I experienced as a teenager the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the fall of the Shah. Back then - 1979 - I already understood that what America does best, is understand herself. And what she does worst, is understand the rest of the world. Iran has been a chain of stupid, ill-advised measures that helped destabilize the Middle East and has fostered both Gulf Wars, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the rise of Al-Qaeda and ISIS and all the misery it has brought to millions of people.
That said, 45 years ago, it has become more than clear that for a superpower pretending to rule over the planet, the US is not equipped to do so. She has become accustomed to fight neo-colonial wars against Grenadian island dwellers, Iraqi and Libyan camel jockeys and Afghan shepherds, but Ukraine has shown that against a full-fledged enemy like Russia, the US is nothing but a paper tiger. The US has made fatal errors that have cost a lot of lives outside America, but most of all, it has destroyed her power base. Now with the US dollar going down as well, the US will become a has-been on the world scene. With all respect to Scott Ritter and his well-placed patriotic sentiments, the fate of his country cannot be altered anymore.

That was intentional. Destabilizing regions means the countries within the region can not develop economically to challenge the US. It also means that nations don't get together to form cooperative groupings that could challenge US geopolitical dominance. It is an evil policy based on the works of Brzezinski and other extremely cynical geopolitical thinkers of the past.
One of Brzezinski's most famous quotes is the following: "it is imperative that no Eurasian challenger emerges, capable of dominating Eurasia and thus also of challenging America". The US devotes a lot of resources into destabilizing Eurasia and sowing division between the nations within. The current war in Ukraine is a perfect example of this strategy at work.

I would describe this situation so, that NATO is a natural reaction to the aggressive and imperialistic behaviour of Russia. Spain, Portugal, France, England and Germany have all been imperialistic countries, but now they are not anymore such. But Russia still is, and in that way Russia is a relict in Europe. But a dangerous relict, which is forcing the European countries to increase their military industy.
During the so called Great Wrath (1714 - 1721) the Russian army occupied whole Finland and killed almost the whole Kaitera family, which owned several farms in Liminka in Western Finland. After this war the Kaitera family had to sell some of their farms, bcause they simply didn't have enough people to run them. So my ancestor Näsi bought one of those farms, and that event changed his family name to Kaitera. Because at that time the farm name determined the family name in Western Finland. And that is the reason, why I got this family name 230 years later, when I was born.
My father's family moved to Viipuri in 1938. During the Winter War (1939 - 1940) they had to move from there, because the Russian army was closing to Viipuri.
My father was an officer in the Finnish army in 1947 - 1963. In early 50'ies he made a deal with a fisherman from Rauma. if the Soviet Union woild have attacked to Finland, my father would have transported my mother and me to Rauma and this fisherman would have taken us to the Swedish coast by his boat. My father would have stayed in Finland and fought against the Red army, but he was not optimistic about the outcome of that war.
So I am certainly not sharing this view of Ritter, when he is describing NATO as the Embodiment of Stupidity. The three Baltic Countries and Finland didn't have other choice than join NATO, when Russia took the path to the bloody imperialism, which this country has chosen also several times earlier. The Russians knew that the attack could happen. Very little would surprise military analyst on all sides. Russia will use the attack to garner more support from their people.
Well, we (also the Russians) have to realise, that the Russian economy is about same size as the ltalian one. So in that area Russia is not a very mighty country. Politically Russia has become more and more isolated. This isolation has been a consequence of the aggressive and imperialistic Russian policy, not a consequence for Russia's neighbours being russophobic. And Russia hasn't shined much in the military area either. After all Russia has tried to subdue Ukraine for more than 800 days and managed to get under control less than 20% of Ukraine. That is not a thing to bragg about. Russia managed to totally destroy Mariupol, Severodonetsk and Bakhmut cities, but that is certainly not enough to win for Russia a place among the superpowers. Scott, these endless wars so that a few are able to amass monetary gains, is unacceptable. For how long will this go on. Is not there any way that this course can be corrected? It is evident that the people enriching themselves are very few. How have things come to pass when so few control the destiny of the multitude? I hope to see a ray of hope soon. I do not think that ray will shine from the West. East, very likely.
America and American’s have never experienced War , real war , fighting an enemy thousands of miles away is very different to having your homes bombed , your cities destroyed , no water no readerly available food and water . Getting by on ounces of food not pounds of meat and butter , unlimited coffee etc .
Europe , the Middle East the UK and a number of Asian countries have all experienced this not once but for some twice .
One would think people would not want this to happen again , but here we go again following the one Country who has never experienced real was at home hundreds of thousands of people dead dieing and maimed . Hundreds of thousands of homes destroyed , don’t they look at the pictures of dead and destruction in Gaza , Ukraine and other areas and think no , no , more . But again Americans have yet to experience real War but are happy to force it on others .
