So, Merkel did agree to Minsk, then said she was never sincere about it, except now maybe she was. So, she was lying about lying? That's reassuring. Glad diplomacy is alive and well in Germany. Back to sleep, everyone!
It's basic knowledge that politicians and state leaders are not always speaking openly about their motivations, what they think or what they really would like to see happening. Often they want to keep several doors open, or put a blur over something they are hoping for ahead.
Alexander's pitch here that Merkel could well have been serious about Minsk when it was worked out, but feigned that it was never serious after the war had escalated in 2022 is something I've been thinking too. In any case, Germany is only half sovereign as a country, its sovereignty has been compromised ever since 1949 and this has become even clearer during the last ten years. It's very hard for any German leader to openly confront Washington and deny them service.

I remember an interview with an old english man where he was asked what was the best moment of his long life. He answered living in London during the Blitz, because it brought together complete strangers from all walks of life in solidarity and love like never before or after.
