I grew up by Rockingham motor speedway in the late 70s and 80s, we would spend all weekend camped out by the track. Partying our asses off, great times great drag racing. 👍👍🏁🏁
I met Ronnie Sox at 75-80 Drag-A-Way. The l’il Boss Barracuda had broken down and he was trying to get it on the trailer by himself. I walked over to help him push it up. He said, “Man, this thing has 6:12 gears in the rear. It’s gonna be tough.” We got the car loaded and to say he was grateful is an understatement. He was a really nice and humble guy. R.I.P.
The Sox & Martin car is a tribute car. No Sox & Martin car EVER had headers that came out through the side of the fenders, these two cars NEVER would have raced against each other. Sox & Martin was a pro stock car and Bob Reed ran in SS/A as it was a super stock race Hemi Barracuda. It was clear that the Barracuda was packing more power than the tribute car as he was closing big time on the other end after it got a head start or jumped the light. Most tribute cars also have a lame automatic transmission in the car because the driver doesn’t know how to use a stick. It’s offensive to people that were around when the real deal cars were racing using 4 speeds and to see someone trying to pass off their somewhat lookalike cars with automatic transmissions is just wrong. Hence the thumbs downs.
@@frankjohnson6342 That's NOT an exhaust exit in the fenders. It's a Keystone sticker. Sox & Martin competed in SS, Pro-stock classes and ran a couple of AFX cars Your ignorance is of titanic proportions. What part of "match-race" do you not comprehend?
Cool deal. Mopars At The Rock was always a cool event. One of the videos I have posted here are from the very first Mopars At The Rock in 1984. The last time I was there was 1996. I just subscribed to your videos.
Lol, Dean Sox running a slushbox in car dressed in the Sox & Martin livery. I guess my Maverick is a Glidden car, lol. I need some Ford motorsports and 7-11 stickers!! At least I run a Lenco.
I don't get it. Did they both screw up staging, or is it a new allowable "psych" game? And it was tough to hear, but was Dean rowing a 4 spd like his Dad, or was it a 727?
Mr 4 speed you say? That was NOT Ronnie Sox driving that car! First of all take a look at the front fenders on the Duster and you can see the headers sticking through the fenders. No Sox & Martin car was EVER built that way, this is a look that started in the last 5-8 years and also popular with the tribute cars like the one in this so called race. This tribute car has an automatic transmission NOT a 4 speed like Bob Reed’s 68 Race HEMI Barracuda that has always run in SS/A. It is a super stock car. Now why would a super stock car race heads up with a so called Pro Stock car? It would be like a pro stock class car doing the same thing against an alcohol funny car, the two cars NEVER would have raced straight up. The track also turned off the timing lights at the end of the track to cover the massive red light by the Duster tribute car, even so the the Barracuda was running him down. Pro stock cars are MUCH quicker and faster than any super stock car. So how was Bob Reed doing this with his super stock car? It’s called a fake race for people that don’t know any better.
this was when I enjoyed watching racing driver and machine not so-called cars computers driver of today this was real as it got cars looked better also
Drag racing is a dying sport in the new millennial age...unfortunately. Go to any automotive swap meet, drag race, or even car show, and most of the participants are grey haired, or balding. It was a culture, or way of life for many of us, in the past. Very slim youth following now-a-days. Too bad, cause if they would just put that stupid phone down, and go out and "do" something, bet they'ld be a lot happier.
This was Mopar's at the Rock, not a big event. Most of the folks were walking around the car show or getting ready for the next round of racing. Also everyone parked in the rear so most were sitting on that side, and not the main stands.
I was at this race. Bob did a set of heads for me. Lived right across the river from us. I miss him. He was hell on a transmission!
Me too!!!
wow, drag racing was great enterfInment for the family back in the Day, people today dont have any idea, where have all the good times gone
Yeah.....ummmmmmmmmm...

SOX AND MARTIN SON!!!!!!! And don't ever bet against them!!!
Far lane won
WE KNEWS THAT A VERY STRONGER MAN DRIVER TO BE NAME IT, MR 4 SPEED, THAT LEAD HIM INTO HALL OF FAME,,,
They would both be disqualified here in Ohio. At KilKare Drag Strip You are not allowed to back up on the Starting Line.
NHRA rules say you can.
Who won??
Far lane
👍🌠💪
F'ing Rockets!
I think the one in the far lane won....
Two ICONS of the sport!!! May they both R.I.P.
RIP
Greatest team ever Sox & Martin
It's a good idea not to let Sox and Martin "Hole shot" you since they are the "Pros from Dover'!
Looks like ticket sales were down that day!
