- In this video, I tell you how a single mod changes Valheim so much that you will want to start a new playthrough using the mod RIGHT NOW...
The mod, ValheimRAFT by Sarcen, allows you to build huge and intricate boat bases that allow ou to adventure and travel without ever needing to go back to your starter base, or any other base really!
The physics of the mod are perfect due to the game's already built in boat-water physics and makes your playthrough that more immersive and enjoyable.
Not only do I explain how the mod works and why it's the BEST mod for Valheim, but I also show you one of the communities best builds using the mod in my opinion - the Njord Ship by ianmcm89. You can download a world with the ship on NexusMods using this link. www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mod...
Thanks Ian for making this and sharing it with the Valheim community! Go like the page and endorse him on Nexus!

If anybody is wondering why the Njord link isn't working on Nexus anymore it's because I moved the files and hid the page to try and shift focus to my new ship build. You can still find the Njord under "old files" on the Havulv Nexus page but I'll just say the Njord is pretty outdated at this point and uses the old valheimRAFT pieces. The Havulv is overall less build pieces and a much more streamlined designed and uses the new sails and ropes so I'd recommend it over the Njord. I'll still thank Jelly for the feature though! Love the cinematic showcase!
Hey!!! This is amazing, so glad you’re still working on making amazing ship builds! Everyone go check out his new build! Dyu have a link to Havulv? :)
@@JellyJamBoyGaming hmm comments with links keep disappearing, not sure if it's CZcams's algorithm deleting them or on a review hold cause of the links. CZcams unfortunately doesn't provide much information :/
@@ianmcmanus9175
It's CZcams, too many spam bots with phishing links, Google went the passive lazy route and just remove any link posted by anyone who isn't the channel hosting the video.
@@ianmcmanus9175 will you be adding them again on the thunderstore as well
Guess I'm lucky I have it on a computer that is offline to stop all updates to the game.
valheim really needs a steamworkshop, just imagine the community servers modded the hell out
Forreal why don’t they?
@@septdre if I had to guess I would say it's not super easy to do add and since they are already slow with updates, I imagine they would rather focus on content than better mod support.
@@Evelaraevia plus a lot of these mods will break if they have another big update. It's likely not worth the headache. Steam workshop would make things way more accessible for the average person (that typcially doesn't know enough about mods or backing up their game) and they'd have a bunch of angry customers when their game doesn't work suddenly
@@user-gj5cx9ik5m it would probably be better to release workshop after they finish all their updates
@@user-gj5cx9ik5m I'm about 99% sure everyone realizes that mods are version dependent.....have been since Minecraft modding got popular like a decade+ ago lol if someone doesn't know that they should stick to console/unmodded games.
A friend of mine made a luxury steamboat with it, complete with the rotor on the back, gambling lounge, observation deck... it was incredible. I made a box.
Box gang represent!
I’ve made some half decent boats but mainly I’ve built floating boxes😂
It's a box that can expand into more boxes and contain all the cool things, so it's a practical box at least!
The "More Defenses" mod works great with this. Complete your boat with cannons or ballistas!
Wow that's incredible! And I won't spoil but there are some useful defenses in the new Mistlands update that may work well on boats too ;)
@@JellyJamBoyGaming What you are referring to, naturally, is putting a bear-trap on the front and ramming things to death! :P
@@tonyh8166 without spoiling too much, the item I’m talking about automatically shoots large projectiles … 😎
@@JellyJamBoyGaming Oh I'm aware of what youre referring to, so I went the silly route instead to avoid spoilers since the beartraps have been in their videos already. :)
Although now I have an urge to actually do the beartrap thing and run around ramming necks! :P
This is amazing! I love the modding community and how creative they are.
Hey thanks Ebon! The modding community is insane and the builders are just as creative! The Njord ship is a work of art!
Valheim is great but the best thing about it is the modding community, very creative people and i hope they stay making great mods for the game to keep it alive for many years because lets face it modders make the game way better than the devs
I hope the devs make this a thing. This is absolutely amazing.
Considering it takes them two years just to put out a single progression tier, good luck with that.
So this video is faked? Its not a thing already?
@@udalix Its not fake, that mod has been around since the game went "early access". Though the original creator recently abandoned it and it was picked up by someone else under a different mod name.
@@udalix its a mod. you can only make prefab ships. There are only 3 boats in the game. Raft, Karve, Longboat.
Only concern with this concept being added into Vanilla is it breaks out of the Viking setting pretty heavily, the longships may seem basic to that massive ship, but in all reality, during the Viking era, long ships were incredible feats of engineering for the time.
Yup this mod plus many others made another playthrough possible. I decided to go with the airship option in the settings menu which makes your base a blimp (more like a flying slab because i'm unimaginative). Both hilarious and terrifying to control at the same time.
Hahaha that is so funny, the flying is absolutely terrifying alright 😂 glad the mod have you another playthrough!
They need to hire this guy for the oceans biome completion update.
... He attached a pre-existing floor build piece to the top of a raft so player structures could snap to that. I mean it's a good idea, but he really didn't do anything except cannibalize the code that already existed. What role would he fulfil within the studio? Executive Copy Paste specialist?
This is without mentioning that the community had to whine at the developer for 2 months before he would even put teleporters in the game and how to game is now is more or less exactly how he envisioned it. The only structures on the map are all tiny little outposts with obvious functions, like Mushroom hut, boar pen, ect. That's how you're "supposed" to play the game.
@@Funsox what sense does it make for something likr a game to have any one "way to play" games are meant to be open to the players playstyle within certain limits
@@ImdaVP I mean, what's the point of not picking the ball up in soccer? What's the point of not running out of the lines in football? I would argue that the rules and limitations are what MAKE it a game. Otherwise just go sit out in a field with a stick. If you don't like the rules of soccer, there are other games like Football and Basketball. There's no point sitting around bitching about the way the game you don't like is fundamentally designed to be played. Just play something else.
@@ImdaVP When this person made this VIDEO GAME, just like when someone made the GAME of soccer, they had certain things in mind that the player would be doing moment to moment. This is called a "Gameplay loop". This mod fundamentally undermines the core gameplay loop of Valheim, which isn't a terrible thing, but it clearly indicated that the mod designer has a different core philosophy from the existing team and would probably be an incompatible match, even if he was an outstanding programmer, which isn't proven by copy pasting existing code.
It's all an extension of the same argument that he shouldn't be given a job based off copy pasting some code. I don't care what cheats you use in your videogame.
@@Funsox though I agree that the core game play loop would be broken, I think adding an option or something similar to it to valheim would be beneficial as the game suffers horribly from "artificial difficulty" due to 90% of it being dragging random materials from far away places back to your main or even secondary bases. The game could use some sort of crafting or atleast repairing station option on boats.
Also I wanted to add that though again I do agree with you that it would break the loop, the way you are saying it to people is rather rude and I think you should relax just a little. They obviously were impressed by the mod and wanted to compliment it no reason to jump down their throats
That ship at the end was incredible! loved the interior
It really is!
I've been on a hiatus from valheim for a year and a half. You have some really good mod videos up within the last 6 months... Between the mistlands update and all these scrumptious mods to try, I am squealing like a schoolgirl in anticipation for diving back into this wonderful Viking world. Keep up the good work!
Dude, this is why I do these videos, so glad this got you all hyped to play! Have fun out there, and don’t forget your shield ;)
Been waiting for this to happen since the start. Awesomely fantastic.
The devs didn't want to allow ores to teleport as they thought it would take away from the sailing aspect.
IMO, this mod is how you actually get people to actually want to sail. The vanilla boats and sailing mechanics are fun, dont get me wrong. But once you have done it a few times, it eventually just becomes the same thing over and over. A mod like this can make sailing a unique adventure every time!
Couldn’t have said it better myself! 🙏🏻
Did a playthrough with this mod a month ago, it's def a top candidate among the mods.
Another favourite for me is the Epic Loot mod.
Epic loot is another must try for sure!!
alternatively to epic loot "jewelcrafting" / cant be run at the same time.
@@zoolkhan great shout!
Awesome mod and great video! Was always a big fan of games like Raft & Ark where customizable boats are a huge part of the adventure, so this looks super appealing! Not to mention it suits a game like Valheim really well!
Thanks man, it’s a great mod right!? I loved Raft so any way I can bring some of those mechanics into Valheim, consider me sold ;)
This is exactly what i used to love about Last Oasis. Having a mobile home and living of it is just a different experience and i hope there will be more game studios working on something similar to this.
This mod is great! Last playthrough we had a flotilla of warships with the more defenses mod. Pulling up to the Plains I felt a little like Cortez.
SO COOL
So if leeches destory the raft everything is gone? And also won't rain destory the wood without roofs?
Great comment. I forgot to mention this in the vid, the mod disables the damaging effect of rain on the boat! Individual build pieces on the boat can be damaged by bigger mobs with AOE attacks like trolls, abominations and loxes but no other mobs cause much damage in my experience! You will need to repair pieces on the boat as time goes on but I found it wasn’t a big deal, and actually makes it even more immersive and fun! There was one time where my boat was too close to the coast and a troll knocked a big hole in it but it was exhilarating, had to get away quick and repair my boat way out at sea! 😂
Quick note for those who don't have the mod yet, and decide to use the Gizmo mod on the ValheimRAFT mod. The pieces are going to go a bit in an incline, making it way harder to make more realistic looking ships like a viking ship.
@@hellyeah2k183 Good to know HellYeah, thanks for letting us know!
@@JellyJamBoyGaming No problem, I hope someone using the concurrent mods has a technique to fix how the pieces go, it would be nice to know.
@@JellyJamBoyGaming what about those big snake thingys in the water?
Would be a great thing also to add more carts for Lox to pull, maybe even a railroad. Just imagine the RR bridges.
first video i've watched of yours and i could literally listen to you describe valheim mods all day
This is lovely to read, thanks so much!!!
Oooo, this looks cool. Good video bro.
This needs to be part of valheim already rather than just a mod
I feel like this would make the game much more enjoyable
Can't wait to try it !
This would make it a pirate simulator, that was never the idea.
Valheim is heading in right direction after seeing mistlands.
The game is so unique and has good personality, one wrong update and game can completely lose it's charm, that's why the devs seem to be really careful with each update because they want to maintain game's current identity.
They should definitely at some point rework boats and ocean experience, but not like this.
@@stargazing209 completely agree, the exact thing that makes valheim progression so rewarding is that it actually makes you prepare and think out before going out to the wild, it makes your base feel like an actual home.
@@stargazing209or it would give people the option of going on 30 day expeditions on the open seas and have a blast .. more options is better
I really hope the DEVs make a vanilla of this.
Ok now I need to try this mod o.O
Beautiful video!!!
Thanks! Go for it!
I remember when I first played back on launch and I thought to myself man this game would be amazing if they made boat customization.
I tried this mod a few months ago and while it is fantastic, one thing that made me stop using it was the anchor system, it seemed very buggy and at points I could not tell whether my boat was anchored or not. Maybe this has been fixed in updates since I last used the mod, but personally I would prefer a visual clue as to whether the ship is anchored, maybe just an anchor icon somewhere.
Great suggestion! This is a quick fix from the mod author, just add a little white anchor icon in the corner of the screen when the anchor is activated! You should shoot the mod author (Sarcen) a message on the mod page on Nexus mods!
I installed this mod back in march for my server and users. I also activated the airship option. Made a few boats that I liked but had problems with them breaking over time. Also built an airship/boat and it was amazing. Ladders to the ground could be a little weird sometimes. Just wish the airship could have gone faster.
Yeah they can be a bit weird in multiplayer! And the ladders are weird for sure!
Looks amazing!
Wouldn't it be neat if there were a sea-based game that's very similar to Valheim, but for Pirates? Start your journey as a naked pirate on a rowboat, and go from there :D
Its reminds me Subnautica 1 ! Same feelings when you dont build the base on the bottom but make submarine as your full time base, its bring so diferent emotions from the game!
I need to try that game, sounds AMAZING especially as I’m a marine biologist by day 🙏🏻
@@JellyJamBoyGaming Cool man, im diver so for me it was mindblowing to play that game. Yeap you should do it, the game is fantastic. And yes, you can build some lockers and over stuff inside the submarine so there is no need to have proper base at the bottom,by that you will get so cool experience!
@@okinava_play no way, you get the fascination so!! 😉
@@JellyJamBoyGaming czcams.com/video/nmLBWmjzk28/video.html my work in Valheim if interested
@@okinava_play wow man, beautiful build, the wood patterns are insane, the wolf building in the back was my favourite and down into the wolf pit, what a nice touch. The fact that the whole thing blends in with mountain is also a great touch, you are a great builder my friend! Keep it up :)
I can imagine being on my raft base, then getting to the Mistlands and suddenly not being able to see would be as sick as it would be terrifying
this is so damn awesome, thanks for bringing attention to this i would have never known about this.
You’re so welcome man!!
Fyi you don't *need* a sail, they're just cosmetic. Unless there's a config setting I've got disabled that I'm not aware of.
Hey thanks for pointing this out, you're right! I still encourage putting a sail on though or else the boat looks kinda weird XD If you're trying to build something other than a boat (or a modern boat), then not needing the sail is a big win!
@@JellyJamBoyGaming btw a cool feature for this mod, you can build a beam off the raft straight up in the air then build off of that beam. Then delete all beams leading up to the air. All free floating pieces will stay in place above the raft (as blue integrity) so you can essentially build UFOs.
@@Advo42069 I’ve seen that before that’s hilarious 😂😂😂 if you go in the config you can enable the boat to fly too, though I haven’t found a real need for a blimp just yet 😂
@@JellyJamBoyGaming I used the flying mode on my last build - an entire castle with courtyard built atop the raft base! Flying castle!
@@OG_Agrivar flying castle that’s so cool!!!
A lot of people have asked similar Q’s about the mod so here’s a quick FAQ:
1. Does this mod still work after the Mistlands update? Yes for solo players, no for multiplayer servers (it never really worked for multiplayer). The mod has been updated to the Mistlands update as of 19th Dec 2022.
2. Does this mod work for multiplayer servers? Not at the moment as far as I know.
3. Does the boat take rain damage? No.
4. Is there a build height limit? No.
4. Can the boat be damaged by mobs? Yes, but the damage is very minimal and I haven’t had any of my custom boats destroyed by mobs after 100s of hours using the mod.
5. Do things fall through the boat when it’s stationary or moving e.g. smelter ingots? No.
6. My spawn point on the boat has disappeared, what do I do? This is a known issue with the mod due to the way the game sets spawn points. A quick fix for this is to link a portal from your boat to a portal at the summon stones, so if you’re bed spawn on the boat is removed due to the boat moving slightly, you’ll still be able to get right back to your boat when you spawn at the summon stones (default spawn location when your bed spawn is wiped).
Aww, no mp compatibility is unfortunate. Hopefully that can be fixed in the future
@@mothos I tried it with my friend (co op) and it worked. They might have fixed it.
How fast does the boat travel? Can you build with faster ships than the raft?
@@Keiuran it’s pretty fast, somewhere in between the longship and the karve, it feels right!
I might have to try this! My playthroughs usually have me building 3-4 story bases where each floor had different functions in production. Normally 20 smelters going, 5 breweries...just a factory. But I'd definitely downsize to try a mobile base.
Now with Hostile Pirates and Vikings, ghost ships and you have a sick metagame
they really need to add steam workshop support to valheim

Right!?
I disagree, its cool and all, but it takes away alot of intended game mechanics, like the need for carts and portals.

This is a game changer for sure. To go a step further though, add hot-air baloon sails, lettuce fly that ship up to the mountains :)
I like it too, the problem is im not very creative, so i dont get anywhere or it looks dumb
My boats look NOTHING like the Njord either, so don't feel too bad! :P There's a few boat builds you can download on Nexus, including the Njord!
@@JellyJamBoyGaming oh cool, ill remember that thanks!
Can we push this to be added in game?
I honestly feel like this would make for an amazing “passive aggressive” leap into the games meaning.
I don’t really use mods but whatever the devs add an this would be a hella cool feature to use.
Honestly man i feel this may be a game feature near the end of development, or worse case the mod will still work by the full release and the game will be more optimised so we can build bigger boats and not have to watch a slide show at the same time 😂 on high graphics with the Njord, the game basically doesn’t work at the moment!
@@EyeXombie don’t get confused with Mojang. They can’t seem to get it right either

I love this mod, you feel like real viking, the raft base is a bit slow driving it can sometime be pain in the ass. I have not played recently with it I'm looking to play around with the mod on the new Mistlands update
Any idea if it's currently compatible with Mistlands? I saw this review a few days ago and want to try it out.
Dude, that looks amazing! Total game changer.

Honestly... I hope build your own raft does come to base valheim. I'm not much of a modder, but this is honestly badass.
This put a huge smile on my face haha def downloading this. How's the speed given that it's a raft ?
Thanks for mentioning this mod. I'll use this as an excuse to start a new (for the time being solo) playthrough
Really glad I got you excited for a new playthrough!
to really get the most out of it, i combined it with other mods. one that always turns the wind where you are driving, and one that turns floor tiles into roof tiles so you can sleep under deck and make a fire and such.
You just gave me a reason to download Valheim again. Thank you!
Thanks!
The funny thing about valheim raft, sails are optional. For transporting tamed animals, my buddies and I just make a literal box with a steering wheel on top
For the very begining of the game , when i was sailing in the second boat, it was overturned during a big storm in the middle of the sea.
And i thought "would like to build my own sails boat ! " i'm expecting something like this mod!
The vessel shown is just outstanding !
Have fun with it bro!
2:25 daaamn that's the Mistlands we should've gotten
Reminds me of when you get the submarine in subnautica and go for like a 20 hour journey into the depths in search of answers...
I can’t wait to try out this mod! One question, though. Do you have to swim to shore, or is there a way to build/attach/tow a smaller boat to use to go ashore?
Well here before you hit 50k subs. This is about to blow up.

So fun!
3:30 "Hey you, you're finally in Valheim!"
😊
This is incredible. The Nord is stunning.
I'm using the same design philosophy for my base without mods. I found a tiny piece of land in the middle of sea, covered everything with workbenches and I don't get raided.
I would love to see you use the Njord I haven’t been able to cause it’s impossible to run the game with it!
Yeah it’s a bit massive right!? I can only play it at low graphics!
Wow this is awesome! I'm definitely going to try this one. The reason I lost interest in the first place was because I just felt like all I did was haul stuff back to my base.
This mod gets rid of that grind! Just bring your base with you and enjoy your entire playthrough!
Unless you have a top of the line computer you're going to get 5 FPS. I found it unplayable.
*Chilling on your boat when suddenly your sail off the end of the world and fall down into the abyss*
Its been more than a year since ive played Valheim but looks like mods are getting better. Plus the new mist land update coming soon too. I gotta play again
The new update is AMAZING.
WE NEED IT FOR REAL
thank you to the author! this is what i was hoping for in vanilla when i first unlocked rafts
Glad I could help you find this! Sarcen did a great job with the mod!
that ship is a legit work of art
Also I will like the option for more build ships and you can take over and edit them the way you want them to be
this with the vr mod would be so fun
There are several versions of this as of the date I post this. The most recently updated one (in May 2024), ValheimRAFT, by Zolantris, is bugged - unless it's having some sort of conflict with the few other mods I was also using at the time I tried it out.
Haven't tried the others but they don't appear to have been updated for quite some time.
I have agreed with this statement ever since it came out. Also, you can make airships now as well.
What is the song at the end when you show the ship ?
OK downloading this now
**Sniff** I'm gonna call him Cyclops
If this is possible, don't stop, bring in the airships baby
The game is amazing to allow that with such a simple tweak
Great stuff, yet how did you *not* show the Njord under weigh?! ...It *does* sail, right?
It does, with much lag. The guy who made this uploaded a streamlined boat that works a lot better, I’ve pinned his comment
Great mod! Super cool video! What about making a video of how Valhalla works in the cloud gaming service? Do you hear something about Boosteroid? They have Valhalla in the games library. Hope you make this video🙏🙏
Thanks man! I’ve never tried out cloud gaming, sounds cool though, I may need to cloud game soon as I’m moving country so this is a great idea for a video if I end up gaming like that!
best thing!
making boat also very constructive just like whole valheim is :)
Ive never played Valheim with mods, but that "no map" mod you speak of sounds quite interesting!
It’s not a mod it’s just a mode! You just type nomap into the console in game and then it disables the map :)
@@JellyJamBoyGaming But how to find bosses then?
That is what i waited for
Hey glad you’re happy with the mod and the video! :)
Amazing! Is the boat as slow as the raft? Cause amazing if speed can be changed
It’s much faster than a standard raft, about as fast as the longboat!
With my luck I feel like I'd run up against a sea serpent which would destroy my floating home in 5 minutes after leaving shore.
As much as I like the idea of being able to build your house boat, part of the draw for me is building cities. I’d like bots but I probably wouldn’t only live on my boat. Plus how do you repair it when you hit a rock?
Wow wow wow!
