  • ☼ Here's another day in the life of a vet student! Today we actually got to go to campus and practice our equine physical exams. This week was pretty draining so I made sure to take some breaks. Just wanted to remind you that breaks are normal and don't feel guilty for taking them! As always, if you have any questions about vet school or the application process, don't hesitate to reach out! Have a wonderful day ☼

    I am a senior in highschool and I have always wanted to be a veterinarian! I thought last year that vet school was going to kill me and there was no way I could do it. But I got my act together and I am currently working on getting hours. I know you need a ton! I love how passionate you are about your profession! You always have a smile on your face! It really inspires me, please continue to make videos! You really help prepare me with what I should expect and what I need to do!

    I’m 14 and I want to be an equine veterinarian someday. :) I’m not experienced with horses (like, at all) so I have been studying the equine anatomy a lot lately. I have trouble grasping hold of the different muscles in a horse, but the parts of the horse’s skeleton is easy for me to understand.

    I watched this video for the first time before I got into Vet school. Now I rewatched being a vet student myself and it definitely makes more sense, ahah!
    I am only at the end of my fifth week for this semester and last week I definitely felt the burn-out you are talking about…Since I take more breaks, more time for myself, cancel any study session planned that feel too much…And I feel better!
    I also took your « one week a day without studying » advice and it is definitely helpful to survive the rest of the week, so thank you!

    Hey Amanda! Ive been watching your videos for quite some time now, Im JUST starting my journey in becoming a vet, First year college student! As ive been watching your videos, ive noticed that most of your time is dedicated to school... is there time for a job while in Vet school?

    • @yourvetamanda
      @yourvetamanda  Před 3 lety +1

      I think it really is personal preference! I count youtube as a part time job, and it's really about making time for it! However, I do have a lot of flexibility since it's my own business. I know some people have jobs throughout vet school, but I would say the majority don't just because it's a really demanding program! Hope this helps 😊

    • @yourvetamanda
      @yourvetamanda  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much!! I make my study guides by going back through my lecture notes and writing down the important concepts and summarizing them in a way I'll understand. I try to keep my study guides between 1 and 2 pages to make sure I'm only writing the important things! I also use Goodnotes on my iPad but you could do the same on paper! Hope that helps 😊

    Love watching your vids! Currently a pre-vet student! I wanted to ask how exactly you study though? You mentioned making those one page study guides for finals. But how do you know all the small details for your midterms? I guess I wonder how you actually take the time to learn and take in all the material in vet school. Thanks!!!

    • @yourvetamanda
      @yourvetamanda  Před 3 lety +2

      So it really depends on the class! For principals of disease, which is the course I was studying for in the video, I actually just went through all my slides and read them over a couple times. Once I did that I went to each lab that was associated with the lecture. Our prof structured the course so our labs were class examples highlighting the concepts of each lecture. After I had read over my notes I went back and did the labs on my own to make sure I understood the concepts! Sorry if that wasn’t super helpful, I have another video on my channel talking about how I studied for anatomy and physiology that might help more :)

    • @shirelly
      @shirelly Před 3 lety

      @@yourvetamanda I would love to see a video on how you studied for each of your classes because just one method doesn't always work for all of them! I love your videos so much!

      I have a video on my channel explaining how I studied for anatomy, physiology and clinical medicine! But I’m planning on filming and updated video for some of the classes I’m taking this year!

    • @OtterMayhem7
      @OtterMayhem7 Před 3 lety

      @@yourvetamanda I would love a video like that as well! I used to make outlines in word to understand the material and then make flash cards in Anki. But it’s taking me SO much time. I recently started using RemNote which turns my notes into flash cards to kind of cut out a step. But I don’t know if flash cards is always the best way to learn, you mentioned going thru & reading a couple times but information never sticks in my head that way unfortunately. In the moment I’m like oh yeah I understand that, then comes test time and I’m like uhhh lol

      For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a vet. I honestly don’t removed if there was something that triggered it because it feels like that’s all I ever told people that I wanted to do when I was growing up! So that’s all I looked into when I was going through my schooling! I never had a plan B really :)

    • @yourvetamanda
      @yourvetamanda  Před 3 lety +2

      You could definitely study for every hour for 24 hours if you wanted to with the amount of content you're given. However, I think it's super important to have a work life balance and I personally make time to enjoy other other hobbies and do things for myself!

    • @yourvetamanda
      @yourvetamanda  Před 3 lety +2

      It all depends on what you're interested in! I personally want to go into small animal just based on what a typical day would look like and what I'm interested in but that may not be the same for everyone!
