      What? Look at the 840 horsepower Dodge Hellcat Demon, its a factory race car with turn signals and a horn. Race tires on the back and skinnies on the front and you get to sign an agreement with FCA.

    Sox & Martin were my favorite drag racers in the 60's, loved to see them go against Dyno Don, Jenkins, Motown Missel etc, I guess everybody loves a winner, but I loved their color scheme and car choice. Dyno Don's Maverick was a cool looking car also though.

    I had a 68 340 Formula S. Not a match for this by any stretch but IT DID RUN! I never could get enuf rubber on the road. (Wish Id thot about the weight on the right rear. Doggone!!)
    Best time Aug 1973 Magnolia Ohio 13.95/105.1. Lotta fun. One of 4 I wish I still had.!!

      My 1st car at 16 was a 68 Barracuda 340 S Notch Back. Came factory with 410 Gears.
      That one hooked up. It took a Mustang and a GTO 6 cars out of the hole with bald
      snow tires. No lie. I now have a built 340 68 Barracuda with maybe more power, but my
      1st car would have taken it because of the way it hooked up..

      @@timippolito1182 Let me make a suggestion. Add Cold Air Intake. Cut a hole in the plenum under the right side of the windshield. Beside cooler air you also get a slight pressure increase from the base of the windshield. A trick of Smokey Yunick.
      Some math for you to prove the value. For EVERY 15 deg F above 70F you lose ANOTHER 9-10% of your advertised HP. If your underhood air is 195deg you have lost HALF of the available HP. Also if possible alter the air cleaner intake to be larger. Greater diameter lowers the velocity of the incoming air and also "restriction". I made mine 3" all the way from that hole in the plenum to the Air Clnr.

    Me and my wife went to a Sox and Martin program in Colorado in Colorado Springs, what a great program! Looked at all of the cars they had with them. We have never forgotten this experience. What a great team, and a beautiful Cuda

    Being from N.C. the Greensboro area, I had Butler bros. of Burlington build my 69 Chevy 427, 435hp. Butler bros did the machine work and freshened Sox & Martin's engines way back when. That engine they built for my chevelle pounded the ground @ piedmont dragway back in the 70s. Won a few $s on side bets, at least enough to pay for Butler bros. engine building. That was back when $1,000.00 went a long way. Thoughs were the good ole days.

      Back then a Boss 429 was a good run for mopars 426 Hemi...But then again..A Boss motor is a Hemi too...Bc like a Hemi,it has Hemispeherical combustion chamber.Lol that's a good question to ask these idiots buying and wrecked bone stock hellcats ...What makes a Hemi a Hemi?

      I know this bc Ronnie Sox did my dad's heads on my dad's 70 Hemi Challenger and my uncle Joe had a '69 Boss 429 Mustang..That accumulated a grand total of 1,500 miles bc it was a drag car and then sat in the garage until around 1998 when he sold it to my dad and we completely restored the car on a rotisserie throughout the 2000s.Dad sold the car in 2012 and its in Maryland with a collector. We're from Delaware.Dads Challenger burned down at Cecil County Dragway back in 1978..We put that car back together as well. Its in my garage right now...And it's Plum Crazy with a black top/interior..The car lived its life as an automatic car and when we restored it we pulled the factory numbers matching auto and sent it our for a rebuild but we installed a 4spd and a clutch pedal which can all easily be swapped back out for the original automatic..While this car isn't a concours restoration it is in Very Good condition.I drive it once in a while for a few miles when the weather's nice and the salt has worn off of the roads for the spring through the fall.Its been incredible to have two iconic trademark cars in the family.

    Gotta watch MR 4 SPEED. Awesome original Pro Stock cars and factory race cars. This car is in it. Herb McCandless was Sox/Martin teammate. Drove their 2nd car and was a badass. Definitely worth watching if you're into the old factory racers.

    I live in a small town in Florida near Gainesville and believe it or not two of the 50 Cooters that were modified by Hearst were in this town. One was formally owned by Judy Lilly, and the other one was on originally by Sox Martin. The Sox and Martin one was sold twice the second person that owned thought it was a good thing, a Street Racist car and destroyed it in a wreck. I remember when you open the door on the post where the hinges were there was a sticker that said this car was not intended for highway use.

    I used to watch Ronnie Sox back when this car was new to their team do match races with Landy, Jenkins, Dave Strickler etc, etc. Still my favorite Barracuda body style vs the 70 year change over and still the fastest Super Stick car I saw back then. Ronnie Sox was king of the 4 speeds and shited them with amazing speed

    Saw Ronnie Sox at ATCO New Jersey in 1970. Guy with us announced to come with him and check out the engine because the hood was off. Said it had 16 spark plugs, 16 spark plug wires and 2 distributors. Everyone looked at him like he was crazy.

    I remember seeing match races between Sox & Martin in this car and Bill Grumpy Jenkins in his Red & White '66 Chevy II at Cecil County Race way in Maryland. Small block against big block. They would trade places in the winners circle on a regular bases. David against Goliath. Damn, did Jenkins have that small block screaming. He'd dump the clutch at 8 grand off the line. At the time, besides Smokey Yunick, the best Chevy man in the country

    I owned a 68 340, four speed Electric Blue fastback. It was known to be fast but I had a edge. Radials for when you race on wet streets! The old bias tires sucked. but that was what was available.

    Finally starting to put the Sox & Martin 71 roadrunner together.. my father will be pissed I’m even typing this on here because he’s owned it he car for 50 years an doesn’t really like talking it up about those days out of his circle. He owned the 71 cuda at one time. I’m hoping I can get a buddy to make some videos of the process to upload. The process of rebuilding the motor has begun and it’s going to be fun..

    i remember seeing that car with Ronnie driving it. i was very interested in his starting line prosses. at that time a lot of guys would rev the engine up and down. and the engine would load up. i was in the pit to see how Ronnie did it. he started the engine, brought it to 3,000 rpm. held it at 3,000 rpm rolled around to the starting line, 3,000 rpm. when he was lined up at the starting line he hit the throttle. NEVER ONE TIME reving the engine up and down.

      Moe Shouse I was taught the same type of thing when I was just beginning in drag racing. Every time you touch the pedal, the accelerator pump shoots a shot of fuel down the intake. Now, I didn’t hold 3,000rpm all the way around, but after the burnout, when it was time to clear the motor, bring the revs up and hold it till the engine cleaned up. Words of wisdom from a mentor of mine.👍

    2:23 I dont understand the statement that 4 speed transmissions were not able to keep up with the engines horsepower. I never heard that before If there was ever a trans that could hang its the Chrysler A-833 it is one of the best 4 speeds ever made. Furthermore, By the late 1980's there were still no transmissions that were so superior to anything from the 1960's If anything By the late 1980's the guys coming up in racing were not as good at shifting 4 speeds for competition so many guys were choosing the easier stab and steer combination.

      I think maybe they mean the extra two gears could not keep up with the speed that the engine was pushing the car down the track. Kinda like dragsters using only a two speed tranny, the faster they go the less gears they need, to an extent.

      Ronnie Sox had a crew swapping out transmissions between rounds. Go pound off some 8500rpm shifts in an 833 behind a hemi and you will see why . Lol

      Art Vandelay everyday, and if your 18 spline is holding up fine and you still have third gear behind 800hp ,you aren’t going much further than the school zone and Dairy Queen. Find me a mopar stick car that races rounds in the last 40 years still running 833’s. all went lencos or Jericho’s back then. Those 833’s are great up till 600ish hp and with some tire slip. In a stick car you pick what you want to feed the beast with. Whether it be tires, u joints, or clutches or transmissions. But you need to feed the beast something.
      Ps-I have an 18 spline 833 behind a low deck stroker. I won’t kid myself or anyone else on what it will handle.

    The car has special light weight glass to eliminate 4 and 1/2 pounds of weight to make it faster .......and special lead weights in the trunk that add 125 pounds !!! makes perFUCT sense !!!

    I need to find out what the car sold for. It's sad that cars liked this are priced way beyond what the average person could ever afford to pay. But, one upside to the high collector value, the car will always be taken care of and preserved for generations to come.

      Most builders/owners take a bath on sale of any car.
      Man hours to assemble, test, restore, never get fully factored into price. Fame will get the top dollar.
      In many cases, skilled crafting of a one of a kind, translates into new price of the unmodified car.
      Now add all the custom parts. Buying and driving will bring smiles like nothing else. Cars to men, is like chocolate to women. It feeds our mind.

    Curious .... How much did it sell for please ? As this is my number one drag car of all time . My parents ran the Mopar Muscle Club GB back in the early '80's and Dad drove 2 RHD (South African "Valliant " originals ) 318/727 . Beautiful car , just perfect !

    I had a '68 Barracuda with the factory 383 option. It was just my daily driver. That big block put 60% of the weight on the front wheels. So the handling was terrible for spirited twisty road jaunts, and you couldn't get any traction on the rear wheels for street drag racing either. But I loved that car. I could have moved the batteries to the trunk and done other things, but I wanted it to be easy to live with for daily driving.

      The 383 wasn't that great what was it 335 HP you could get a 396 with one carb that made 425 HP

      @@brettdenisegibbs6533 and so were prostock and top fuel and funny cars all Chrysler powered,and GM had nothing when it came to Nascar,until the Hemi cars were gone.every class from stock all the way up to top fuel was won by a Chrysler powered car at the 1971 winternationals.chrysler dominated drag racing.back in the day of the factory muscle cars.

    Wooo theres alot of blow by in that engine sounds good but you could tell that motor needs to be worked over be it piston rings, valve guilds, etc. alot of blue smoke, blow by, it seems cold but i was not there that day if he had already warmed the engine up or not anyway that engine
    looks like it needs refreshing but sounds unbelieveable............

    Sorry. Engine's WRONG color!! Jake King was a Ford mechanic before he worked for S&M. His motors were for S&M were Ford Blue.
