picks but I have to go with Trenton. The Old Forester 100 has become a regular in my budding collection and I just tried Early Times for the first time. I saw Bernheim in the comments, that would be a great addition as well as Eagle Rare if you can find it. Love your videos!

I have to go with Kurt. The Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, and Four Roses are a must. And the Old Forester topped it off at the end. I would have to swap the Makers for the Knob Creek as that's my everyday sipper.

I agree with most of your selections. I haven't tried some, so I can't knock them. I have the Buffalo Trace (both the standard bottles and 2 different Store Picks), Old Forester 1910, Makers Mark Cask Strength (Plus the 46 Cask Strength), Wild Turkey 101, Knob Creek (3 different Store Picks), Old Forester 100 and the New Riff Single Barrel (both the standard bottle and 2 Store Picks) in my collection. I love them all.
